Software :: Evolution Problem: Not Retrieving One Particular Email From Imap Account?
Apr 27, 2011
An email was sent to my imap account 2 weeks ago. I just discovered that it's still sitting there unopened but for some reason Evolution doesn't retrieve it.I know it's still there because I can ssh in and run pine -- and there it is, still marked "N" in the INBOX.Evolution has been retrieving all my other emails with no apparent problems. Is there any way that I can "force" it to get this item, and do you have any idea as to why one particular email is being excluded when Evolution does Send/Receive?

As the title says I have an IMAP-account and I want to use it via Evolution. I have the exact same settings on both Evolution and Thunderbird but only Thunderbird sees the mails (new/old), there are 139 messages.Evolution seen none. Nothing. I looked for IMAP-related problems concerning Evolution and one thread suggested something about Inbox-folder and it's location. I don't know if it's the solution, but I didn't find any luck trying different combos in Evolution's options.

I would like to change an email account from POP3 to IMAP on an ISPConfig 2 system, I can see that the IMAP and POP3 process are both running.
I have the Maildir check box ticked for the server
Is there anything else I need to do, or is it just a case of changing the mail client from expecting POP3 to expecting IMAP?

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook edition on my Asus EEEPC and cannot add a new email account to Evolution. I'm using Evolution 2.30.3, and whenever I open "preferences" the window extends below the bottom of my screen. I'm unable to resize or move the window in order to select any of the options below the bottom.I'm sure there is a simple technique to fix this, but it is beyond this newb.

I use evolution 2.26.1 on my jaunty machine. I have a couple of gmail accounts, and use pop3 to have that mail sent to evolution on my computer. All was fine until a few days ago. Then I noticed that I was no longer getting mail from my freecycle account sent to my machine. I went to the gmail web interface and saw that freecycle mail is still being sent to me. But gmail isn't passing it along to my evolution. The odd thing is, other mail from that gmail account *is* reaching evolution okay.

I had configured a gmail account in evolution and used it successfully until recently when after a restart evolution asks me again to configure an email (Evolution setup assistant wizard) again.I already have my email configured but something must be preventing evolution to find my email account. What can I do to recover all that?My .evolution/mail folder still has all the data for example (got there some hundreds MB still). and I also have there other folders: addressbook, calendar..etc

I have several Gmail accounts. On one of my Ubuntu-running computers (Hardy) Evolution remembers the passwords. Which is a good thing, as I can't remember one of the passwords.
When I'm out and about with my netbook, I like to check my email. But I don't use Evolution on the netbook; I access the Gmail accounts via the web. And because I can't remember the password for one account, I can't check it.
Obviously, on my Hardy desktop, Evolution/Ubuntu remembers the password - so it must be stored on the computer, right? How do I get Ubuntu to tell me the password?

I've migrated a cPanel virtual server across to my Webmin server. It appears to have gone well, aside from one email account, which now cannot show its 'sent' folder in Outlook or Thunderbird. The same problem occurs in webmail.Thunderbird and webmail both advise looking at the error logs for the time and date of notification. My server is running Postfix and Dovecot. My questions are:1. Which log will likely contain information about the error and where can I find it?2. Is there a way I can verify that a mail account's folders or check that they aren't 'corrupted' in any way?

I have a free Hotmail account I still use off and on. Last time I checked, Hotmail's free service allows only POP access.I also have a desktop, laptop, and mail/file server. I'd like to view my email on both the desktop and laptop. The obvious problem is, with Hotmail's POP, the messages are downloaded and saved locally by whatever reader downloaded them.Obviously, I can't change how the Hotmail servers operate. So, with the limitation that I can't touch those servers, is anyone familiar with a method to masquerade the Hotmail account as IMAP?
I'm looking for as many ideas as I can get, but what I've considered trying is this:1. Create an email account on my local mail server2. Find a command-line utility that I can use with cron to pull the messages from Hotmail3. Store those messages in the created account above4. Configure my local mail server to handle IMAP for the created accoun5. Set up all my mail readers to use the created account for incoming mail instead of connecting directly to Hotmail6. Set up all my mail readers to use the Hotmail servers for any outgoing mail related to for that account.I'm not sure step 2 will work like I imagine. I haven't looked yet to see what utilities are available. So, before I start messing with things, I wanted to see if anyone else had some better ideas.
Or, even better, if anyone knows of someone that has tackled this problem before and has a pre-packaged solution for me to look at or install.EDIT:I read somewhere that you can configure where Thunderbird stores its mail. That would be a simple, elegant solution by having all the mail readers save and read mail from the file server. But when I went looking for that option in Thunderbird, I didn't see it. So I was either looking in the wrong place, didn't realize it when I saw it, or I'm just dense.

I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. OS version: Linux xxx2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686.PAE #1 SMP Wed Mar 3 04:57:21 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I'm sure my network is fine, I use pop3 to receive email.

I use 'quoted' style for reply emails. I want to be able to intersperse my replies within a quoted reply i.e. if the email had three paragraphs, I'd like to be able to have my replies between each of the paragraphs. At the moment, I don't seem to be able to do anything other than delete from the quoted section - I try to simulate my requirements by cutting and then 'paste quotation', but this doesn't always work as sometimes Evolution adds too many levels of '> ' .

I've seen a bunch of other posts on this topic but they haven't solved my problem. I just installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04. Love it so far. Except, I can't figure out how to setup my gmail account in Evolution so that I can see the emails on the server or download them locally. I had it working before both in 8.04 LTS and a flash drive install of UNR 9.10. I really can't figure out why it is so difficult this time.Gmail settings are/were already on IMAP - checked while logged in through browser. In Evolution, I've tried changing the account name, user name (for receiving mail), etc. and different combos of same settings. The receiving mail settings I'm using for IMAP authentication are password and save password. Security is set to SSL.Evolution tries to access the server but never asks for a password. Likely, because something is wrong with my settings. I just don't know what.

I am using Ubuntu 10.04.I always liked Evolution as a potential email client. I needed was for Evolution to automatically update the server (so if I mark a message as unread, it reflects at the server without having to wait for the 'synchronise every X minutes' to kick in).My email is with GMail. I understand Evolution implemented IMAP IDLE as of 2.30. So I tried this by using a PPA (ppa:jacob/evo230) to update. The update worked and I changed my email to IMAP+ and even checked the Use idle if the server supports it. But no auto sync occurs!

I'm on a fresh Ubuntu 9.10 x86_64 install and I'm trying to configure Evolution to grab my email from Gmail using IMAP.
For receiving mail my server is set to imap.gmail.com:993 and my user name is ___@gmail.com
I'm using SSL and the authentication type is "Password"
If I click the "Check for supported types button, the "Please wait. Querying server for a list of supported authentication mechanisms." window pops up, but it never finishes.
When I try to sync my mail, evolution doesn't ask for my password, and the send and receive mail window displays my account as "Scanning folders in "IMAP server imap.gmail.com" indefinitely.
Running Evolution from the terminal doesn't seem to print any IMAP related errors only
Code:
** (evolution:5565): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed
POP works fine, but that isn't really an option.

I'm trying to set up my gmail account with Evolution. I am trying to set up a mail client where -
1) All the mails are stored locally, so that I can work offline. When I reconnect, the client (Evolution) syncs with the server - sends emails and updates any changes.
2) All the labels/folder system to be respected and retained.
After struggling with various sites that argued Pop3 and IMAP (numerous blogs and google searches), I came across this conclusion (pls correct them if they are wrong)-
1) Pop3 allows mails to be stored locally, but will not break them up into folders.
2) IMAP will allow the folder system, but will only store the headers of mail on the local server, and the content will be downloaded as per request.
1) Will Pop3 access allow syncing between the local version and the server version? For instance, a mail read in Evolution should be marked as read when I sign into the web-interface as well.(I can always create a filter/rule that replicates gmail filters)
2) Will IMAP allow me to store all mail locally (isn't this exactly what IMAP is not!)? The combination of imap-gmail-evolution was not so successful when I tried it out - too slow!
PS: I would prefer Evolution over Thunderbird so that I can integrate the Calendar. However, if ThunderBird is the easiest solution, then it's fine too...

I am running debian testing, amd64 architecture on my box. I have 3 gmail accounts that I use regularly. I have used mainly thunderbird/icedove to access my mailboxes via imap. However, now two of them have really several tens of thousands of emails I often experience difficulties in dealing with them (the connection often freezes, browsing my folders is a pain).I tried also sylpheed and claws, but the situation has not really improved.I do not think there is anything fundamentally wrong in the way I configured my accounts on the various clients (actually, some of them even boast automatic setup of gmail accounts).

I am having trouble getting evolution to work properly with my imap server. It won't show any messages. Icedove works fine, though. I'd rather use evolution because of the calendar. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. The IMAP server is hosted by network solutions. I have screenshots of both clients. I've blacked out a few things for privacy.
Here are screenshots of evolution as configured:

I have a strange problem with evolution in Fedora 14. I run my own mail servers (Postfix and Dovecot) on localhost. This all worked great in F13 but now evolution refuses to connect to the localhost imap server. If I connect from my laptop (also F14) i.e. not from the localhost all works fine and great with evolution. I deleted all the config and started again to no avail. I also created a new user and logged in with this user and I still get the same so looks not to be user config issue.
evolution --debug=evo.debug.txt returns nothing useful.
Dovecot is listening on localhost as I can telnet to the imap port. Also other imap clients like Thunderbird work fine.

I'd like to configure Evolution (or Thunderbird) to delete Gmail messages. When I select messages and hit "Delete", the messages go to my local trash and they loose their Inbox label in Gmail. I would like that in Gmail, they loose their Inbox label and go to [Gmail]/Trash so that they'll be deleted after a month.
Could I configure the "delete" key of my keyboard to move msg to [Gmail]/Trash ? Could I configure another key to move msg to [Gmail]/Trash ?
What other solution ? Because moving to the trash is not convenient, it takes a lot of time without a key shortcut.

I want to retrieve emails from my POP3 servers to my home server. But from there, I want to be able to access them via IMAP from my other computers, i.e. desktop, laptop, phone. And then of course I want to be able to send emails from said devices via IMAP to my home server which POP3's them out to my mail servers. Basically, I have a few POP3 accounts with various hosts and I want to conveniently interact with them from lots of devices using my preferred software (i.e. Mutt, or Thunderbird on my Windows boxes). My home server is Ubuntu Server if that's relevant.

Does anyone know a way (the simple the better) to receive all the email that can be found in /var/spool/mail/user to a yahoo or gmail account?
i mean, instead of login to the server and read the messages from /var/spool/root, it will be a lot easyear and faster to found about them, if they will be sent to my email account
i know i can make the cron output be sent by email, if i place in front of the cron line something like :
MAILTO="email@something.com"
but in /var/spool/mail/ for root or other usernames you can found many other messages.
