Can I put a broadcom crystal hd video decoder on intel atom d410pt board? I use this for occasional net surfing. It does that pretty well staying cool and silent all the time, but it's really incapable of playing any hd content. These days I came to know that broadcom crystal hd decoder can be used with intel pinetrail platforms to facilitate hd viewing.

I have an integrated intel video and latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver(using only stable repo). Now I wanna watch high-res video. From the bits of info collected from all over internet I understood that I need to:
1.aptitude install libdrm libva.
2.compile or find the .deb mplayer-vaapi and install it.
3.add -vo vaapi -va vaapi to the mplayer command line in gnome-mplayer.
My question : is that correct or did I miss something? Do I have to compile latest libdrm and libva or the ones from the squeeze repo will be good? Do I need kms enabled, i.e. install firmware-linux-nonfree?

I have been trying to play a .mov video on the internet, and when the video loads, I get an error that says "search for suitable plugin?.........plugin not found: -text/html decoder" and so i try to open it in movie player, it says its streaming, same thing happens. then I try to play it in vlc media player, and i get no message, it just wont play it. I installed the mediubuntu repository and performed and update and restart, and still it will not play the file. In case you want to try it yourself the address for the video is: [url]
I have all the boxes checked in the updates i.e. important, recommended, pre-released, unsupported etc. I also installed the libdvdreader repository. btw another issue im having is that although installing mediubuntu fixed my poor and choppy dvd playback issue in movieplayer, now it plays, but is very "shaky" basically it looks like they had very unsteady hand while filming. I play it in VLC media player and have zero issues, the picture quality is perfect.

I recently installed openSUSE on a new Toshiba and i'm getting very choppy video while watching videos on ....., justin.tv, etc. The video is fine as long as I don't full screen. However, when I try to fullscreen a stream on justin.tv or a ..... video, it instantly becomes choppy and video is extremely delayed in relation to the sound. The sound still continues at it's regular pace, however the video lags behind and is just choppy in general. Also, not sure if this helps, but i'm running an i3 2310M.

I have finally got both video drivers working. Is it me or is the quality of the Intel drivers almost better than the nvidia? I will try something with hardware acceleration soon but the 2D (compiz etc) all works really well.

I have ubuntu 10.04 on an acer aspire with the Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller. According to glxinfo | grep direct, direct rendering is enabled. I'm trying to watch some anime films in .mkv format. I have tried vlc and the stock ubuntu player. The video is choppy with lag between audio and video. How I can diagnose the problem?

Feel stuck between Debian and BSD worlds - not sure where to turn.
Running GNU/kFreeBSD debian 8.1-1-amd64 and base system working. Can not get X or xrandr to co-operate and use proper resolution of 1680x1050. I believe the basis of this is that it using the VESA drivers and instead should be using the INTEL drivers.
I have no 'pkg_add' for ports, plus obviously no Debian repos will help for this .... unless there are some specific kFreeBSD repos I dont know about? I can post more details on the system, but am hoping that there are other options besides compiling. I can do that if need be, but not even sure which one to use. Will these work on this system? I am trying to watch a movie on tv through an s-video cable, but it's black and white, or with very fade colours. I understood that I have to change output to pal. I also understood that I can do it in the xorg.conf file, but I don't have anything like that.

having not experienced the issues with jaunty and intel display cards, i can't say whether this is a real problem or not. from what i can tell, mtrr is not a problem.
on my new dell mini 10v w/ intel 945gme and a fresh install of karmic unr, video playback performance is only so-so.
most videos-style flash video is decent. local h.264 playback from .m4v and .mov containers is flawless. but streaming flash video originating as h.264 is dismally choppy - this includes vimeo and hulu-quality streaming video.

I am fairly new to Ubuntu, so I'm sorry if I don't include any necessary information. Installed 10.10 rc from CD about 3 days prior to official release and everything was working fine... went about installing software and setting up laptop for use. About one week later, got prompted for upgrade and went ahead through update manager. Now can't enable desktop effects. Right after upgrade had a period where title bars of windows would not display... menus were present, but no title bars, no maximize/minimize/close buttons and no dragging windows to new locations on screen That has since resolved itself. Spent quite awhile searching forums, created xorg.conf at one point, later deleted it.
compiz-check says this:
Code:

I'm running Karmic Koala 64 bit on my Lenovo T400 laptop with switchable graphics having both Intel and ATI video cards. I've set my bios to use the intel card only and turned the automatic switching off. So far so good, but I'd like to turn on compiz for basic window animations. When I try to start compiz by selecting
Code:
"Appearance Preferences" -> "Visual Effects" -> "Normal"
I get an error message saying "Desktop effects cannot be enabled"
Code:
"System" -> "Administration" -> "Hardware Drivers"
doesn't show any new drivers that could be installed. This was working out of the box when I first installed Karmic Koala a few month ago, but things got messed up when I installed the restricted drivers for my ATI card. Now I can enable compiz if I switch to ATI from my bios settings and install the drivers but I don't want to use it due to high power consumption and I've removed the ATI drivers.
Here is my xorg.conf file:
Code:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
EndSection
[code]....

I installed the Fluendo decoder following the tutorial linked to from here (but just downloaded the RPM so I wouldn't have to unpack anything). Now "fluendo-codecs-mp3" is showing up in my software manager as having been installed, but I still can't play MP3 files in either Amarok or Kaffeine. One thing I've noticed is that, in the software manager, under "Installed (Availabled)" it says "11-3" in red. This was such a simple thing to fix in Ubuntu, I'm baffled by how much trouble I'm having right now. Please help me so that I can justify the eight hours I spent downloading openSUSE. I love the interface and would hate to go back to Ubuntu's oranges and browns (and Gnome).

I was able to watch videos that had h.264, but now I can't. when I play the same video from before, it tells me I don't have the codec installed, but when I try to have it installed:
"No packages with the requested plugins found"
is it something I'm missing in the repository?

I tried to install the H.264 decoder and MPEG=4 AAC, by going to Install/Remove software in openSUSE 11.3 and found h264enc - H.264/MPEG-4 Encoder Frontend,I installed it but nothing seemed to happen when it comes to viewing Quicktime movies. I also noticed that when I right-click on the Quicktime screen, it gives me the option to play the video using Banshee. I then launch it and I doeble click on the video that is listed, the banshee logo flashes and nothing happens. Can someone tell me a way to resolve this, is there a way to resolve it.

I have the following situation:
- Intel HD 4600 and 2 Full-HD monitors (Dell IPS, same model)
- left DisplayPort, right DVI
- Debian stretch with Linux 4.4.0-1-amd64
- XServer X11R7.7 and Cinnamon 2.8.7
… and the following problem:
When I restart the system or login after Standby, usually (not always, but often) some strange green and red pixels appear on the monitor which is connected via DVI. I can remove them by changing the display settings and restoring the extended mode again. However, most of the time the XServer crashes by trying to enable or restore the dual monitor mode (although I’m still able to start a new instance of X from another tty). The XServer also crashes every time I try to enable the extended mode from another situation.
I’ve already tried the following:
- connecting both monitors via DP (no pixes, but also crashes)
- swapping the monitors and using different cables, assuming a hardware problem first (no change)
- VGA instead DVI (works, but inelegant).
- blacklisting i915 or using the xforcevesa boot option (neither of them works, i915 starts though)
- using the nomodeset boot option (detects only one monitor and produces a fallback in software rendering mode)

Every time I try to reproduce a MKV file I get the following error:
No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "h264". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
This was working a few days ago with no issues. I think stop working after the last update (not 100% sure). I have tried to uninstall and installed back again, but didn't work.
