Hardware :: Win7 And Debian - Insert Boot Disk Message

Jan 27, 2010

I am kinda new to Linux but because I started a linux-course I decided to install it on my desktop. Before I used Virtual Box or VMware so it was pretty straightforward but now I have a problem with booting into Win7. I decided to install Debian along with my Win7. From a hardware perspective the things are like this, I have 3 HDD, 2 on a RAID0 and the third will be the one with Linux. On the RAID0 matrix I installed Win7 first, all ok there.

Then I started installing Debian. I followed the installation wizard, I partitioned the 3rd HDD and selected it as the drive for Linux. Then after I installed Linux and rebooted I only saw Debian in the GRUBs boot options, no sign of Win7. I think it has to do with the RAID0 matrix which "houses" Win7. I disconnected the 3rd HDD, and now when I try to boot no sign of the Win7 bootloader thou the RAID0 is ok. The only message I get is "insert boot disk".

Ubuntu :: Boot Failure - Insert System Disk And Press Enter

Aug 18, 2010

I'm trying to do exactly this: [URL] the first time i did it, I made it and everything was fine, except I didn't know what "installation size" meant in wubi, so as I selected 3GB, the rest of the partition was left empty and I didn't have enough space for ubuntu. Then I formatted the partition again and reinstalled ubuntu. Since then while it's booting, I get the message Disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter. I tried reinstalling many times, but I still get this message..

Ubuntu Installation :: Disc Boot Failure - Insert System Disk And Press Enter

Jan 7, 2010

I bought a t770.uk HP desktop PC, which came without a Hard drive as the pervious owner had removed it for security reasons. A week later I got a hold of a brand new - out of an anti-static sealed bag - compatible Western Digital Caviar SE 80GB SATA150 7200 HDD, and installed it as directed by my t770.uk manual. Up until now, things looked to be on a roll. As I don't have any windows OS, I figured Ubunutu would be the way to go (and it certainly is from what I've heard and read about it. I can't wait!).

So I sent off for a CD and it popped through my mail a few weeks back. The problem that I am having is after booting past a very brief view of the HP POST screen, the screen goes black with the error "Disc boot failure-insert system disk and press enter". I've tried placing the Ubuntu disc in (assuming it is asking for that? An OS disc) and restarting, and changing the boot order around, but no matter what I do the error persists and I can't install Ubuntu. I really want to get this PC running with Ubuntu.

Debian :: Insert Command During Boot?

Jan 31, 2010

I have finally gotten Samba working! Turns out there was no domain set, even though I remember setting it during the install process...hich brings me to yet another question... Now that I have a mount command that works, how do I insert this such that it is run during the boot process? I want to automount a few Samba shares. Is this a good idea?If not why not? If so, where do I edit to add the mount command?

Red Hat :: During Install Can't Eject Kickstart Disk To Insert Binary Disk?

Apr 9, 2011

I am installing a number of boxes with RHEL 6, using a kickstart file I made and put on a boot disk.I am having trouble, however, when using this disk. The boot loader recognizes my kickstart file, but when it prompts me that it can't find the RHEL distro on my disk, and that I need to insert the DVD that contains the distro, I cannot eject the CD. Button pushy, no ejecty. I tried a paper clip to open the drive, but even after inserting the distro disk this way, it doesn't see it. It's like anaconda is wrapped around the mount of the boot disk and won't let go.

There's nothing special I need to have in the kickstart file for this to work right? I have thought about putting an eject statement in the post section, but that isn't even used until the OS is installed is it? I can get around this by creating a distro DVD with my kickstart file, but I'd rather not do that, and use the kickstart/boot disk functionality as intended.

Debian Installation :: No Boot Disk Has Been Detected Or Disk Has Failed

Nov 3, 2015

I installed Debian on my PC with a Acer Stock motherboard (xc600) with amd64 and after the installation finished it told me to remove my installation media and reboot. After reboot I was returned this message ' ERROR: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed.'. I have verified with gparted using mint live OS that I have Debian installed on my system.

I got believes that this may have be caused by a broken grub or I need to configure something I don't know how in BIOS.

I will update the topic later..

My installation media was a USB 2.0 flashdrive with a Debian 8.2 Jessie Installer and 9 different Linux distros. I have installed Debian multiple times before on my laptop and never had this problem so I know how to go through the installation process and set the partitions.

Debian :: Time Displayed Incorrectly After Win7 Duel Boot Setup

Sep 29, 2010

I believe a windows7 addition to a multiboot system has buggered up the time displayed on two other debian installations on the same computer, a X86_64 and an AMD64 respectively. I'm running unstable on the two Debian installations but #dpkg-reconfigure tzdata can't fix the problem. At the moment the local time is displayed as 15:59 when in fact it is 19:59 and UTC is displaying the correct local time. (19:59) when it should be 23:59 I'm sure this is related to something win7 did, because I only noticed it after the additionalinstallation. I just don't know how to change things back like they were.

Debian :: Can't Locate Boot-message Log

Nov 8, 2015

I've just recently installed Debian on my laptop and I'm currently having problems with an occasional white flickering at the top of my screen.

I want to rule out whether this is a driver issue since at boot, just before the GUI pops up, I get a handful of error messages complaining about missing firmware.

So my first problem is rather simple: I'd like to actually read these messages in full but I cannot find them in /var/log/syslog or /var/log/dmesg.

OpenSUSE Install :: GUI Will Not Load - Insert System Disk And Press Enter

Jan 7, 2011

Today, I was downloading some stuff from online. I left for a few minutes and came back to find that someone had hit my loose power cord, causing the computer to restart. When I completed the reboot (It always says "Insert system disk and press enter" after checking CD drives), and had it load OpenSuSE 11.3 Failsafe (Regular won't work for me), it loaded into Teal (BASH, Command Prompt, Kommand, whatever you want to call it). At first, I thought maybe I screwed up and told it to load into that. But, I tried again, and it did the same. I tried using Non-Failsafe, and got the same results. I am able to edit, add, or remove programs from the Linux partition, though.

Debian :: Use Lenny On Desktop - Strange Message At Boot Up

Oct 18, 2010

I use Debian Lenny on desktop. On bootup I get this strange message

Code:

Question one: what is hub 2-0:1.0? A utility? A library? A module?

Queston two: what does "enumerate" mean in this context?

Question three: I can't figure out what "port" is meant: a networking port something on the motherboard one of several I/O port/connector/sockets on the back of the computer? (Hope you know what I mean--- you stick USB connectors into them to connect your computer to a USB device, such as a USB mouse.) the one and only networking port/connector/socket on the back of the computer.

Possibly relevant: I sometimes but not always have a USB cable connecting my printer to one of the USB ports/connectors on the back of the computer at boot time. But the message always refers to "port 1", never 2,3,4. due to lack of options for getting on the Net, I use an Actiontek router which demands to be given 192.168.0.1 which would otherwise be taken by my computer, which instead gets 192.168.0.2. (Grasping at straws...)

Ubuntu :: Error - Mounting /dev/disk/by-uuid/[insert Hex Code Here] Failed: Invalid Argument

Mar 18, 2010

I'm running Kubuntu Karmic on my Dell Inspiron laptop - about 200 bug fixes behind because my only available internet is a cellular connection on a crappy wi-fi router - and last night, I suspended it, but it shut down instead. Not a problem, it does this fairly often, figure the RAM gets jostled or something.

But when I go to boot it up, it gets stuck at the pre-loading screen before getting garbled and dropping to the shell, where it says "mount: mounting /dev/disk/by-uuid/[insert hex code here] failed: invalid argument". Of course, mounting /root/sys, /root/dev and /root/proc fails, (directory does not exist) and it gives me the busybox initramfs prompt.

Ubuntu :: Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media In Selected Boot Device And Press A Key

Apr 16, 2011

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. I got this error after: Reducing my Windows 7 partition by about 100gb. Creating a new partition (100gb) and copying my Ubuntu partition (10gb) to the new partition. After it was copied, and pasted, the original partition was deleted. I now had two partitions a new 100gb Ubuntu partition and a 600gb (or so) Windows 7 partition.

All of this was done using a bootable USB with Ubuntu 10.10 and GParted partition editor. Now when I boot I get the "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key." error.

Debian Installation :: Debian 5.0.4 New Install Will Not Read Boot Disk Info

Mar 10, 2010

I down loaded Debian 5.0.4 and burned it to CD (several times I might add till it was right) and now the computer I'm putting it on wont acknowledge it as a boot disk and load. It does not have a problem with my windows cd, which has a crack and the start of all my problems, But not the Debian CD-1 disk. what now? The computer is an IBM thinkpad a22p. Everything works as far as I can tell. But I was going to reinstall Windows and failed in that because of a small crack on the edge of the disk that stopped the install and any hope of accessing the file on the laptop. Microsoft does not support windows xp any longer, you must buy windows 7, but the ibm will not run it due to processor speed and ram limitations. But it will run linux and I'm willing to try it just to get out of microsoft control.

Idon't know what else to do. This is the link to where I downloaded the software ( [URL] ). The others five that i downloaded were on the same page that I got this one. Are there bad files here? Is there a missing file in the disc?

This (id 10ec :8319 rev 10) is not an 8139c+ compatible chip Try the 8139too driver instead It's something along those lines. It happens at the very beginning of boot, before bootlogd kicks in, or else I would have the entire lines. I had to Ctl+F1 to see that.

Now when i boot it doesnt recognize anything so i tried booting from my ubuntu cd (don't know if its 10.4 or version) and it will load and when i try to install it i get the grub recovery thing and then the initramfs thing and the error "initramfs Can not mount /dev/loop0 (/live/image/live/filesystem.squashfs)"

i don't need ubuntu but i do need windows as it has files and papers that i need this week.
