I have installed Fedora Core 11 with SELinux enforcing.It appears (via log files) that if I use a .forward file in the home directory for root that SELinux prevents the use of this mechanism for forwarding e-mail.Is there a way to continue to use SELinux and be able to forward root's e-mail to an outside account?

I have a bunch of debian servers - most of them running exim4 default installations configured as internet site using dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config. It can send mails fine from php scripts and some other applications, but I can't seem to find a way to forward all root mail to some external address. I have tried adding "root: someaddress@example.com" to /etc/aliases and run newaliases command, but it doesn't seem to work.

After that I ran the same command with the verbose option:
/usr/sbin/sendmail -v root <prueba.txt

For some reason sendmail tried to connect to example.com smtp server and couldn't reach it. I am sure this is because the smtp server for example.com domain is not example.com is mail.example.com. Besides mail.example.com requires authentication, username , password and the smtp port is not the default 25 is 9999. configure sendmail to forward root mail to a smtp server that requires authentication, username, password with a not the default 25 port?
I have set up evolution with two POP account and it deleted all my mails from the servers, migrating them on the local machine.
How could I forward all the messages from Evolution to a mail account so I can access them over the Internet?
Forwarding all of them as attachment doesn't, because many of the emails themselves have attachment and it gives an error saying attachment type not supported.
If I try forwarding inline or quoted I have to forward them one by one and there are around 4000.
You can find a list of all the booleans for SELinux (Fedora 10) using getsebool -a My question is, is there a reference online that describes each one. Most of obvious but it's one of those "I have to know because it's there situation).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI try to use FTP to put new files and catalogs on my server and I always run into problems that I have not the right to create catalogs and files in the named catalogs and so on, it is very annoying.Is there a way around this problem or do I have to activate root account to not run into these problems all the time? I have worked with different UNIX-versions and variants for the last 15 years at least and have always had access to root account, why is it so dangerous to have access to root account in ubuntu?

(Great for learning Linux!) After using this tutorial:URL...for setting up a LAMP-server, I'm trying to figure out is whether or not setting up a root-password is necessary or not. I think the tutorial is really great for a newbie, but it consistently uses su instead of sudo.I'm aware of the fact that setting a root-password isn't recommended in the documentation, but don't you need a root-account to be able to run tools such as webmin?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've started to get emails that would typically come from [URL] as [URL]. These emails come from services that send out emails (backup programs) directly, or from cronjobs. I've logged in as the non-root account and either sudo su - or su - to root and the restart the service at one point or another. If I login directly as root and bounce the service or cron the emails come across as from root. I don't see anything in my environment variables after I su to indicate what would cause this. I'm not sure where else to look? A pam setting? This seems to have happened between Fedora 10 and 14 (did a bunch of overdue upgrades recently) I've only got Fedora so I don't have anything to compare to. In Fedora 10 I did not have this problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter my cloning problems this morning were resolved, I have been able to complete conversion of the clone to run from an encrypted root partition. However, I have been unable to enable selinux when running from the encrypted root. /etc/selinux/config contains the settings that work on my unencrypted system
SELINUX=enforcing
SELINUXTYPE=targeted
and it is not disabled from the grub bootline, but the encrypted system always comes up with selinux disabled. Attempting to enable it with the command setenforce 1 fails, and to add insult to injury, the selinux administration-gui shows that it is enabled and enforcing. The cloned, now encrypted, system was cloned via rsync -aHXv, so the selinux contexts/attributes have been maintained as near as I can tell. I did have to disable selinux while performing the rsync of the /selinux directory in order to get it to copy and I am wondering if there was still some issue with this method.
I know some of you are running from encrypted root fs's and was wondering: Do you have selinux enabled and is it functioning properly? Any suggestions as to how I might jumpstart it or force it to run? Maybe I should boot into the system and uninstalling/reinstalling selinux?
This may sound a bit odd, but after installing Ubuntu Server 9.10 64-bit version, I can't seem to log in with the root account that I created. My user account works fine. I thought that I may have fat fingered the password when I created it so I ran the installer again since it takes very little time to do so. When creating the new root account password, I was very careful to type it correctly. After the install was complete, I am still unable to use the root account. I'm unable to SU from my normal user account, too. I just receive the Login incorrect error. Is there something with using root accounts with Ubuntu server that I'm missing?

Meaning they created an account called "root" and gave us a password to log in.Of course, I immediately created the admin (sudo) accounts for myself and the other administrator. However, being that we are most familiar with installing 8.04 LTS server on our own hardware, and thus set it up without root, we don't quite know how to get rid of the 'root' login, yet preserve the ability for our scripts and software to still run with root permissions.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently had three problems with SELinux: httpd_unify - SELinux prevented my web server from having write access. ftp_home_dir - SELinux prevented my virtual users from connecting to their home directory. textrel_shlib_t - SELinux prevented two separate Unreal Tournament 2.5 mods from running. The troubleshooter did not notify me of any of these problems. I finally figured out how to fix them on my own and did. CentOS had a very concise, albeit excessive SELinux troubleshooter that involved notifying you of every single problem on your server multiple times. Still, I would rather be spammed with notifications than receive none at all.
If I had not switched from a CentOS box, I would not know the chcon command to set textrel_shlib_t to my mods, as I cannot do it in the SELinux Administration without making it global. How do I fix the troubleshooter to report?
my server runs fedora 12 i686 LXDE and has an 80 gig hd.on ftp i have a high volume of files that do not fit on the 80 gig hd, however if i could somehow connect to a lan fileserver on the lan and make it accessible through the server, all my problem would be solved. how do i do this?the reason i dont attach more HD's to the server is that all my hard drives are sata and the server doesnt support this

I am in a class called Linux System Administration and we are setting up Fedora 8 as a server. Per the class instructions, I have changed the default runlevel to 3 so the system always boots to a command line. The instructions say log in with your regular user account [I KNOW HOW TO DO THIS] and use the startx command to load GNOME. [I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DO THIS]
I searched the Internet and the text book, but found nothing I could understand.
I don't think it has anything to do with the config file. More to do with SElinux. I need to know how to configure SElinux so I can see my samba share when SELinux is on. When I setenforce 0 I can seen all the files and folders set it to setenforce 1 cannot see anything.
Here is the output when I ran [root@fileserver /]# getsebool -a | grep smb
allow_smbd_anon_write --> on
smbd_disable_trans --> on
These two options were off I tried turning them on.
This is another one of the commands I tried running. I did change a few options but I am not sure which I do need to change. I am running a stand alone server so I don't need the DC option.

I'd like to have some ports automatically forward on startup and be able to add redirections on the fly. Redirection on the fly is talked about here, but I am getting lost on what should be basic instructions.[URL]
As far as startup, In the past I just ran qemu from the cli and manually specified redirection with redir. I can't figure out how to do it with The virt machine manager which I am using to start my VM's now. I do not want the guests to see the host. i configured sendmail with squirrelmail in RHEL5.3
it is working fine. i can send the mail and receive the mail .
but when i try to send the mail a selinux error is coming[but mail is sending successfully ]. i don't under stand this message.
