Debian Multimedia :: How To Manage KDE Panel / Taskbar

Jan 30, 2016

I tried Google and searching here to no avail...

Running Debian Jessie 8.3
Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64
KDE SC Version 4.14.2 with plasma

I am trying to remove some icons from the "taskbar"/panel and find the only real options are adding MORE widgets, adding another panel, or deleting the whole panel.I simply want to remove a duplicate and re-arrange the icons without having to delete the panel, add another panel, and careful add, in the order I want the icons, the widgets right-click on the panel and I get "Task Manager Settings ALT+D,S" and "Panel Options" which offers no visible means of managing the panel.I condemned to deleting the panel and starting over?

I am using XFCE on Debian Squeeze.

Last night, when I logged in, I only got the desktop with whatever icons I have set on the desktop. The menu bar and the taskbars have disappeared completely.

Is there a way to recover this? Is this a common behaviour? I used to get this problem when I tried out QIMO.

Debian Multimedia :: LXDE Desktop And Taskbar Icon Configuration?

Aug 1, 2011

The first issue is adding launch icons to the task bar. I can add launchers, but cannot figure out how to link them to applications. It is only half a problem, because putting links on the desktop is easy, but I prefer having launchers on the task bar so the desktop is not cluttered. The big problem is placement of desktop icons. I like to put icons on the right side of the screen, and more importantly, I like to group related icons. For example, if I had a folder or document for Linux and another for Debian, I want them grouped together. I also like arranging by category: folders in one column, documents and images in another and launchers (if any) in a third. However, if there is way to enable desktop icons to be moved, I cannot figure it out. Icons are fixed on the left side of the screen with folders first in alphabetical order, then documents/images in alphabetical or numerical order, and launch icons last.My guess is icons can be moved, but I am not computer literate enough to figure it out. It does not make sense that the task bar can be placed on the top, bottom, left or right, but desktop icons cannot be moved. I have tried every preference setting, but there are no relevant options.Am I over-looking something that is not obvious or is it a strange deficiency with LXDE?

General :: Web Panel To Manage Iptables And Tc / Secure Implementation Of Changes

Mar 19, 2010

Subject of my school work:"Web interface for managing firewall and band on the access server (Linux)"I have a big problem because I do not know how to safely implement the change in the system and show the logs on the Web page.Unfortunately, the number of solutions for today is enormous and it is increasingly difficult to me to decide on the right. They are:

1. Launching a web server with root privileges (the default mode of miniserv'a Webmin)
2. CGI scripts on apache SUID (mode webmin on "foreign" server)
3. suPHP or suexec
4. Cron implements changes to the root
5. Daemon in C "periodically" implement changes in the configuration files created by PHP
6. Daemon in C to implement the changes requested in the configuration files created by PHP
7.Use SSH in PHP and after logging into the root of execution of commands in the configuration files created by PHP (the root password in the DB)
8.Use SSH in PHP and after logging into the root of execution of commands in the configuration files created by PHP (the root password, enter manually)
9. Like the above so that the use of sudo and user rights only to the necessary shell commands
10. Add the user apache in the /etc/sudoers can perform all the necessary applications shell commands
11. Seize the opportunity to command: shell_exec ( `sudo php-f / home /example/script.php`), and /etc/sudoers

Debian Multimedia :: Testing/KDE 4 - Wrong Image For Taskbar Icon Shortcut?

Oct 5, 2010

I've got a desktop "konsole" shortcut that works great, it has a "konsole" icon on it that fits well.

I've copied this desktop shortcut to a taskbar shortcut (via drag'n drop).

The result is a usable shortcut, but with a wrong icon image.

I've reproduced the problem three times for different apps and obtained three times the same icon (but the shortcut is however good).

If I open the configuration popup, it displays the correct icon ...

Indeed, I found a way to change the icon : I must modify the icon of the filetype associated with "desktop" filetype ... but after a reboot, all icons will changed Strange isn't it ? have a look of the screenshot

Ubuntu :: Auto Fade And Transparent Taskbar / Panel?

Nov 6, 2010

I recently upgraded to ubuntu 10.10 and went through changing all my settings back to normal, but now when I change the opacity of the panel, it only affects the centre. I want the whole panel to be transparent like it used to be in 9.04. So is there any way to do that? Also, I tried using autohide, but its not responsive enough for me and i couldn't find settings for that either. So what about autofade? I can't find anything on that either. But it would be a great idea. I like my desktop being empty and clean, without the panels, (no im not changing it to the apple dock thing) EXCEPT when I actually want the panels.

Ubuntu :: 11.04 Unity - Manage Workspaces \ Still Miss The Good Visual Feedback And The Single Click Action That The Lower Panel (classic) Desktop Switcher Used?

May 21, 2011

I like 11.04 with Unity however I would like to find a method of managing workspaces with mouse (not keyboard) which gives constant visual feedback and is faster than using the launcher bar, which although not 'slow', takes time to appear and it then takes time to locate the (non movable) desktop switcher item.I happily adopt most of what 11.04 (Unity) offers, however, I really still miss the good visual feedback and the single click action that the lower panel (classic) desktop switcher used. Is there a way of me using some item in unity which is closely similar?

Debian Multimedia :: Gnome Panel Not Resizing ?

Feb 5, 2010

I'm having an issue with Gnome panel, the window list applet isn't resizing to accomodate more windows. I have my panel situated so that the window list applet is on the top left and the menu list applet is in the top right. Instead resizing to be smaller in order to accomodate more windows, the window list applet pushes the menu list applet under it and continues to the right. I recently upgraded to lenny and with I'm assuming Gnome panel 2.20.3. I didn't have this issue before the upgrade. I've looked through and tried the options in the preferences and also a little bit in th config editor but with no luck.

Debian Multimedia :: Clipboard Manager WITHOUT A Panel

May 6, 2011

I would like to know what clipboard managers are out there that are able to run independently of any system tray, or what have you, such as gnome panel. Ideally ones providing full keyboard navigation, that is for calling up the program and selecting from it.

I have tried anamnesis, which can operate as a stand alone program and does appear to offer some keyboard navigation, and whilst it wasnt as attractive or discreet as programs like glipper, parcellite, clipman, etc, i was willing to go with it. However, keyboard navigation is really problematic (maybe to do with how i have set it up, though i doubt it as its installation is so basic), so i have had to abandon it for now.
Am i using it wrong? Anyone else managed to select from it with the keyboard? I think iv googled this to death, but perhaps someone knows of something all the same.

I ask as i am using Openbox and am considering ditching gnome panel, as it is slow loading at boot and wont fully hide (one pixel!). Aside from that a panel icon is unnecessary in my case, as i am more keyboard focused, and it also wastes space that could be better used for the graphical windows list, especially when your rocking a single panel.

Debian Multimedia :: KDE Feature - Can't Move Icons From The Panel

Feb 9, 2011

I'm using squeeze and the xserver-xorg-core, kdebase and kdm packages with their dependencies in addition to the base system installation. I get glitches when I try to drag the icons on the panel: I can't move them properly and occasionally the whole screen gets redrawn (by this I mean it goes black and gets back several seconds later.) and gives an error with signal 11 (segmentation fault). The problem is not specific to my user account, because I tried it with a newly created user, and I didn't do any configuration on mine either. I also experienced other glitches, about which I made some screenshots: [URL]

Debian Multimedia :: 8.1 Cinnamon - Windows And Parts Of Panel Disappear

Sep 2, 2015

I installed a fresh new Jessie (8.1) with the Cinnamon environment a few days a go, and yesterday I started seeing a strange issue seemingly happening at random.

I'm not sure what I do to cause this, but every few hours all the text and some of the icons (launcher, notifications and some applications) on the panel disappear. Most icons in the menu also vanish.

I've just noticed that some windows also disappear, but instead of showing the window behind them, I see my background image (see attached image).

I can't interact with windows which I can't see, but I can move and resize them (they have no border to grab, but alt+middle mouse works).

I can get around the issue by restarting Cinnamon (Alt+F2, r), but that works only part of the time.

Dmesg shows nothing (most recent message was plugging in my mouse & keyboard).

I'm running this on a Lenovo X201 (which uses Intel HD graphics QM57) and an external monitor (dual monitor configuration)...
