Debian Multimedia :: Evolution Not Alerting?

Jun 22, 2010

I use Evolution as my calendar(which syncs with google calendar). It was alerting just fine up until a couple of weeks ago and just realized today that I'm not getting any sort of popup for appointments anymore.

Ubuntu :: Evolution Icon Not Alerting Of New Messages?

Oct 11, 2010

I'd like to have a notification icon popup when a new email message comes in. I find that I need to keep the Evolution window open to see the popup notifier, which kinda defeats the purpose of being notified when you've already opened the program and can see the message right there.

Debian Multimedia :: Evolution Not Logging Into Gmail?

Mar 19, 2015

I have been using Debian for about 2 years now, I have decided to use my email through Evolution (actually both my live and Gmail accounts). Right now my problem lies with Gmail so I will just mention that...

Evolution simply does not accept my gmail password when I log in. I have gone through the whole "Evolution Setup assistance" many times, and whenever the setup is done, and I proceed to open up the program and actually log in to my email> I enter my password and click "ok", and then the same login screen simply flashes and asks me to enter my password again! This is the entire problem. I cannot go beyond the login screen, and evolution simply asks me to enter my password again, and again, while never logging me in. And yes, the password is correct as I use the very same one to log into gmail's web interface several times a day. Imap is also enabled in my gmail account.

I have used Gmail's imap and smtp configuration information from [URL]..... and it simply does not work, even though I put all the information into Evolution Correctly.

Debian Multimedia :: Evolution Crashing On Mail Send

Aug 5, 2015

Evolution keeps crashing everytime I send mail. I am also constantly asked for my keyring or email passwords. I checked the log and found this error message.

"CRITICAL **: mail_session_refresh_cb: assertion 'service != NULL' failed"

This message was in a bug report from 2013 that seems to be closed.: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=730256

My system : Linux version 3.16.0-4-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.8.4 (Debian 4.8.4-1) ) #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt11-1+deb8u2 (2015-07-17)

synaptic package manager says my evolution and keyring are the latest.

I usually run Xfce if that means anything.

Debian Multimedia :: Setting Up Evolution Behind A University Firewall?

Feb 10, 2010

I am behind a university http proxy (squid) server and all of my internet connections have to go through it. I haven't been able to find any setting in Evolution that allows me to specify my proxy settings.

Searching on Google, it suggested that evolution can't work behind proxies and works only with direct connections to the internet.

I wanted to know if there is any way round this problem. I tried posting the same question on gnome list and gnome hacking list and no reply has come so far.

So, possible to disable it without negative effects? If so how to do that? The only problems I've had relating to Gnome have been Evolution. I'll just copy email links and paste them in Gmail.

Debian Multimedia :: Evolution Does Not Connect To Mail POP Server?

Aug 23, 2010

I opened a thread about this issue over two months ago, I opened thread at the Gnome board for the same issue but that board is dead. I never received a reply of any sort. Well Evolution used to work for me but after some updates it stopped working. A few weeks after that another update fixed it then another update came along and of course screwed it all up. Since then I am hoping some new update will fix it but no can do.Since my trouble started Evolution was even updated to a new version 2.30.2. Evolution does not connect to my mail POP server, as a matter of fact "send & receive" and the little icon bottom left on the status bar are grayed out. I have removed gnome and evolution and reinstalled with no results.

I switched to Icedove but when I forward emails Icedove gives me a header that is 10 times longer than the contain of the email itself. I could live with that if I only send emails to family and friends but I also send professional emails. I ended up installing a copy of MS Outlook for now but I really don't like it.

PS: I am sure Ctrl+V doesn't work in gnome-terminal, but rightclick>>paste should work. And in evolution compose box both Ctrl+V and rightclick>>paste should work.

Debian Multimedia :: Evolution Not Deleting An UbuntuOne Address Book

Apr 17, 2011

Previously I was running Ubuntu 10.10. I have since migrated both of my machines to Debian 6.0.1. Before migrating I backed up my previous Evolution configuration, and after installing Debian I restored it from that file. Everything worked great except that backup included my UbuntuOne CouchDB address book, which I never used. When I right click it and click "Delete", nothing happens. I'm guessing the files in .evolution that contain this information are binary because I've done a locate ubuntu and couldn't find anything in there. It's not a deal breaker, but I'd like to get rid of this unused address book from a different OS.

OpenSUSE :: Version Of Evolution - Running The Evolution Mail System Under Fedora - 15 / KDE

Jul 26, 2011

I've been running the Evolution mail system under Fedora-15/KDE for about a month now, and it has some very serious problems. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.

It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution

Debian :: Evolution-mapi Not Available In Squeeze?

But as it's a Windows environment, I'm currently trying to see how Debian could cope with that, meaning how to register to LDAP (I found this: http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/battista/do ... index.html), get mails from MS Exchange, I saw that for other distributions, they were talking about evolution-mapi to achieve the mail retrieval from MS Exchange, but I saw that the package is not part of Debian Squeeze.Did I see correctly (sorry, Debian noob here )?Is there an alternative?

Debian :: Unable To Sign Emails With GPG Through Evolution

Feb 28, 2016

I get the following message when I try to send an e-mail with the option "PGP Sign" in Evolution:

Code: Select allCould not create message.

Because "gpg: skipped "67449612": No secret key gpg: signing failed: No secret key", you may need to select different mail options.

I have "Preferences > Mail Accounts > Edit > Security > OpenPGP key ID " set as 67449612, which is my subkey for signing, and this configuration has worked properly until two days ago when I upgraded a bunch of packages with evolution and gnupg among them. Since I am not sure this is really a bug or what package would it belongs to I am asking here first before submitting any bug.

I believe signing works and the secret subkey is "find-able" because I am actually able to do the following without any errors, and this is why I don't understand the error given by Evolution:

Code: Select all$ gpg --output random.sig --detach-sig random.txt

You need a passphrase to unlock the secret key for
user: "Rock Storm <rockstorm@gmx.com>"
4096-bit RSA key, ID 67449612, created 2016-02-21 (main key ID C96832FD)

$ gpg --verify random.sig random.txt
gpg: Signature made Sun 28 Feb 2016 11:47:47 AM CET using RSA key ID 67449612
gpg: Good signature from "Rock Storm <rockstorm@gmx.com>"

My gpg's keys configuration, notice that the "defaut-key" option in gpg.conf is commented out. This configuration worked for sending signed e-mails at least once before the upgrade.

Code: Select all$ gpg --list-keys rock
pub   4096R/C96832FD 2015-12-13
uid                  Rock Storm <rockstorm@gmx.com>

sub   4096R/67449612 2016-02-21 [expires: 2018-03-12]

[Code] ....

From the bunch of packages upgraded the ones I believe to be related to Evolution were the following:

Code: Select allgnupg:amd64 (1.4.20-3, 1.4.20-4)
evolution-data-server-common:amd64 (3.18.3-1, 3.18.5-1)
evolution-common:amd64 (3.18.3-1, 3.18.5-1)
evolution-data-server:amd64 (3.18.3-1, 3.18.5-1)
evolution-plugins:amd64 (3.18.3-1, 3.18.5-1)
libevolution:amd64 (3.18.3-1, 3.18.5-1)
evolution:amd64 (3.18.3-1, 3.18.5-1)

I searched current known bugs in Evolution and I could not find anyone related to this.

I tried downgrading it to the previous version but I wasn't able to downgrade every package related to Evolution. Curiously the previous version for some of them seems no longer available:

Code: Select all# apt-get -qq update
# apt-get -s install evolution-data-server=3.18.3-1
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Version '3.18.3-1' for 'evolution-data-server' was not found
# apt-cache show evolution-data-server | grep -i version
Version: 3.18.5-1
Version: 3.12.9~git20141128.5242b0-2+deb8u2

Anyway, downgrading only the following four packages did not resolve the issue, and I am still getting the same message in Evolution:

Code: Select allDowngrade: evolution-common:amd64 (3.18.5-1, 3.18.3-1), evolution-plugins:amd64 (3.18.5-1, 3.18.3-1), evolution:amd64 (3.18.5-1, 3.18.3-1) libevolution:amd64 (3.18.5-1, 3.18.3-1)
Current package's state:

Debian :: Evolution Has Become Disfunctional - Won't Auto Download Mail

Mar 15, 2010

I have Evolution mail troubles.

Evolution won't auto download mail and if I do it manually by clicking Send/Recieve it shuts down. When I restart it the new emails appear.

If I go to Edit and click on Preferences Evolution locks up and I must force it to shut down in order to restart it.

Basically it's become next to useless.

I've tried using synaptic to Reinstall and Completely Remove the application however when I reinstall the same problems are there.

Is it possible to re-set it back to defaults? I don't mind if I loose all information as I can back up easily enough.

Debian :: No Auto-complete Of E-mail Address Evolution

Aug 11, 2011

Despite enabling the "auto-complete" to complete an e-mail address from my personal Address-book, it doesn't work. After pressing on the "To"-button, no e-mail address is visible in the list of contacts. That is strange since the contacts are visible within the address book itself. However, when I typed the name of a contact within the "Search"-field of the address book, it also shows no result. Strange... Additional info: two days ago I replaced addressbook.db in Debian manually by the addressbook.db from Ubuntu 11.04 (I'm migrating from Ubuntu 11.04 to Debian Squeeze). It seems that there is no connection between the visible contacts in the address book and the rest of the Evolution. How can I solve it?
