Ubuntu Multimedia :: Kino H264 Doesn't Work In Karmic
Feb 11, 2010I recently migrated my system to Karmic 9.10 from Hardy 8.04 Now that I want to convert some .avi videos to H.264 in Kino for upload, it doesn't work. In Hardy all was fine, I'd import the .avi files and export to h.264 mp4, then upload to ..... etc ... no problems. But with karmic; after I import the file into Kino, I then trim out the bits I don't want. Next I go to Export and select H.264 MP4 Single Pass (ffmpeg), then click the Export button; it 'locks the audio' and that's it - takes 5 seconds to 'finish' no matter how long the video clip is, and no mp4 file is generated or appears in the selected folder (same result with H.264 MP4 Dual Pass).

Jun 16, 2010I have a Gigabyte mainbord with an Intel IHC9 sound chip. When I configure it via YAST the test-sound plays fine, and when I issue:
sudo speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
some friendly voice starts speaking as well.
But:
speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
doesn't bring about anything sound-like.

Jan 10, 2010having not experienced the issues with jaunty and intel display cards, i can't say whether this is a real problem or not. from what i can tell, mtrr is not a problem.
on my new dell mini 10v w/ intel 945gme and a fresh install of karmic unr, video playback performance is only so-so.
most videos-style flash video is decent. local h.264 playback from .m4v and .mov containers is flawless. but streaming flash video originating as h.264 is dismally choppy - this includes vimeo and hulu-quality streaming video.
Ubuntu Networking :: Stick On Network Manager 0.8 Doesn't Work - Restore Karmic's Version?
Feb 26, 2010I added a repo from launchpad to install latest Network Manager and then installed it (version 0.8). Then I decided to rollback to Karmic's version (since 0.8 doesn't work) but failed: I removed the repo from sources.list
Then apt-get udpate
Then apt-get clean
Then apt-get install network-manager...
But still 0.8 version is downloaded and installed! How can I restore Karmic's version?

Feb 7, 2010I'm trying to get the screen graphics working correctly on a newly purchased ACER Aspire 7740G laptop. It has a 17.3" 16:9 screen with an ATI Radeon Mobility HD5470 512MB graphics card.
The command LSPCI in Terminal gives.....

I've also uploaded /var/ log/ xorg.0.log.
In System/Preferences/Display the pink coloured monitor screen has 'UNKNOWN' displayed on it with only 3 resolutions available.
I installed the ATI Catalyst Control centre but when it initialises, it produces an error saying that there is no driver installed - I thought the XORG log shows that the driver is installed.
The command ATICONFIG in Terminal reports.........
"aticonfig: No supported adapters detected" !

Mar 7, 2010I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my laptop then immediately upgraded to Karmic 9.10. Pulseaudio installed by default. There's no sound although the mute button is not checked and the volume slide control is at medium. lspci gives:

System >Preferences >Sound >Hardware tab: blank window "choose a device to configure" Output tab: "dummy" output stereo
So, it appears that somehow the audio device controller in my laptop is not recognized or its driver disabled, possibly by pulseaudio. Sound works fine in Windows 7 part of this dual-booted laptop.

The webcam is connected and works, kind of, on "cheese", but when I run a test on skype it is just a black box.I have found some code through the forums that allows me to run skype via terminal and will let my webcam work as well as it will on Cheese. Now, when it does run the picture is very blue and dark as well as extremely laggy compared to when ran on Windows Vista.

The microphone does not appear to work at all. It seems to exist because I have a choice for "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" under "sound preferences," but I don't know how else to check whether this is true. Sound Recorder does not record anything and Skype does not capture any sound from me.

May 31, 2010I have a problem with the BBC iplayer. I've upgraded ubuntu to 10.04 and iplayer has stopped working. The iplayer desktop refuses to run, both when the desktop (or menu item) is clicked, and also when a download is clicked on the iplayer site. I've tried uninstalling AdobeAir, and reinstalling. Also, I've completely removed AdobeAir and Iplayer and reinstalled. Still nothing. I'm running 10.04 on a Lenovo 3000 N200 with an Intel Centrino dual core. Flummoxed I'm flummoxed.

Jul 10, 2010I'm running Ubuntu 10.04, using Audacity 1.3.12 beta... and trying to get it to work with a USB Mic.
In Audacity ALSA I/O preferences, I can select the USB mic. But when I record, the input meter stays at about half-way and does not fluctuate when I speak into the microphone... I can hear myself very faintly on the playback... but it is very quiet and there is a loud buzzing. There are no mechanical reasons for this buzzing, such as computer fan, etc...
Also, I cannot find the USB mic in Ubuntu Sound Prefereces...

Sep 6, 2010i just installed ubuntu netbook remix 10.04.1 on an aspire one 532h netbook, and everything works great except i cant get the mic to work with skype. i know the mic is working correctly because i tried it in sound recorder and was able to record and playback my voice.all sound levels are where they should be, and everything seems to be in order. i'm using the latest beta of skype also. i installed pavucontrol but that didn't do anything.because the mic is working, i'm beginning to think it may be a problem with skype.
