Debian Installation :: Windows Get Stuck On Logo Screen Or Safe Mode Loading Files

Nov 19, 2014

Naturally a Windows user, because all of my computers were with pre-installed Windows and I was young.. and I get used to it..In the time of.. growing up I became programmer and learnt how bad is actually Windows coded. Not only that.. Linux has better support for developers.So.. I was Windows user till yesterday. I finally decided to work on Installing Linux or more specifically - Debian.I love everything part of the GNU - GIMP, GTK+, Gedit, GCC...

Well I can't use my PC, both of my operation systems are non-functional.Windows get stuck (which is something completely typical for Microsoft stuff) on Windows logo screen, or safe mode loading files..Debian installation is messy.Firstly I installed Debian 6.0 on a Virtual DVD Disc mounted. I followed the installation process strictly and move forward to Debian startup. It asked me for account. root as "username" and the password as "password" didn't work so I logged in as "localhost" normal user.

However.. I started to realize that I actually also had to install the Graphical Environment in order to have Debian with the desired GNOME Desktop.. I went to aptitude to install the Graphic Environment Package but it said that I have no root rights.. I tried to log-in again, using the correct details but failed.I tried to get in, using the sudo command, but the sudo command also didn't work. Of course.. since I can't install packages, I can't either install sudo."su -" or "su" also prompt me to select a password which I apparently have no clue of.

Then I went to Debian Recovery, because there I was logged as root. It also pointed out that "Root Account is locked". I went to install packages finally.. But when the installation started to proceed It asked me for disk insertion in a specific folder? There I got lost completely.

Debian Installation :: Jessie Stuck At Loading Initial Ramdisk - UEFI Mode

Oct 2, 2014

So I managed to install Debian Jessie on a MSI G70 2PE Apache Pro that came with Windows 8.

First I partitioned some space on the laptop. Then I put on the net install cd for Debian and installed it on UEFI mode. It installed correctly.

Now I'm on Grub and when Debian tries to boot it gets stuck on "Loading initial ramdisk". The cursor under it doesn't even blink. The only way to get out of there is by Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Secure Boot is turned off. Fast boot is also off. If I try to boot on recovery mode gets stuck all the same.

The options on my grub are

Debian GNU/Linux
Advanced options for Debian GNU/Linux
Windows Boot Manager (UEFI on /dev/sda2)
System Setup.

If I choose the Windows option, Windows boots, no problem.

If I choose the edit option for the Debian entry this is what it shows

Code: Select allload_video
insmod gzio
insmod part_gpt
insmod ext2
set root='hd0,gpt6'
if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then

[Code] ....

What is happening and what should I try to make this work? Could it be a graphics card issue since this computer has a Nvidia Gpu?

I'm kind of new to Ubuntu. Anyways did a fresh install over windows, would crash with this pixilated purple screen. So I tried "safe graphics mode" and it worked. But now that it is installed, how do I get out of it and have it run normally?

Edit: tried to manually install the nvidia drivers, restarted comp and now it wont boot in. Stuck on a black screen and it says "gpu lockup - switching to software fbcon".

Ubuntu Installation :: Stuck At Loading Screen ?

Feb 5, 2010

I'm using ubuntu 9. For some weird reason, sometimes when i log in only the ubuntu logo shows up. It says "Grub loading" and then the logo appears, but the harddrive isn't accessed. After about 2 minutes, the logo disappears and the screen goes blank. I have to shut down the computer manually. The weird thing is, it only happens every so often..about every other boot up.

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 With Blank Screen - No Safe Graphics Mode?

Jul 18, 2010

Ubuntu 10.04 installation takes me to a blank (monitor away) screen. I have followed Google searches and forums and have tried all the nomodreset & radeon.setmode=1 stuff on command line and have failed. If you press F6 on the menu and play with the options you would see that half the options do not work even if you select them. Why even have "nonodreset" as an option when it does not do anything? Did the developers not once wonder that having installation that is not based on grapic driver (that is text based or safe mode based) would be the way to go. Go ahead and Google "Ubuntu installation blank screen" and you will see that this is a pretty massive problem.

Ubuntu Installation :: Windows XP Only Boots In Safe Mode

May 12, 2011

I am not a computer genius. My laptop was notifying me of Windows Genuine Advantage, and I guess I am the last person on earth to know what that is. Now I can only boot in safe mode since it requests activation. There is nothing important on the computer and I only want to use it for watching movies at this time. I want to get rid of Windows altogether, and install Ubuntu. I have downloaded a copy of it and its on my removable drive. I do not have a disc drive on the laptop, only USB. How do I do this? I don't think I have a virtual drive anymore, I think I got rid of the program that was on there.

Ubuntu :: Lost Windows Safe Mode?

Jun 29, 2010

I upgraded my video card today on my dual booting windows 7 ult. x64 machine. I tried to go into safe mode to clean the old drivers out with Driver Sweeper, but when I boot I get a menu asking me which disk I want to boot from (Asus motherboard P5Q <green>) and I have gotten this before and I usuall just hit esc to use default drive and start pressing F8 repeatedly but it just goes to GRUB dual boot menu and there's no safe mode for windows listed. I also tried pressing F5 as that used to be the safe mode command, but it does nothing and goes straight to GRUB.

Ubuntu :: Won't Start - Stuck At Loading Screen

Jan 5, 2011

I simply installed 5 or 6 various packages and shutdown the laptop, later I opened it and turned it on GRUB came up as usual showing the usual options, I selected the option I always pick and Ubuntu came up as usual with the progress bar of 5 or 6 dots that show the typical progress bar but it stays like this forever. I tested it for up to 3 hours it didn't budge.

I tried selecting the recovery option from the GRUB menu and it appears to load normally with a bunch of console output but then halts with the last message displaying:

Code:
cloud-init start-local running Wed, 05 Jan 2011 20:43:44 -0600. up 14.26 seconds
no instance data found in start local init: cloud-init-local main process (357) terminated with status 1

But before the message there was a lot of warnings that appeared to trail off as there were so many, here is an example of one of them as they all appear to be the same just different rule numbers, this is also the last one before the error:

Code:
udevd[353]: SYSFS{}= will be removed in a future udev version, please use ATTR{}= to match the event device, or ATTRS{}= to match a parent device, in /etc/udev/rules.d/99-sbig.rules:59

Ubuntu :: Stuck On Loading Screen After Removing KDE

Jan 18, 2011

I installed KDE but decided to remove it after a while as I wasn't using it and its application were redundant on my Gnome desktop. I followed Psychocats' guide for "pure Ubuntu" but after rebooting, Ubuntu just hangs on the loading screen (or during 'checking battery state'). I tried booting in recovery mode but I'm unable to navigate the menu: when I press a direction key it alternates between the menu and the Ubuntu loading screen. Several other keys do the same thing, while the rest do nothing.

BTW I don't know if this will help but when I restarted it wouldn't work because grub was broken and I booted it 9.10 live CD and reinstalled it.

I'm trying to install Ubuntu on my dv1000 but I can't seem to get past the Ubuntu loading logo. I'm using the same CD that I used when I installed onto my Dell Inspiron 600m and that installation went flawlessly. Right after the Ubuntu loading logo, my screen just goes black and sits there seemingly doing nothing. Does anyone know of compatibility issues with my laptop or is there a workaround to this black screen issue?

That time it works, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the OS. I noticed that when I start up my computer and I have the OS boot list, Ubuntu and Ubuntu safe mode are listed twice. How do I remove the 2nd one, and is it still installed on my other partition even though it said failed?

I didn't mind the safe mode at first but I now realise I cant install any updates which isn't good. I have 222 updates that need installed.

Ubuntu :: System Won't Boot, Can't Find Safe Mode, Can't Launch Recovery Mode

Nov 18, 2010

I attempted to install Catalyst 10.11 for my ATI HD 2600XT and the system now only displays lines and a large block of pixels where the mouse would go. CTRL-ALT-F1 kills the system and does not provide a command prompt. This is a single installation, not dual-boot, but there is no Press Esc to access the Grub menu during startup so I cannot choose safe mode. I attempted to get into Recovery mode using the flash drive that I used to install the system and it tells me there is no Recovery kernel (I used the 64-bit Desktop installer, not alternative). Does anyone know an alternative to get into the Grub menu other than ESC during bootup? Alternatively, do I need to download the 64-bit Alternative ISO and create a new boot disk with it so I can access Recovery mode? Is there something else I'm not thinking of?
