I'd like to have a notification icon popup when a new email message comes in. I find that I need to keep the Evolution window open to see the popup notifier, which kinda defeats the purpose of being notified when you've already opened the program and can see the message right there.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAmongst many other annoyances and problems with my setup, the most major one is as follows:I use evolution on my home computer to manage my email...when i was at my friends house today, i logged in to my mail via godaddys webmail service....after checking my mail and returning home, i notices that some of my new messages that i viewed on the webmail were showing as they should (unread) in evolution...however, a few of the messages were completely absent...i then returned to my account through webmail and sifted through all the emails that were in my inbox(all unread as I havent used the service much as i have always had my computer with me)...i noticed more than a few messages that were there that i didnt receive in my evolution inbox....is that a problem with my email provider through godaddy, or a problem with evolution?evolution often locks up on me and crashes, so i am thinking it might be something to do with it....thinking about switching to thunderbird and hoping for better results, but i am so used to evolution now

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just synchronized my hotmail account with evolution and it works flawlessly, however every time I click send-receive it stars to download mail by mail (more than 10,000, so it takes a while) and it won't check if I got new messages until it is done. The first time it happened I thought it was a normal thing, and that evo won't scan ever again from my hotmail account. Does anyone know how to stop doing that?
I have another brief question, I would like to know if there's a way that when I read a message on evolution it will also mark as read the same message on my hotmail account.
I had been using Evolution with no issues though until I installed Ubuntu 10.04 after which I could no longer send outgoing messages. I use a hotmail live account with Evolution. I have also just installed Evolution 2.30 from 2.28 to see if that would solve the issue, but it did not.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy wife uses Evolution for emailing. I have just set up an new email account for her and the strangest thing is happening. When she sends mail, a copy was going to the old Sent folder for her old account. Fine. So I tried Edit->Preferences->Mail Accounts->Edit->Defaults and pointed the sent mail to the Sent folder in the new account.Now she sends a mail and there is no copy going anywhere! It is not being saved in the old Sent folder or the new.Compaq Presario 610, Maverick 10.04.

Hotmail is my mail service. I've read instructions on how to set up Evolution. I've followed them with no change in results.
I've tried smtp.live.com:587. It was originally set as just smtp.live.com.
SSL is the way it is set but i've tried TLS too. I've seen both suggested.
The authentication is set to "PLAIN" yet when I press send/receive the error message says
"Error while Sending message.
Could not connect to smtp.live.com: Input/output error
POP Before SMTP auth using a non-pop source".
I've tried removing it and reinstalling it. One thing I did notice is that after reinstalling it, the last messages I had tried to send were still showing up. It operated as if I hadn't removed it at all. I did restart the computer between the removal and installation.
On another Evolution mail problem post, a user said that Evolution was a crappy program and people should switch to something else. Do many people think that is true? Does Thunderbird from Firefox work much better?
I'd rather fix it than give up by switching. I really like Mail on Apple computers because I can switch to the "from" tab and highlight numerous messages at one time to move them or delete them. In Evolution I must delete them one at a time.
Does anyone know if it is possible to have a folder/filter that will show unread messages?

I have set up evolution with two POP account and it deleted all my mails from the servers, migrating them on the local machine.
How could I forward all the messages from Evolution to a mail account so I can access them over the Internet?
Forwarding all of them as attachment doesn't, because many of the emails themselves have attachment and it gives an error saying attachment type not supported.
If I try forwarding inline or quoted I have to forward them one by one and there are around 4000.
I built a new PC and copied my old .evolution folder into my home directory which brought back all my mail and filters. I just did a 'check mail' as apparently the auto check wasn't working overnight and it grabbed 85 messages and moved them straight to the Junk folder. I went to Junk, selected all, then did Apply Filters and it did move the messages matching filters to their appropriatelocations. ny ideas on why Junk has become the default location for message delivery and the filters aren't being processed on delivery

I read somewhere that there is a 'leave messages on server' checkbox in Edit>Preferences>Mail Accounts>Edit>Receiving Options but it is not there.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had a problem with my OpenSUSE with Tumbleweed repository enabled that required me to do a hard power off of my ASUS N61JV-X2 notebook PC. I had Evolution running at the time. When I did a cold boot of my laptop and I ran Evolution again, it does not display my e-mail messages anymore. In fact, I had to install Mozilla Thunderbird with the Enigmail extension so that I can read and write e-mail messages.
How do I fix Evolution so that it will retrieve and display my e-mail messages and I can write new ones using this software package?
In the Evolution message list, all messages are shown in bold whether read or unread. I know it's supposed to only show unread messages in bold, but it shows read messages in bold too, so you can't tell between them. The read/unread flag is set properly - you can tell by right-clicking on the message and seeing whether it offers to toggle it to read or unread. But the font remains bold no matter what.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have started using Evolution because I gave up tying to get Thunderbird or Eudora work. I kept getting "unable to locate mail spool file" when trying to receive mail. I was able to import my mailboxes from my Windows Eudora. But in those mailboxes, about half of those emails had the headers but no body text. What is causing this and can it be fixed.
More importantly tho', when I import my contacts from Eudora, they are a mess, and pretty much unusable. I see a series of rectangles with "alias" on top and "real name" underneath and then when I click on it, expanded below is the alias and email address. There are two of these alias/names per rectangle and they scroll across. Any idea how I can fix that other than manually typing in each address.
My Evolution email client is able to send only smal messages. As soon as the email message is more than approx. 20 lines, sending is blocked. The status line displays "Sending message (0% complete)" for a few minutes and then it displays "Error while sending message." Receiving of email messages works fine.
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 with Evolution 2.28.3
Finally I got success in setting up of CDMA USB modem but I could not access the internet or browse the internet. I can only download message and send messages using through evolution. But can browse internet.

For each message, I went to the "Message" tab and clicked on "move to folder." The folder heading on the top left indicates that there are 30 messages in that folder, BUT NO MESSAGES ARE APPEARING.

All went fine, I downloaded all my emails from the last 7 years but then when I actually logged in to my email account on hotmail.com all of my messages were gone and my inbox empty. I was hoping that it would downlaod a copy of my messages - I still want a copy in my hotmail inbox for backup just in case something happens to my computer. Anyway, so my question is there a way to put them back into my hotmail account? I know its not as though I have lost them forever, I just would like the last 7 years of important emails on there in just in case.

I have checked all the folders in evolution and tried showing hidden message (from the view menu) while looking in each folder in case I had managed to do something really weird by mistake, but they appear to have vanished. The message I dragged over to the new folder is however there!
The other weird thing is that the trash folder has randomly partially emptied itself at the same time, and it is not set to empty itself on exiting the program.What have I done and how do I get them back??? I don't care about the trash but need the inbox messages back.
When I print e-mail messages from within evolution the output comes out really ugly. Specifically the letter spacing (kerning) is very uneven with some letters squished together while others are spaced too far apart. This happens for printing to a file as well (PostScript or PDF). Attached is an example (converted to jpg). Has anyone else experienced this? I don't know if this is an issue with evolution itself or perhaps a backend used by it for output.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe short version: I have created a launcher shortcut on my Desktop for Evolution Mail, and right now it uses the springboard icon. I would like to use the icon that I see in the applications menu launcher for Evolution. Where do I find this icon?
The longer version: A few Ubuntu versions ago, I got rid of the Evolution Mail icon from the top panel, as there was no apparent way for me to set mail accounts to other than the standard ports. I went with Thunderbird instead.
Well, while Thunderbird gives me a box to set the port number in, Evolution doesn't, but I can still specify my nonstandard port by placing a : and the port number after: example.com:26 for a mail server at example.com om port 26.
Now, I have put Evolution Mail to use, and have created a desktop launcher for it. For now I am using the default springboard icon. I see the envelope icon in the applications menu for Evolution but I have no idea of the icon's address. I am familiar with Windows XP, and it is easy to assign a program's icon to a new shortcut. I have just added shortcut for example.exe. I go to the shortcut's Properties and click on the icon, and immediately see the program or library file that contains the icon I am currently using, either as an embedded icon or set of icons, or I see an .ico file for that icon. I can navigate to Program Filesexample and see either example.exe with its embedded icons or example.ico.
I created a new shortcut on my Ubuntu Desktop. and was presented with a springboard icon. I click on the icon in the creation process and am presented with a pile of generic icons, much the same as with Windows.
if I open the Properties and click on the icon, I end up looking at a listing in my Home directory. This is regardless of where the current icon is located. I looked in /usr/share/applications/evolution and saw icons folder, but it had no envelope for Evolution Mail. All I see is icons dealing with the calendar, in anything from 16x16 to 48x48 and scalable.
It's a minor problem, but when I run Evolution the "New Mail" button is way bigger than all the other buttons
