I'm having trouble using my hotmail account on Evolution. It used to work just fine but I when I opened Evolution today the following error ocurred: Could not login on server POP3 pop3.live.com. Error when sending username: -ERR command not expected now It then asks me to put my hotmail password... which I do and the same error appears again. Can someone tell me what's going on?
View 1 Repliesim really impressed with the OS so far, exactly what i've been looking for. the install was a little rough, it hung up on "getting the time from the server" for almost 15 minutes even though i was connected to the internet. then for the first few bootups, the ubuntu boot screen was a box that only took up 1/4 of the screen. but that went away. anyway - im in now and its all looking good, but theres a few things i would like to be able to know how to do.
#1 - how do i set up evolution to access my hotmail account?
#2 - just noticed this while uploading an avatar to this site, the box that pops up that lets you browse your files - theres no view change? i have to click each individual picture to see what it is; can this be changed?
#3 - what is currently the best way to get an expose-like feature going in ubuntu?
I first seriously tried to switch to Ubuntu. I now find myself very rarely booting into Windows XP, and all the apps I need to use have free replacements.However, after porting about 15-20 years worth of email from Outlook (via Thunderbird) into Evolution, I'm finding Evo's performance has gone down the toilet.It was snappy to start with, but over time has got slower. I regularly get long waits as it displays notes that it is retrieving message number <whatever>.
I'm using POP3/SMTP for most email (I've a low-usage IMAP account with gmx.com too), but it seems like some sort of issue where I'd want to optimise or "defragment" my local mail store.Has anyone any ideas or suggestions on this?My ~/.evolution/mail folder contains about 2.5Gb if that's any help.This is with 9.10 Ubuntu; I have done some basic tuning on the setup, but not a lot.
running debian 6.0 "Squeeze" I installed Evolution trough official debian squeeze mirrors, installed all available updates (that know off) but i still can connect to my POP3 (email) server.what does evolution need to connect to pop3 ? when use Kmail, everything works fine

If I delete an email from within the client it will also be deleted from Hotmail's web bases interface.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI 've got an hotmail (live-mail) account, that I'm using on my iPod with Microsoft Exchange. This is really working fine, so I was very happy when I read, that you can use this feature with Evolution Mail.
Now my Problem is, that the Settings I use on my iPod won't work with Evolution.
I think the Problem is the OWA URL cause whatever I do it can't connect to this Server.

I have my hotmail account set up in evolution and it receives just fine but it gets stuck trying to send. Its set to smtp.live.com for the sending server. any suggestions as to why it wont send? i have a gmail account set up with thunderbird and it sends just fine so i know i can send.

What does this mean? I mean there are plenty of guides that tell you how to but majority of guides of no insight to help you understand what is going on. Also I don't know about you but I find it an incredibly shallow and not to mention fraught experience following guides that contain customized elements because I never know the specifications applicable to me. You can't always just copy and paste commands as sometimes variables are tailored to the instructor's situation.

How do I find out?"SMTP" is specified by default as server type. What is SMTP?What is "inet daemon"? Now, save your file, exit gedit, and restart your inetd server using the following command" - what is "port 2500"? This is why Linux will never be able to compete with Windows. I have just tried to set up a pop3 account in thunderbird3 and it sends fine, but it doesn't pull any emails off the server. It just says no messages, but there are no error messages, nothing in the error console, etc.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter reading everything that says you don't need an anti-virus for Linux. OR Linux doesn't get viruses. Guess what I have a Virus. I don't know which one, but it is sending out spam emails from my webmail, MSN, account. I do not have a local client installed. I am guessing it is linking into MSN through Pidgin, getting the addresses there, and sending the spam, somehow, through MSN. Actually one MSN and one Hotmail account. I also have not been able to find an anti-virus program for Ubuntu. There do not seem to be any listed in the software repositories that Ubuntu links into. How do I get rid of it? My contacts are starting to get upset.

The obvious result of that was that I had empty hotmail (web) account. I've found this but its for Thunderbird to upload your messages back on to the server. If I can put all my messages back into hotmail server that would be great. Since I do use web account as well. KMail is only on my home PC.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just synchronized my hotmail account with evolution and it works flawlessly, however every time I click send-receive it stars to download mail by mail (more than 10,000, so it takes a while) and it won't check if I got new messages until it is done. The first time it happened I thought it was a normal thing, and that evo won't scan ever again from my hotmail account. Does anyone know how to stop doing that?
I have another brief question, I would like to know if there's a way that when I read a message on evolution it will also mark as read the same message on my hotmail account.

I'm trying to set up my gmail account with Evolution. I am trying to set up a mail client where -
1) All the mails are stored locally, so that I can work offline. When I reconnect, the client (Evolution) syncs with the server - sends emails and updates any changes.
2) All the labels/folder system to be respected and retained.
After struggling with various sites that argued Pop3 and IMAP (numerous blogs and google searches), I came across this conclusion (pls correct them if they are wrong)-
1) Pop3 allows mails to be stored locally, but will not break them up into folders.
2) IMAP will allow the folder system, but will only store the headers of mail on the local server, and the content will be downloaded as per request.
1) Will Pop3 access allow syncing between the local version and the server version? For instance, a mail read in Evolution should be marked as read when I sign into the web-interface as well.(I can always create a filter/rule that replicates gmail filters)
2) Will IMAP allow me to store all mail locally (isn't this exactly what IMAP is not!)? The combination of imap-gmail-evolution was not so successful when I tried it out - too slow!
PS: I would prefer Evolution over Thunderbird so that I can integrate the Calendar. However, if ThunderBird is the easiest solution, then it's fine too...
I just upgraded my Ubuntu 8.04 server to 10.04 and now I cannot receive mail on my Ubuntu 10.04 Evolution client, although I can send mail. No errors appear in auth.log or mail.log when I attempt to log in from my Evolution client, in fact mail.log shows 'pop3d-ssl: connection' from my laptop IP, followed by 'pop3d: Disconnected' when the log-in attempts fail.
I'm able to ssh into the server using the same log-on and password as before the upgrade, however I haven't changed the public or private keys in my .ssh directory. I updated the ssl keys in /etc/postfix/ssl but wasn't able to receive mail before or after the update.
The error in the client reads: 'Unable to connect to POP server mail.mydomain.com, error sending username'
I ran this test and the output appears to be related:
Is the pop3 server not running TLS? /etc/postfix/main.cf says it should, and I get no errors restarting / reloading postfix.
I am receiving messages in /home/user/Maildir, but I cannot download them.
I checked for supported authentication types in my Evolution client - 'Password' is the only one supported, as was true before. The client is not using any certificates.
The output of openssl s_client -tls1 -connect 127.0.0.1:995 shows 'certificate has expired' on the 'Verify return code' entry, not sure if that's significant.
What's different about incoming versus outgoing mail authentication?
I just installed ubuntu for the first time today, and setup Evolution to check my email from my hotmail account. All went fine, I downloaded all my emails from the last 7 years but then when I actually logged in to my email account on hotmail.com all of my messages were gone and my inbox empty. I was hoping that it would downlaod a copy of my messages - I still want a copy in my hotmail inbox for backup just in case something happens to my computer. Anyway, so my question is there a way to put them back into my hotmail account? I know its not as though I have lost them forever, I just would like the last 7 years of important emails on there in just in case.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFirst thing I will say is I am new this site and computers in general. I have pc and am running back track 4. Today the computer shut off, maybe an over heat. I restarted it and it turned off again even before the reboot finished. I put an additional cooling fan in front of the air intake and the computer is staying on but now will not open the emails in the my hot mail account. It seems to open the account, I can see what is in my in box just can not open them. Moving the curser over the unopened email usually made what is in task bar at the bottom of the page change. As of now it continues to say "Done" in stead of showing a task. Moving the curser over other things on the same page will make the task bar say "javascript" only.

I would like to change an email account from POP3 to IMAP on an ISPConfig 2 system, I can see that the IMAP and POP3 process are both running.
I have the Maildir check box ticked for the server
Is there anything else I need to do, or is it just a case of changing the mail client from expecting POP3 to expecting IMAP?
I'm running Evolution 2.30.3 on fc13.x64 and I've been getting a funny problem for a while, that now really annoys me:
even if the settings for my hotmail account are correct, Evolution will ask for the password every time I log in. Also, since I keep it open, after a while (~30 minutes) it "forgets" somehow the password and asks for the password again. This time, anyway, it won't work and I have to reset Evolution again.
Bonus question: even if hotmail is configured correctly for receiving and sending (smtp.live.com etc.), it won't send email, but will remain stuck on "sending".
I'm using POP yahoo and it usually works, but often I will get a popup saying unable to connect to POP server... Error sending username: +OK maildrop ready, ... If I cancel & try again later it usually works. The error is getting more frequent.

I've successfully joined my 8.04 LTS samba file server to the windows domain. I've read many tutorials like [URL].I used krb5 and winbind and not modern likewise-open. I had successfully got the ticket for the user under whom I was able to join to AD. I'm able to get domain controller information with net ads info. But I can't login to that server through ssh (I'm using Putty at windows XP) with any ADuser credentials. I've tried

so its not that difficult after all - just use PRISM!log into hotmail on your browser - copy the http: line and add it to PRISM then add your login detail and Voila! all ready to add to the task bar!ok so not the most in depth how-to but if youve been messing about with all the different email apps using Prism will be childs play! if not just message me and ill add more detail.
