This is kind of a double question thread and I'm hoping they can be resolved together. I'm running Debian wheezy and I modified my /etc/apt/sources.list file to include "contrib non-free" on the ends so I could install flashplugin-nonfree for Chromium. After an apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree, I notice the error of:
I tried to go to a video streaming site and I get the typical message saying I have a missing plugin. So I uninstalled flashplugin-nonfree and tried to go another route of getting the flashplayer-mozilla package from "http://www.debian-multimedia.org wheezy main non-free" hoping that might work. I installed their GPG key from here and did the apt-get update and apt-get install flashplayer-mozilla. I noticed that it would pull in tons of dependencies requiring about 250MB. I backed out of that and removed those lines from my sources.list file, trying to go the original route again. Now I'm stuck with that GPG key installed and I don't use that repository.
So my question is, how can I get flashplugin-nonfree working with Chromium, and how can I remove the key I installed from the .deb package from debian-multimedia.org?
Recently I configured sendmail configuration in Linux dedicated server purchased in godaddy. os version is centos5.4. as the configuration i can able to send mail to other domain like gmail and yahoo. thats working fine. but my problem is i can't able to receive any mails. i got like this error. 550 relay not permitted or addess rejected.
I have two machines X , Y . X is running on runlevel 5 while Y is running in runlevel 3 , I am trying to connect from machine x to y using X11 forwarding using the following command.
ssh -X username@IP
But i have the following error message.
"X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication"
On host running; $ ssh -XfC -c blowfish user@guest_IP xterm$ /usr/bin/X11/xauth: error in locking authority file /home/user/.Xauthority X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. xterm Xt error: Can't open display: localhost:10.0 (hanging here) /home/user/.Xauthority is an empty file, just created. $ sudo ls -l /home/user/.Xauthority-rw-rw-rw- 1 user user 1 2010-07-19 03:16 /home/user/.Xauthority
Nor lock exists. The password is correct. $ ssh user@guest_IP xterm I can connect the guest.
Suddenly Debian started rejecting my user pw and I have to login as root. Perhaps this is a coincidence, but this started when I re-booted after adding Russian keyboard layout in etc/default/keyboard. The Russian keyboard added successfully.
Being logged in as root, renewed the pw of my user account (actually assigned the same as wes previously), got confirmation the the pw has been changed. Reloaded. Yet it keeps complaining that the pw is wrong.
I have been having problems with a lot of my emails being marked as spam or flat out being rejected. After doing some research, it looks like they are being denied due to my HELO and EHLO replies. Here is an example of my header file:
I installed Jessie with Cinnamon alongside Win 7 - all went quite well though I did have to do a bit of guessing along the way.
Following online tutorials etc, I tried to install sudo from the terminal. It did not go well - some stuff appeared that was not shown in the instructions from many sites. So I abandoned it, or so I thought.
Then I discovered that my root password was no longer recognised. So I reset it, following online instructions.
This was successful apparently, as I can log in as root and see this in the terminal.
But on trying to start Synaptic ( and later others), I found that the new root password would is not authenticated, but my user password does authenticate successfully. This seems to be the wrong way round!
I have installed Timeshift. Administrative password is requested when I click Timeshift icon in Gnome menu. I enter the password (or paste it to be sure) but it always returns with "incorrect password, please try agian" message. I am sure that I type my password correctly.
I looked at the icon's properties. It runs "timeshift-launcher". I changed it as "gksudo timeshift" or "sudo timeshift" or "gksu timeshift", enabled "Launch in terminal", disabled, but nothing changed. Always same password request window appears and it rejects my password.
However when I run "sudo timeshift" or "gksudo timeshift" command in Terminal it accepts my password and runs.
When I run for example Synaptics via Gnome Menu, password request window is with black background and it accepts my password. However when I run Timeshift, password request window is with gray background and it rejects.
Root password was not defined in my system during installation and I am the only user. I run administrative commands via sudo without any problem.
Tried to update nonfree flashplugin on my Debian laptop, a Toshiba Satellite A100-VA3 today: update-flashplugin-nonfree --install This is the result: ERROR: sha512sum rejected install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz More information might be available at: [URL] What to do next. Is there a alternative to non-free?
I am running Postfix 2.6.1 on Suse 11.2, and am receiving an error message on my windows machine saying "Recipient address rejected: Relay access denied." If I login to my email on the local machine or via squirrelmail I have no problem sending mail. The output of postconf -n is as follows:
server:~ # postconf -n alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases biff = no
I have spent three days on this and am at my end so help would be greatly appreciated. I have a server running CentOS 5.5 and Sendmail 8.13.8. All works fine except for emails from Logwatch. I see this in the maillog:
Jul 20 07:49:24 ifsboss sendmail[1027]: o6K5aIc0000515: to=system@soswebs.co.za, ctladdr=<root@ifsboss.ifsdbn.co.za> (0/0), delay=00:13:06, xdelay=00:00:45, mailer=relay, pri=210540, relay=smtp.isdsl.net. No matter what i have done It still fails on this. To list what I have done is plenty so I thought I'd poll you experts for possible past experience that could either confirm I am on the right track, or point me to it. If I try force the mail that is stalled in the mailq I see this:

I tried moving firestarter boot script around, calling firestarter in /etc/rc.local and in gnome-sessions (start programs) and so forth. Alas, only way to get it started is from root terminal with # firestarter --start-hidden & i use wicd, wlan0 and a router. Network monitor and iptables are installed.
On the several machines on my network, I am having difficulty using ssh and sftp.
Machines are as follows:
1. a Slack machine 2.4.26 kernel
2. a Suse 10 machine 2.6.22.xxx kernel
3. a Ubuntu 9.10 machine 2.6.31.20.xxx kernel
I can use sftp/ssh between 1 and 2. in either direction - no problem.
I cannot sftp/ssh between 3 and anything. sshd is running on the ubuntu machine. I used to be able to sftp/ssh between 2 and 3 but only if 2 started the process.
The failure is machine #3 not accepting the password to or from the other machines, or at least that's how it presents.
I couldnt find any relevant threads so I created a new oneI am at my wits end sudden my encryption password is being rejected. It has worked before and it is written down I even tried loading a LiveCD hoping maybe an update screwed it up but even in the LiveCD the password isnt working. This wouldnt be such a big deal if I havent changed all my passwords and stored them in KeePass and havent got a chance to back it up yet
I am having trouble with my local ssh connection. In my hosts.deny I have ALL, and in my hosts.allow I have my computer. I cannot connect unless I comment out the ALL in hosts.deny. Why is it not allowing a connection?
I've been using the Ubuntu desktop for a couple of years now, but I don't have much experience using the terminal.
I've just set up a home server using Ubuntu-server 64bit which will be headless and its main function will be a Mythtv backend.
I've worked out how to use VNC to send a desktop from the server to my laptop, but when I try to use any programs which require root privileges such as synaptic or the user/groups manager, the pop-up asking for authentication refuses to accept my password.
Is there a setting I need to change on the server which prevents remote users from getting root privileges on the desktop?
a) User is created using our standard protocol on the NIS/YP server. b) *Sometimes* : user is rejected at first login. Password not recognized. c) When going to do a password reset, being root on the NIS/YP server something like this happens:
# passwd johndoe Changing password for user johndoe. New UNIX password: Retype new UNIX password: NIS password could not be changed. << ------------- ERROR passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully.
The entry in the log doesn't help much: Sep 15 10:56:28 nisserver rpc. yppasswdd[2149]: update johndoe (uid=31742) from host 128. xxx194. xxx.xx rejected Sep 15 10:56:28 nisserver rpc. yppasswdd[2149]: Invalid password.
Notes:
1) A valid & strong password -known to work with other account- has been given. 2) The password is indeed changed in /etc/shadow, and the NIS/YP databases update (cd /var/yp; make) has not been done yet.
I know there is a different condition when the password is updated by the user from a Fedora host (long encoding using sha512 vs original md5 encoding in the server) - but this is happening locally on the CentOS-based server before having the user change the password. But even that has worked before with dozens of users.
A recent occurrence of the issue kept rejecting the original password chosen by the user until he decided to choose a different one. I have tried different from easy to elaborate passwords with no difference. This is just happening now with two new users: one of them reported that it worked just fine, the other is being rejected - they were created at the same time.
In my SUSE 11.0 system, I had one root user and a normal user. I can play any media file in normal user account. When I login as root account and if I tried to play any media by using VLC it is giving as error like this :
VLC is not supposed to be run as root. Sorry. If you need to use real-time priorities and/or privileged TCP ports you can use vlc-wrapper (make sure it is Set-UID root first and cannot be run by non-trusted users first).
mailman configured with postfix & dovecot on the same server. Postfix & dovecot configured using iredmail script. This situation is possibly caused by dovecot LDA but I do not know how to configure it to recognize mailman lists I'm using RHEL 5.5
Here's my configs:
/etc/postfix/main.cf
Code:
alias_database = hash:/etc/postfix/aliases alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/aliases, hash:/etc/mailman/aliases allow_min_user = no biff = no
I'm a web developer so my experience in system admin in low. The issue is regarding a VPS. The VPS is used as webserver, the mail server is set to another machine. Anyway I need basic email sending functions for site contacts, alerts and so on.
I GOT IN TROUBLES WHEN I set a daily cronjob to dump a db and e-mail the sql to a gmail address, and fall in Spamhouse CBL blacklist. Before I was sending e-mail only to address of my own company (to the mail server, not locally). SO I GOT THIS PROBLEM. E-mails are rejected and the error quickly sent back to root:
Out of the blue a dialog popped up requesting that I enter the key for my home wireless network. This is of course unexpected since the correct key is defined for that network in my network config. I entered the correct key but it was rejected. I then clicked on the network manager icon in the task bar. Contrary to normal behavior this did not show either my home network or any of the other wireless networks from my neighbors. The only resolution I could find to restore the wireless network was restarting my system. This seems excessive.
i installed ubuntu on my friends laptop but when he tries to connect to his network and enters his wep key the box disappears for a few second and comes back again...The card is Atheros on a Toshiba laptop and it is detected , it finds the networks but the wep key is rejected every time without a error
What does this error message in `/var/log/auth.log` mean? It's showing up at about a rate of 1 per second. My indicator applets are missing as are my status bar icons. The desktop icons are flashing on and off at a rate of about 1 per second.
A little prior to this I installed Wine beta using Ubuntu Software Centre, then applied the multiuser wine recipe as noted here [URL] /showthread.php?t=917422&), then installed a game called ToonTalk3 [URL], and then tried to install DirectX 10 as per these instructions [URL]
The directx install stalled with a series of messages about being unable to copy certain dll files. I aborted the install, using the install wizard's abort command. It was a bit after this that I noticed the flashing symptoms. They may have been there earlier but I usually run my apps full screen so wouldn't have noticed.
I've reversed the wine multi-user configure, again using the recipe, and run `sudo apt-get purge wine1.2`, and logged off and on. The flashing and errors still occur.During logon there are bunch of indicator applet error message dialog boxes (which I'll post later after finishing this message and conducting another log off/on cycle). I'm running Ubuntu 10.4 LTS 32bit on an Acer Asper 3500 notebook. The install is about 2 weeks old.
When I run:Quote:mount -t davfs http://xxxx/webdav /home/USER1I get:Quote:Please enter the username to authenticate with serverhttp://xxxx/webdav or hit enter for none.
Username: USER1 Please enter the password to authenticate user USER1 with server http://xxxx/webdav or hit enter for none.
I have 2 laptops running Ubuntu 10.04. One connects to my Linksys wireless modem fine while the other does not. The one that does not connect, will connect fine within the instances of Windows XP SP3 and Puppy Linux 5.1 that run on the same laptop. Ubuntu wireless worked fine with version 8.04 on this laptop before upgrading to 10.04.
When trying to connect within 10.04, Ubuntu pops up the dialog box to enter the authentication key. It rejects the correct key, and after a moment, pops up the same dialog box asking for the key again. I'm using WEP 40/128-bit encryption and the key I enter in the dialog box is the correct 26-character key.
The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6000 (1g ram/40g disk). Here are some vital outputs root@user-laptop:/home/bsmis# iwconfig

Each time after boot, I have to wait for proximately 2 minutes before Firefox starts showing any web pages. I'm running ubuntu 11.04, and using firestarter for my firewall. Logging events, all good, but I'd like to be able to (tcp)dump the packets being dropped/rejected. Wireshark is great after the event, but can I hook iptables and tcpdump together somehow so the system logs the entire packet rather than the summary when it says "no"? I've had a quick look/google, but can't find anything. I'm sure somebody must have wanted to do this before - any pointers people?
PS - will keep looking and post the answer if I find one....
With opensuse11.2 I am getting following error while running openGL apps: drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -22. Kernel failed to parse or rejected command stream. See dmesg for more info. I think this is problem with radeon drivers. Is there solution to this?
My ISP has for a long time had a broken forward/reverese DNS so that my ADSL connection with static IP address resolves to a completely different IP address on a reverse query. This has not been a problem until I upgraded a remote server from 10.3 to 11.3 last weekend and now ssh connections from my ADSL connection to it using public/private keys are being rejected with the following message in /var/log/messages (IP addresses changed): Aug 10 12:00:32 penguin1 sshd[1270]: Address 83.175.246.243 maps to 83-175-246-243.static.dsl.aupex.com, but this does not map back to the address - Possible Break in Attempt!
But if I log in interactively with username & password, the connection succeeds. I've changed the StrictModes setting in sshd_config to 'no' but this hasn't resolved the problem. Obviously something in 11.3 is being stricter about this IP mismatch than it was in 10.2 (and no, the server is not using a firewall). There must be something I can change to make sshd more permissive? I've tried before to get my ISP to fix their problem but no luck. This needs to be sorted as a server at my home (which does not run SuSE) retrieves backups from the remote OpenSuSE 11.3 server every night using scp and these are now failing.
