May 27, 2009I am using a wireless Xbox 360 controller with openSUSE 11.1. I use it for some emulators and all buttons work fine. There is however an annoying problem, the Xbox controller left joystick controls the cursor and digital pad acts as mouse buttons. So while I play, the cursor moves all around the screen and bad things could happen. Why this behavior? In xorg.conf there seems to be only just 1 mouse. And if I go in Joystick via YaST, there is only a menu to select which joystick I have. But my wireless controller has been automatically detected, I didn't setup anything. Is there a config file that I can modify to stop controlling the mouse with my gamepad?

Oct 28, 2010By default I believe alt+click moves my window around. Except, I'm trying to use alt+click in my video game in a virtual computer and it won't let me do it. I can do click, or hold alt, but I can't alt+click in my game.
How would I disable the alt+click move window so I can use alt+click in my game?

Jun 1, 2010This game is Java based. After rebooting the game works, but on ending the game several notification boxes remain. If these boxes are not closed in the reverse order that the game opened them, it is no longer possible to close them. Only by killing the Java processes can these notifications be made to close. Also after playing the game, even if all these notifications are closed it is many times necessary to kill the Java process(es) in order to get the game to load again at a later time. I am currently using Slackware 1.30, but a similar problem has existed in several of the past releases.

Jun 18, 2010I can not get the node or cloud controllers to startup using the init.d scripts. I have a fresh install of CentOS 5.4 with Eucalyptus 1.6.2 I have compiled Eucalyptus and all packages using the RPM supplied from Eucalyptus and utilizing yum installer. I do not currently have any processes or applications listening currently on the ports on the boxes as well. I think it may be a permissions issue or something because I get a "permission denied error", but I am not sure if it is Eucalyptus or CentOS. It looks as if it is not binding to the address on the interface of the NIC. It may be something else however. I have the Node controller, Cloud controller, and Cluster controller on seperate physical boxes. When I try to run either the cloud controller or the node controller I get this message:

Ubuntu :: Proper Analog Controller With Joypad/controller Mupen64plus?
Sep 15, 2010Basically i want it so that the analogue stick on my PS2 controller, which connects via a USB adaptor and is recognized, correctly controls in game characters. It seems to work fine enough in platformers, at least it does with Banjo Kazooie, but with games like perfect Dark it seem to be trying to move forward and look down at the same time, also backward and look up simultaneously and look sideways and move sideways simultaneously , rendering the game all but unplayable.
I have tried running jscal and, apart from the fact that it seems a bit beyond me, it reports "jscal: missing devicename" when i try to run "jscal -c". Do others out there have there analogue sticks working correctly with games like Perfect Dark, or the James Bond games, for example?

I downloaded the x86 & x86-64 installer with:

Then according to the guide:
chmod u+x dangerdeep-0.3.0-linux-installer.bin
Then I tried to run the installer from the user terminal but it informed that it was necessary to run it as root. After installing it with
# ./dangerdeep-0.3.0-linux-installer.bin
I typed in dangerdeep in the user terminal which returned:
$ dangerdeep
dangerdeep: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
found information in Synaptic that the library libgl1-mesa-swx11 is also known as libGL or libGL.so.1.
But installing it with # aptitude install libgl1-mesa-swx11 results in the removal of libgl1-mesa-glx, and when trying to run the game by typing dangerdeep in the terminal, it still complains about an error while loading shared libraries libGL.so.1.
it looks a bit tricky to get this game running on Squeeze so I reinstalled libgl1-mesa-glx.

Jan 22, 2011I have been trying to play this game dawn-rpg.sourceforge.net and it immediately crashes whenever I try to play sounds. The only other sound in this system I have are the sounds for the bash/dash terminal.
So my questions are:-
a. How do I test if the sound system is working alright.
b. Do I need to increase some kind of priorty/niceness to sound systems to make sure they get the available resources (cpu, memory ) whatever it needs ?

Debian :: 8bpp For Game But 8bit Gnome Is Too Dark To See?
Apr 23, 2010I'm running amd64 squeeze. I recently installed a game through wine that requires 8 bit color mode. when gnome desktop runs normally (24bit) it looks fine but when I stop gdm and startx -- -depth 8 the desktop, menu's and everything appears so dark(brownish) that I have to be two inches from the screen to to make anything out. I've searched google and here for gnome color palette but I can't find anything remotely similar to my problem. I'm not even sure if its a problem with gnome, x or the video card. I'm running a radeon x600, and the xorg.conf (that I had to generate with xorg -configure) mentions the radeon driver and rv380 radeon x600 pcie since I haven't installed the ati drivers I'm assuming its using the debian package one.

Minimized in a way that there is even no apt-get or dpkg installed on it, due to keep the memory footprint as small as possible.Is there a way to keep a "shadow" system in a directory on my Laptop (e.g. ~/armel), maintained with dependencies by a package manager like apt-get? This would allow to install addition packages including all dependent with a simple apt-get call.Of course, later I have to put the whole tree from my Laptop towards my embedded controller. I've already tried the following:Setup a directory tree behind ~/armel for apt by a copy from my laptops Lenny

Debian :: Game Performance - Impossible To Play - Open But Everything Is So Slow And Choppy
Feb 20, 2011My last laptop was replaced (I gave it to my step-dad, his laptop broke and I bought myself a new one).
I am running Squeeze (as I was on my other laptop) and everything is fine except for the games. On my other laptop games like OpenArena and Warzone 2100 ran perfectly fine, but on this laptop, they are impossible to play. The game will open, but everything is so slow and choppy that it takes a couple of minutes to even move the cursor to the exit game buttons.
My current laptop is an HP ProBook4525s with the current specs:
AMD Athlon Dual-Core P340 2.2 GHz processor
2GB DDR3 RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 Graphics Card
I'm not sure what other information to put here, I've tried searching how to fix this and most people say to lower the resolution and details for the games but that doesn't work, heck, even Tux Kart is too slow to play!
When I installed squeeze I was informed that I didn't have the rtl8168d-2.fw firmware for my laptop, I'm not sure if that helps here at all (can't seem to find what it is for, the only things that google gives me are very technical with fixes that involve re-compiling the kernel).
Debian Multimedia :: Alter Audio Volume Whilst Playing A Game?
Oct 25, 2010I have a Dell laptop and have multi-media buttons, some of which control the audio volume. But once a game is running like Sauerbraten, I cannot control the volume. The controls within the game are relative to the master volume, so if the volume is too low, I have to exit the game to adjust it.

Debian :: Use Sixaxis (PS3 Controller) As Joystick?

For a year and a half I've been trying to get sixaxis working on ubuntu, and there appear to be even less options on debian.
While this page suggests there is kernel support, usbmon doesn't show any packages coming down the line at all (But lsusb does recognize the device)
So how do I get debian to recognize the sixaxis?

Aug 2, 2010Recently we bought a server machine in purpose of hosting game servers.Debian is the optimal choice for us but we have a huge problem.We have 2 x HDD Fujitsu MBA3300RC, 300GB, 15000rpm, 16MB [MBA3300RC] , but NO SAS-controller , so standard Debian DVD1 didn't recognized our HDD's during installation.Is there any way to install Debian on our machine without haveing to buy a SAS-controller? answer in "step-by-step" method, i am not very experimentated in linux.

The dmesg file shows that it's being recognized, but I don't think it's actually being used (i.e. there is no driver installed). This is what's in the dmesg file:

Unless someone has already compiled a driver for Debian Lenny for this hardware, I'm going to have to compile my own I guess. The driver package seems to come with something called mptlinux-4.00.43.00-src.tar.gz which I'm guessing can be compiled for any Linux, but looking at the instructions, it's pretty much beyond me how to get started. It talks about using kernel source to build a module and such and such.
Fedora Networking :: Windows Sever 2k3 Domain Controller / Use Machine With Samba As Secondary Domain Controller?
Apr 28, 2009At the school i work in i have a server2k3 server that provides a domain to all the windows clients, aswell as a fedora server that acts as an imaging machine and webserver.
Im rather concious of the fact that if for any reason the Server2k3 server was to die there is no backup of active directory, or anything that can take its place whilst a replacement is found.
So is it possible to use a fedora machine with samba as a secondary domain controller? so it can be used as a login server, and has a copy of AD.

Mar 29, 2010Sony plans to release a new Playstation 3 firmware update worldwide this week in hopes of combating potential software piracy. System update v3.21 will disable the console's "Install Other OS" feature, which allowed users to install the Linux operating system. The feature is currently only available in PlayStation 3 models released prior to the "slim" redesign that launched in September 2009. The update will go live on April 1. SCEA's corporate communications director Patrick Seybold notes on the PlayStation Blog the feature is being removed due to "security concerns."
"In addition, disabling the "Other OS" feature will help ensure that PS3 owners will continue to have access to the broad range of gaming and entertainment content from SCE and its content partners on a more secure system," Seybold wrote. Debian Configuration :: Lenny Or Sid As A Domain Controller?
Feb 18, 2010Can Debian act as a Windows Domain Controller? I'm just curious because my boss recently tossed out some old servers and I grabbed them. They're good machines but I can't afford to pay $1000 for Server 2003 R2 just to setup a domain at my place and run Endpoint Protection and such. I've never used a domain setup in Linux before so I thought I'd ask and possibly try to, if Debian/Linux is capable of such a thing.
