Whenever my debian based server is rebooted 35 times it does an automatic disc check. When it does this and completes the disc check it doesn't properly establish network comms and I can't get in using SSH and I can't even ping the server. If I reboot again, it operates as normal but the problem is that the server is remote to me and I need to travel to the site when this occurs.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am new to Debian but not Linux-based systems. I have been experimenting a lot with Debian Lenny/Squeeze. I am growing more comfortable each day with the Debian design. Yet there remain many unexplored areas. I am creating a migration check list. Things to check, prepare, or reconfigure when moving from one Linux-based system to Debian.
I have a good computer background and my current check list probably is fairly good. Yet I would appreciate input and opinions from experienced Debian users of things to watch in such a migration. Login defs, passwd/group files, different directory locations, keymaps, services and daemons, etc. I am not too concerned with the desktop as I plan to stick with KDE 3.5 for a while and I can basically move those settings across.
I am having issues with 3d I am trying to start up a game called auteria but it displays this error "Could not find a compatible opengl display resolution. Please check your driver configuration. (Error: Couldn't find a matching GLX visual)" I am on ubuntu 10.10 could anybody give me a solution on how to fix this issue?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two Debian 5 servers which running on both the same version of OpenSSH (5.1p1) and OpenSSL (0.9.8g).
One week ago, I set ssh keys on both of them and create the file "authorized_keys". I was able to connect on each server via SSH without password (which is the purpose of ssh keys) but I had an issue with the SSH service and I had to restart one of my server. And since this time, when I try to connect to my other server with the same ssh command, the command ask me to type the password...
This is the result of the ssh command (with the argument -v):
Code:
OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-5, OpenSSL 0.9.8g 19 Oct 2007

Since a few month, I upgraded my configuration to an Acer Aspire E 17 laptop. I dropped the Windows 8 that was installed inside by default. Right now my hard disk looks like that :
- A Windows 10 Installation form the final released version's iso
- A Debian 8.1 Installation with Gnome 3.x as desktop
As I am a developper, I enjoy Debian, the power, and the capabilities unlocked with Linux systems. However, I still need my Windows installation for design work, making templates, etc. For now, I need to boot Debian if I want to code, and to boot Windows if I want to use some proprietary programs such as Adobe's softwares. For a lot of reasons I can explain, I don't want to use alternative like Gimp, and I don't want to run so big softwares under Wine.
So, I want to do the following : I want to create a little partition formatted in ext4 on my disk (something like 10gb ?) and make this partition running my local configuration of Apache 2. This way, I could run my webserver, with the same files both on Debian (when I need to code) and Windows (when I need to design / template and to test some stuffs into my templates files). I could mount this partition under Windows using ext2fsd program, but this way of thinking supposes there is both Apache's linux binaries and Apache's windows binaries to run and manage the server in this partition (making something like a " portable " version ?) .
I had to build it with nls (locales) and the mozilla-plugin disabled, due to the Lenny libc6 causing problems.

I have had reports of the aspect ratio being weird for ATI cards, as well as no full screen, but it works fine in the Virtual Box Lenny, as well as on my Intel graphics.
You will also need the lenny-backports repo, to get some missing or updated libraries. see backports.org
You would need to install the vlc-data deb first, then you can install the rest of the debs: (except for the -dbg version, unless you need it) dpkg -i *386.deb
If you have missing dependencies, you get an error=1, so get the missing dependencies with aptitude -f install or apt-get -f install. You may have to manually install the lenny-backports libraries if you have trouble. You actually don't need the -dev, dbg, and most of the other libraries, so you may want to look at what the vlc metapackage needs and install those.
Just wondering if there were any NES, SNES, etc emulators compatable with PowerPC Debian?
Not entirely sure if they will run well, but can't hurt to give it a try.
I installed a video card called ASUS EAH 4550 and installed the ATI drivers necessary for this video card. The problem is this, I current have two users using Debian. I have done all the necessary configurations via x.org and User 1 has no problem accessing GNome with Compiz as the window manager. However, if user 2 was to log in the same way as user 1 (through startx) the screen does not boot up Gnome but instead the screen powers off into standby mode. I've also tried creating a third user and the same thing occurs.
Currently I am typing through User 1 with no problem but additional users for some reason can not get a desktop screen.
I am looking to buy a USB hard drive that will work with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server, is there anything I need to look out for? Are there any computability issues I should be aware of? I have looked through Ubuntu's documentation but couldn't really find anything.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am somewhat of a newbie at *nix. I've asked some questions about Debian in the past, but I decided to just go ahead and start simple, with Ubuntu, then moving up once I've got the hang of things. So, I want to use Ubuntu 9.10 as a fileserver for my network, which consists of 3 Windows PCs and 1 Mac. I have a few ideas on where to go, Samba being my first package install, but I'm not too sure where to go from there. Could someone help me out? I love to RTFM, so if you'd point me kindly in those directions, I'll be glad to jump right on that too.

Ive installed it into /usr/share/themes and the window border and close, minimise maximise buttons show up right but the other controls (buttons, scrollbars, progress bars etc) dont and default to the generic ones.
I know nothing about how themes work really but I assumed as long as both distros were using Metacity it would work?

My old sound card just broke and I am planning of buying a new one, a 5.1. I was wondering what sound card would you recommend for debian squeeze not more than 40 euros. I was thinking of this HERCULES MUSE 5.1 that is about 35 euros is that complatible with debian/linux? I want that one because creative is to expensive and this one is 5.1 for videogames, DVD and available to put 6 speakers.

The problem is that it I need to add more SATA ports. RAID is not a big deal to me so the card can be a simple add in card. I am limited to PCI because the board does not have any pci expres slots. I am also interested in what hard drives that card would work with. I am hoping to keep them to 500 Gigs min. The motherboard has two built in SATA prots but I don't use them have had bad luck with them in the past

The one in upstream has problems, but reading the bug reports provided the answer. I disabled the building of the python2.5 modules, and added python-httplibs2 as a Depends, and it magically started to work. Deb file and source: [URL] This is a temporary location, I'm sure upstream will have a fixed version soon.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUpon booting, I am receiving a message about a driver, I am not sure what it is and it runs perfectly fine the way it is, but I would like to investigate the reason. This (id 10ec :8319 rev 10) is not an 8139c+ compatible chip Try the 8139too driver instead It's something along those lines. It happens at the very beginning of boot, before bootlogd kicks in, or else I would have the entire lines. I had to Ctl+F1 to see that.

I have installed a LAMP server with Postfix as mail server. The scripts send email as user www-data using the mail server on the same machine.
However, the email got rejected by external mail servers (failed reverse DNS check) so I setup a mail server that meets all needed requirements.
Now I would like to use this second server instead of the mail server on the LAMP server. I found that this could be done with changing sendmail settings in php.ini (I think).
However I am not sure how that will go: www-data is no actual user on the new email server (which requires authentication before sending). Do I need to create a new user on the email server or change the settings in php.ini to match an existing user?
Below is the recipe I've used to compile dwm from source on Squeeze
su
apt-get install devscripts debian-keyring
apt-get build-dep dwm
exit
It all seems to work, however debuild gave an error about secret keys. Is this a sensible procedure? What happens in the (probably unlikely) event there is another source patch?I've gone to a tiling window manager as the result of the purchase of a wide screen LCD monitor. I like to have some stuff down the right hand side when running Firefox and OpenOffice in the main panes. Any configuration tricks welcome. Modern screens are the wrong shape!

I would like it if the users goes to www.somedomain.com and the server it is actually on is down for maint. or For whatever not able to respond. What can be done so that if the server isn't able to be contacted that it can point to either a another server or the dns somehow can display a page stating who to contact to report a problem or to let them know its down for maint. And can goto a site to check the status or whatever.
