I have finally gotten Samba working! Turns out there was no domain set, even though I remember setting it during the install process...hich brings me to yet another question... Now that I have a mount command that works, how do I insert this such that it is run during the boot process? I want to automount a few Samba shares. Is this a good idea?If not why not? If so, where do I edit to add the mount command?
View 3 RepliesI am kinda new to Linux but because I started a linux-course I decided to install it on my desktop. Before I used Virtual Box or VMware so it was pretty straightforward but now I have a problem with booting into Win7. I decided to install Debian along with my Win7. From a hardware perspective the things are like this, I have 3 HDD, 2 on a RAID0 and the third will be the one with Linux. On the RAID0 matrix I installed Win7 first, all ok there.
Then I started installing Debian. I followed the installation wizard, I partitioned the 3rd HDD and selected it as the drive for Linux. Then after I installed Linux and rebooted I only saw Debian in the GRUBs boot options, no sign of Win7. I think it has to do with the RAID0 matrix which "houses" Win7. I disconnected the 3rd HDD, and now when I try to boot no sign of the Win7 bootloader thou the RAID0 is ok. The only message I get is "insert boot disk".
I would like to insert a line into the /etc/sysconfig/iptables with a command like sed or with any script. How can I insert this line:
-A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT
but under the line "-A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW -m tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT"
Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. I got this error after: Reducing my Windows 7 partition by about 100gb. Creating a new partition (100gb) and copying my Ubuntu partition (10gb) to the new partition. After it was copied, and pasted, the original partition was deleted. I now had two partitions a new 100gb Ubuntu partition and a 600gb (or so) Windows 7 partition.
All of this was done using a bootable USB with Ubuntu 10.10 and GParted partition editor. Now when I boot I get the "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key." error.
Is there a easy program that uses a GUI or am I going to need to do this from the terminal, either way I don't care I just need to be pointed in the right direction. I installed the 7zip package and started using it in the terminal but I can't figure out how to insert a password into my command. 7z x <package> [LOCATION] ?

(using rEFIt) All of them where working. Since I installed Fedora on the 4th partition I can only boot Mac OSX. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having difficulty getting my DeVeDe created iso that I burned to a DVD to play on my Debian box. I have w32codec and libdvdcss2 installed on my Debian Lenny system. I have the Debian-Multimedia repository added to my sources.list file. I've been Googling for an answer since 8:30 a.m. EST and everything says I should be able to install the above codecs and play DVD video.
When I insert the DVD, Mplayer opens up, acts like it starts playing with a (streaming) tag and then clocks to 1 second and goes to "Paused"
I've even tried installing VLC to see if that mattered and it did not.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen entering insert mode in a text file i want to edit while using rxvt-unicode, there is a p being inserted and a whole new line is entered as well. when i hit the insert key, vim enters insert mode but also types a p and forces whatever line i am on down a line. if num lock is not on, it will not enter insert mode by pressing the insert key but if i type using the keyboard and not the number pad, it still enters text. vim/mode keys work normally in xterm. is there some unusual configuration required in order to get vim to behave properly within rxvt-unicode?

I installed openSUSE 11.3 on my iMac along with "Mac Snow Leopard, Windows 7" to make it a "Triple Boot". But after installing the "GRUB/LILO", it does not chain with the boot loader "REFIT" that I use. Each time I try to boot into "Windows/openSUSE", it shows a message: no boot device found, insert boot disc". So why isn't the "GRUB/LILO" working?

That is, I'm in command mode, I issue command INSERT, I type a character, and automatically I'm again in command mode, where INSERT is the command I do not know. I have vimtutor but do not see it explained there.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI bought a t770.uk HP desktop PC, which came without a Hard drive as the pervious owner had removed it for security reasons. A week later I got a hold of a brand new - out of an anti-static sealed bag - compatible Western Digital Caviar SE 80GB SATA150 7200 HDD, and installed it as directed by my t770.uk manual. Up until now, things looked to be on a roll. As I don't have any windows OS, I figured Ubunutu would be the way to go (and it certainly is from what I've heard and read about it. I can't wait!).
So I sent off for a CD and it popped through my mail a few weeks back. The problem that I am having is after booting past a very brief view of the HP POST screen, the screen goes black with the error "Disc boot failure-insert system disk and press enter". I've tried placing the Ubuntu disc in (assuming it is asking for that? An OS disc) and restarting, and changing the boot order around, but no matter what I do the error persists and I can't install Ubuntu. I really want to get this PC running with Ubuntu.
I just got a computer that is about 10 or 11 years old. It is capable of booting from a CD, in which I have burned Ubuntu Minimal Installation onto.

I have mysql installed successfully. I can insert rows into my table using phpMyAdmin. I can successful retrieve those rows in PHP with a select statement. However, I cannot insert or update rows from PHP. I get no error messages and everything appears to be working okay, just no results in mysql table.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Debian testing and after a recent software update, suddenly I can no longer boot into my single Linux kernel image anymore. I did look at the software update before I did it and I don't believe that it removed any software packages. When I try to boot into my linux 2.6.26-1-amd64 image, I get the following message from grub:"error: unknown command `initrd'"..The same error appears if I try to boot into single-user mode. I have a Windows XP partition on the same hard disk and I am still able to boot into that from grub. I've searched the net and haven't really found my same problem replicated anywhere. I would imagine that the problem is just that somehow the initrd package got removed in my last software update, but again I don't recall seeing any software that the update planned to remove.
Any thoughts on how I would go about fixing this problem? Since I'm unable to get into Linux at all, I imagine I'll have to use a LiveCD to get in and fix the problem, but I don't know where to begin looking.
I installed Debian lenny 5.04 today through netinstall. After install it refuses to boot and says, "No bootable device found - "insert and press any key".

I have googled it around and it seems to be something to do with BIOS. I am sure harddisk is not fried. Because I installed Ubuntu and it works
Out of curiosity and stupidity, I configured 2 extended partitions to LVM in gparted. Now, I can't boot into X window, and there's only GRUB command line during boot.
