Debian :: Run The Game By Typing Dangerdeep In The Terminal?
May 30, 2010
I wonder if anyone has managed to get this game working? Looks interesting... I tried to install it on my Testing amd64 having read about it in linuxjournal and in the link given there. But no luck...
I downloaded the x86 & x86-64 installer with:
wget [URL]
Then according to the guide:
chmod u+x dangerdeep-0.3.0-linux-installer.bin
Then I tried to run the installer from the user terminal but it informed that it was necessary to run it as root. After installing it with
# ./dangerdeep-0.3.0-linux-installer.bin
I typed in dangerdeep in the user terminal which returned:
$ dangerdeep
dangerdeep: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
found information in Synaptic that the library libgl1-mesa-swx11 is also known as libGL or libGL.so.1.
But installing it with # aptitude install libgl1-mesa-swx11 results in the removal of libgl1-mesa-glx, and when trying to run the game by typing dangerdeep in the terminal, it still complains about an error while loading shared libraries libGL.so.1.
it looks a bit tricky to get this game running on Squeeze so I reinstalled libgl1-mesa-glx.

I want to create a text based adventure game that interfaces over gmail. I'm in the process of writing a java program that will take text input, and return text output. But before I can do that, I need to find a way to use something like nail, mailx, or if absolutely necessary evolution, to import emails from gmail and pipe them into this java program. I want to do all of this independent of a GUI, so any solutions that use mailx or nail.

I'm a long term danger from the deep fan, basically it's one of the two games i enjoy playing. So I've compiled dangerdeep-0.4.0_pre3327 using scons install but after I'm trying to run it I get this
Code:
Stack trace: (5 frames)
0x427e66 in at faulthandler.h:129
0x4232c6 in at mymain.cpp:57
0x4233ac in at list.tcc:68

In /usr/share there's no dangerdeep folder though if I run the command locate dangerdeep it finds an /usr/share/dangerdeep folder, and that's pretty strange. So anyway I really don't know where should I put the data files. There is a linux build inside dangerdeep-0.4.0_pre3327, and I've tried to copy the data files there but without any luck. Is this happening because I have a 64bit distribution, and it just wasn't made for it?

This game is Java based. After rebooting the game works, but on ending the game several notification boxes remain. If these boxes are not closed in the reverse order that the game opened them, it is no longer possible to close them. Only by killing the Java processes can these notifications be made to close. Also after playing the game, even if all these notifications are closed it is many times necessary to kill the Java process(es) in order to get the game to load again at a later time. I am currently using Slackware 1.30, but a similar problem has existed in several of the past releases.

1. I tried to change my password by typing "passwd" in the terminal. It then asked me to input the Unix password. After I typed in the Unix password, it read "Authentication token manipulation error". Why did that happen? I know what the Unix password is.2. . What is the difference between Unix password and Root password?

Do you know any game engines or game studios that can make adventure games, for instance in the style of Myst (1st person) or in the style of old Sierra games (3rd person), like King's Quest, Space Quest, etc.?I've seen AGI Studio, but it is too old, I'd like to use more modern graphics (although there is no need for 3D).

I tried to inactivate my touchpad during typing in order to avoid the curser jumping all the time due to accicentally hitting the pad.
The touchpad however worked from intallation on,without problems. Even two finger scrolling is supported perfectly. All attempts that I found in searching the internet rely on changes in the xorg.conf. I found out that it is quite normal to not have this file with debian squeeze, however I didn't find a solution how to change the configurations without it.

I am having some issues with the typing speed in gedit. When typing the response is usually really slow,It can be up to a second or so between rendering keystrokes. I don't believe it has anything to do with resources. I have checked the processes running when it happens and everything looks pretty normal cpu usuage is also very low at the time. The system is very responsive with everything else at the time.
I only have this problem with gedit, gvim, vim, nano etc are fine. Maybe an issue with a GTK lib of some sort? The problem happens with very small files like little bash scripts. I have including some info about the system ...

I recently built my first computer which has Debian Jessie running on it.
Everything was running great until I updated the computer a few days ago. After doing that and turning it on a few hours later, the keyboard started missing letters (as in it wouldn't register every key click) and was also typing some letters over and over again. It seems that it doesn't matter what key I press, the same problem occurs.
I tried using the keyboard on my laptop; it worked perfectly. I also tried connecting up another keyboard I had laying around and that seemed to have the same issue. Both keyboards are mechanical.

The first might be a libinput issue (I believe it's new within the last year or so): After typing, two-finger scrolling does not work until a delay of what seems to be a full second or more has passed. It's not a movement threshold issue, since wild movements don't fix the issue, nor is this delay experienced without first typing.
Note that moving the pointer and clicking with the touchpad work immediately after typing. Only two-finger scrolling seems to be delayed.
The second issue is that the touchpad does not function whatsoever during installation. Using the graphical installer, I have to rely entirely on the keyboard to navigate.

I have been trying to play this game dawn-rpg.sourceforge.net and it immediately crashes whenever I try to play sounds. The only other sound in this system I have are the sounds for the bash/dash terminal.
So my questions are:-
a. How do I test if the sound system is working alright.
b. Do I need to increase some kind of priorty/niceness to sound systems to make sure they get the available resources (cpu, memory ) whatever it needs ?
On the same topic, while I was searching on the Net I got this link http://rosegardenmusic.com/wiki/low-latency_kernels .
I know this is actually for people who want to make sounds/music but can some of these ideas/instructions be useful for me as well ?

I'm running amd64 squeeze. I recently installed a game through wine that requires 8 bit color mode. when gnome desktop runs normally (24bit) it looks fine but when I stop gdm and startx -- -depth 8 the desktop, menu's and everything appears so dark(brownish) that I have to be two inches from the screen to to make anything out. I've searched google and here for gnome color palette but I can't find anything remotely similar to my problem. I'm not even sure if its a problem with gnome, x or the video card. I'm running a radeon x600, and the xorg.conf (that I had to generate with xorg -configure) mentions the radeon driver and rv380 radeon x600 pcie since I haven't installed the ati drivers I'm assuming its using the debian package one.

My last laptop was replaced (I gave it to my step-dad, his laptop broke and I bought myself a new one).
I am running Squeeze (as I was on my other laptop) and everything is fine except for the games. On my other laptop games like OpenArena and Warzone 2100 ran perfectly fine, but on this laptop, they are impossible to play. The game will open, but everything is so slow and choppy that it takes a couple of minutes to even move the cursor to the exit game buttons.
My current laptop is an HP ProBook4525s with the current specs:
AMD Athlon Dual-Core P340 2.2 GHz processor
2GB DDR3 RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 Graphics Card
I'm not sure what other information to put here, I've tried searching how to fix this and most people say to lower the resolution and details for the games but that doesn't work, heck, even Tux Kart is too slow to play!
When I installed squeeze I was informed that I didn't have the rtl8168d-2.fw firmware for my laptop, I'm not sure if that helps here at all (can't seem to find what it is for, the only things that google gives me are very technical with fixes that involve re-compiling the kernel).

I have a Dell laptop and have multi-media buttons, some of which control the audio volume. But once a game is running like Sauerbraten, I cannot control the volume. The controls within the game are relative to the master volume, so if the volume is too low, I have to exit the game to adjust it.

I find xcompmgr more than adequate for making a desktop look pretty modern, and I don't like the more extravagentCompiz gimmicks - but there is one thing that irritates when using xcompmgr which someone here might have worked round.
Rounded window borders don't draw and redraw properly when using the Terminal (gnome-terminal and the LXDE and Xfce ones) or system monitor and moving them from their default place. You get this little white botch at the corners. I'm not massively technical and I'm ambivalent about how much more I want to learn as I have plenty of creative outlets already, but I would like to solve this. Somehow xcompmgr is treating these programs as a different class? It's capable of drawing the window borders properly as it is just these two programs that get botched. Possibly this doesn't get noticed as maybe people usually use xcompmgr with openbox and LXDE and their square window borders. I did do a search but there was nothing matching what I saw.

I have nx nomachine installed on 64bit opensuse 11.2. All was fine until I ran updates this week and now it seems that it has a mind of its own. (dont remember which packages were updates)Every time I open the cli it just starts typing the equal symbol on its own. In fact every time I open anything that can accept text input it just starts adding equal symbols. It enters them about 2 every second.Code:jason@FileServer:~> =========================I uninstalled all the NX packages, killed the .nx folder in my user folder and then reinstalled the packages and still the same thing.

I'd like to write a little script to ask me what I'm doing at regular intervals, but I'd like it not to grab focus if I'm in the middle of writing an email or filling in a password. The two options I've come up with are (1) notify-send/pynotify which lets me pop up a notification bubble in the top right of my screen which is perfect, but can't seem to include a text entry field; and (2) zenity and similar which bring up a window with a text field, but steal focus when they do.
