Mar 18, 2010I have set up evolution with two POP account and it deleted all my mails from the servers, migrating them on the local machine.
How could I forward all the messages from Evolution to a mail account so I can access them over the Internet?
Forwarding all of them as attachment doesn't, because many of the emails themselves have attachment and it gives an error saying attachment type not supported.
If I try forwarding inline or quoted I have to forward them one by one and there are around 4000.

I have a bunch of debian servers - most of them running exim4 default installations configured as internet site using dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config. It can send mails fine from php scripts and some other applications, but I can't seem to find a way to forward all root mail to some external address. I have tried adding "root: someaddress@example.com" to /etc/aliases and run newaliases command, but it doesn't seem to work.

I still can't find a spot for password. options are, login, set preferences and a remember password checkbox but nowhere to enter a password

Jan 26, 2010I have a "Forward to" filter set up in Evolution. It halfway works. The emails I want forwarded are matched and put in my Outbox. The problem is that the emails are never sent. I have to manually click the "Send / Receive" button. If left alone, the emails will sit there over the weekend, never sending until I hit Send / Receive.

Aug 17, 2010I installed 10.04 on a machine up at work, and grabbed all of the updates. Whenever I when to import the PST file into Evolution, I ran into a problem. In the Import Assistant, the dropdown menu with all of the file types are grayed out, and whenever I select the .PST file to import, the Forward button is grayed out as well. Has anyone come across the problem before? I tried reinstalling Evolution, but that didn't have any effect on it. Still got the same problem.

After that I ran the same command with the verbose option:

For some reason sendmail tried to connect to example.com smtp server and couldn't reach it. I am sure this is because the smtp server for example.com domain is not example.com is mail.example.com. Besides mail.example.com requires authentication, username , password and the smtp port is not the default 25 is 9999. configure sendmail to forward root mail to a smtp server that requires authentication, username, password with a not the default 25 port?

I'm using Evolution 2.30.3, and whenever I open "preferences" the window extends below the bottom of my screen. I'm unable to resize or move the window in order to select any of the options below the bottom.I'm sure there is a simple technique to fix this, but it is beyond this newb.

I try to configure evolution on my opensuse, for using my outlook account. I tryed a lot, and tryed to understand a lot, but all seems to be very diffucult.
What I completely miss on the internet / documentation / everywhere is what to enter where. I can open in my outlook, the account settings. But names there, are not the same names in evolution.
And what to use, mapi, imapi mapi+ whatever. I have no clue about that.
What I found today, is something about proxy. since I was unable to ping a server host with a very strange name. NLCLUEXA11.connect1.local But I also have somewhere a exchange proxy.
Whith a https://www..... url ?? and an NTLM Authentication, no idea about that.
There is also an web interface, webclient, but that also seems to go wrong.
Is there any simple explanation, or just a simple tutorial, which show the outlook settings, and where to put them in the evolution settings ??

Jan 3, 2011im really impressed with the OS so far, exactly what i've been looking for. the install was a little rough, it hung up on "getting the time from the server" for almost 15 minutes even though i was connected to the internet. then for the first few bootups, the ubuntu boot screen was a box that only took up 1/4 of the screen. but that went away. anyway - im in now and its all looking good, but theres a few things i would like to be able to know how to do.
#1 - how do i set up evolution to access my hotmail account?
#2 - just noticed this while uploading an avatar to this site, the box that pops up that lets you browse your files - theres no view change? i have to click each individual picture to see what it is; can this be changed?
#3 - what is currently the best way to get an expose-like feature going in ubuntu?

Jun 16, 2011I have been using evolution for my email for about a year.It currently has 2 accounts set up.I want to create a third account so I went to Edit > Preferences > Accounts > Add.On the first page I click on "forward" and on the second page enter the new details. New name, new email address and when I'm finished I click on forward again and the second screen comes up. It has some server details on it iirc. Sadly after 2 seconds or so this screen disappears and the very first screen re-appears (where the only thing to click on is "forward").What's happening? Is 2 accounts the maximum? Any clues please?

Apr 8, 2010I use evolution 2.26.1 on my jaunty machine. I have a couple of gmail accounts, and use pop3 to have that mail sent to evolution on my computer. All was fine until a few days ago. Then I noticed that I was no longer getting mail from my freecycle account sent to my machine. I went to the gmail web interface and saw that freecycle mail is still being sent to me. But gmail isn't passing it along to my evolution. The odd thing is, other mail from that gmail account *is* reaching evolution okay.

I now find myself very rarely booting into Windows XP, and all the apps I need to use have free replacements.However, after porting about 15-20 years worth of email from Outlook (via Thunderbird) into Evolution, I'm finding Evo's performance has gone down the toilet.It was snappy to start with, but over time has got slower. I regularly get long waits as it displays notes that it is retrieving message number <whatever>.
I'm using POP3/SMTP for most email (I've a low-usage IMAP account with gmx.com too), but it seems like some sort of issue where I'd want to optimise or "defragment" my local mail store.Has anyone any ideas or suggestions on this?My ~/.evolution/mail folder contains about 2.5Gb if that's any help.This is with 9.10 Ubuntu; I have done some basic tuning on the setup, but not a lot.

I just discovered that it's still sitting there unopened but for some reason Evolution doesn't retrieve it.I know it's still there because I can ssh in and run pine -- and there it is, still marked "N" in the INBOX.Evolution has been retrieving all my other emails with no apparent problems. Feb 21, 2011I just set up Ubuntu on a computer for my wife today. My first attempt at a working system rather than just a demo. For certain reasons, afterwards I found it necessary to change passwords in the Evolution account. There does not seem to be an obvious way to do this from within Evolution. A bit of "guru" level advice says that something has to be deleted in some "gnome" directory, presumably on the occult command line level of business - but this was a several-years old msg and perhaps Evolution has "evolved". At my newbie level, I am afraid to do anything like deleting things in directories I don't understand.
Also, is there a way to import mail from Outlook Express .dbx folder files? Wife has thousands of valuable emails on her defunct WinXP computer. Finally, at one point Evolution asks for a "keyring password". Not only do I not know the password, I have never heard of the "keyring". Looking this up with a search engine gives an incomprehensible (to me, a newbie) explanation. Can I ignore this? Is there an explanation of why this heretofore unknown bit of Ubuntu arcana should surface? I thought Ubuntu was the Linux for the "rest of us". Should I just junk Evolution and install Mozilla Thunderbird? If so, is there a way to import the emails my wife has downloaded (733 at last count) from Evolution into Thunderbird?

It used to work just fine but I when I opened Evolution today the following error ocurred: Could not login on server POP3 pop3.live.com. Error when sending username: -ERR command not expected now It then asks me to put my hotmail password... which I do and the same error appears again. Can someone tell me what's going on?

Jul 25, 2010I need to be able to do the following: Physical Router located at 192.168.40.1 On Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid machine:
eth0 with static ip 192.168.40.2
eth1 with static ip 192.168.40.3
eth2 with static ip 192.168.40.4
Associate a virtual address to eth1 with an entirely different network address such as 192.168.50.1 Do the same (virtual address) for eth2 -- e.g. 192.168.60.1 In the application:
register phone number A at 192.168.40.1 (The application will automatically use eth0 for this)
register phone number B at 192.168.50.1
register phone number C at 192.168.60.1
Somehow forward all traffic (including the register request) sent to 192.168.50.1 to 192.168.40.1 as if the register had been made directly to 192.168.40.1. In other words, the app "sends" registration and traffic to 192.168.50.1 but then Ubuntu forwards it to 192.168.40.1 (but the app does not know that). Similarly, forward all traffic sent to 192.168.60.1 to the router at 192.168.40.1.
Do the same for the reverse, forward all traffic that the router sends back to 192.168.40.3 (eth1) to 192.168.50.1 (within the Ubuntu machine) so that the app knows it is for phone B. Similarly forward all traffic that the router sends back to 192.168.40.4 (eth2) to 192.168.60.1 so that the app knows it is for phone C. Thus, the application believes that it is registering at 3 completely separate routers on 3 completely separate networks via 3 separate network interfaces but in fact is really registering all three to the same router (but does not know that). Similarly, the router believes that it is receiving 3 separate registrations because it receives each registration request and traffic from 3 separate interfaces and thus 3 separate mac addresses (i.e., of eth0, eth1, and eth2). Traffic sent to and from the router for each of the 3 phone numbers (via eth0, eth1, and eth2) are not mixed because the translation happens in both directions.

The while loop read the videos url from the urls file and parse them to the wget for dwonlaod, i write the wget for easy of exmple in this code otherwise i use another script to downlaod the embed videos , the code

Debian Configuration :: Setting IPTables Default Forward Policy?
May 3, 2010I'm intending to replace my current router (486DX2 w/16MB running FREESCO which has been faithfully working 24/7 for well over a decade) with a debian box with a bit more grunt and newer features. I'm currently setting up my iptables ruleset and am after a bit of advice re the FORWARD policy. A few example rulesets I have found set the default policy to DROP and the have two lines for each port forward, one to allow the traffic and one to direct the incoming packets to the correct machine.
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth1 -p tcp --dport 25 -j DNAT --to-destination 10.0.100.10:25
iptables -A FORWARD -i eth1 -p tcp --dport 25 -o eth0 -d 10.0.100.10 -m conntrack --ctstate NEW -j ACCEPT
I'm thinking of setting the default policy to ACCEPT to cut down on typing as my default INPUT policy is DROP and unless there is a valid FORWARD rule for a particular port, the packets aren't going anywhere anyway. Or have I misunderstood something. My googling returned heaps of example scripts & not much intelligent commentary. Alternatively, what do you all use to configure & maintain your debian gateways; hand rolled iptables rules, or any toolset recommendations?
