Ubuntu :: Taskbar Panel Deleted - How To Get It Back
Apr 19, 2010
I deleted my taskbar panel. How can I get it back? I prefer to use a dock, and so I'm using Cairo-dock, and because of this, I deleted my taskbar panel, and I was just wondering how I would get it back, if I ever wanted to.

I'm new to Linux and Fedora. I installed Fedora a short while ago and inadvertently deleted the top panel that lists the applications, files, etc. How can I get this back? I can't even access the terminal because that was listed under applications.

I was playing around with the default panel that has the power icon (wrong lingo maybe) and the network/sound icons, etc.I deleted some items including the power icon and now for the life of me can't find it in the panel applets list in lubuntu. Is there a way to restore the default panel with the settings as when I first installed lubuntu.I also played with some spacings and other settings so would rather just get it back to normal/restore it vs add all the items back on and then play with the spacings again.

10.04
I managed to delete the Volume Applet that appears by default on the task bar. I'm sure it used to be listed in 'Add to Panel' in other version of Ubuntu however I can't see it there in 10.04.
Can someone explain to me how I get it back?

I recently upgraded to ubuntu 10.10 and went through changing all my settings back to normal, but now when I change the opacity of the panel, it only affects the centre. I want the whole panel to be transparent like it used to be in 9.04. So is there any way to do that? Also, I tried using autohide, but its not responsive enough for me and i couldn't find settings for that either. So what about autofade? I can't find anything on that either. But it would be a great idea. I like my desktop being empty and clean, without the panels, (no im not changing it to the apple dock thing) EXCEPT when I actually want the panels.

I tried Google and searching here to no avail...
Running Debian Jessie 8.3
Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64
KDE SC Version 4.14.2 with plasma
I am trying to remove some icons from the "taskbar"/panel and find the only real options are adding MORE widgets, adding another panel, or deleting the whole panel.I simply want to remove a duplicate and re-arrange the icons without having to delete the panel, add another panel, and careful add, in the order I want the icons, the widgets right-click on the panel and I get "Task Manager Settings ALT+D,S" and "Panel Options" which offers no visible means of managing the panel.I condemned to deleting the panel and starting over?

I'm having some trouble with my Taskbar. It's supossed to flash or blink when I receive a message (I've already configured Pidgin and I've also tried with emesene) but it just doesn't flash. I think it's something related to gnome or ubuntu config so it won't flash under any circumstance but I am not sure.

Before I get into this, here is a pic:
At the top there is a bar that goes all the way across and it will not go away. I can't click on it to remove it. I reset gnome and it still stayed. The weird part is that it only stays on Desktop1 but not on 2,3, and 4. How do I get rid of this because it is annoying?

When I installed 10.04, I got rid of the messenger applet from the panel at the top since I always used webmail. I found a way to have the messenger applet automatically check and display new emails, but now I don't know how to add the applet back. Its icon looked like an envelope. I've tried the add to panel command, but don't see that one listed.

I had to delete all my Windows partitions. I am making new NTFS partitions as I write (thanks to the Live CD). I have not deleted any of the Linux partitions But as a result of the deletion, I cant boot into Ubuntu 10.04. I dont wish to reinstall it because I had lots of packages, settings and scripts in my home directory. I tried getting back on track by using the sudo grub commands, but it could find grub. So I am stuck. Any help, please?

I followed some badly-spelled online instructions to get rid of the last panel (because I'm using Avant Window Navigator instead), which had me do this: Ok some people realize that the gnome panel in ubuntu is very annoying and if your like me you dont want it there anymore, so you wnat to get rid of it (only suggested if you have something like AWN ), ok first push alt+f2, then in that type gconf-editor inside of it. Now in that a box should apear. Click on apps, thenGnome, then session, then required sessions. Then there should be a file called gnome -panel right click it then choose edit, then make it empty. then save it press ctrl+alt+delete, then it should not be there but if it is run killallgnome-panel, and to run it again type in gnome-panel. I did it, and now I cannot startup. ( I just get a 'busy' cursor on a blank screen.)

I didn't delete the whole panel, but just the bit where it shows icons of currently running programs. So now when Ktorrent, Kalarm or Desktop Drapes are running I can't see their icons on the panel and I can't find how to add the thing I've deleted from the "Add to Panel" menu. Anyone know how to get it back?
