I have downloaded the beta for Flash 10 for Linux. I unarchived the tarball and put it in my home directory. Where should I put the plugin file in order for my browsers to be able to use it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn my frustration to get adobe flash working in firefox I deleted the /usr/lib/flash-plugin folder. Now when I try to uninstall "Flash-Plugin" from YAST it fails as it can't find the sub-folder. I also cannot install the latest version of flash player as it says that it is already installed - So I am stuck in a loop.
I am running SUSE 11.2.
Is there a config file of installed programs that I can modify to remove the "Flash-Plugin" entry, or is there another way to get over this problem.
I installed Jessie with Cinnamon alongside Win 7 - all went quite well though I did have to do a bit of guessing along the way.
Following online tutorials etc, I tried to install sudo from the terminal. It did not go well - some stuff appeared that was not shown in the instructions from many sites. So I abandoned it, or so I thought.
Then I discovered that my root password was no longer recognised. So I reset it, following online instructions.
This was successful apparently, as I can log in as root and see this in the terminal.
But on trying to start Synaptic ( and later others), I found that the new root password would is not authenticated, but my user password does authenticate successfully. This seems to be the wrong way round!
I use Debian Jessie with Gnome.
I have installed Timeshift. Administrative password is requested when I click Timeshift icon in Gnome menu. I enter the password (or paste it to be sure) but it always returns with "incorrect password, please try agian" message. I am sure that I type my password correctly.
I looked at the icon's properties. It runs "timeshift-launcher". I changed it as "gksudo timeshift" or "sudo timeshift" or "gksu timeshift", enabled "Launch in terminal", disabled, but nothing changed. Always same password request window appears and it rejects my password.
However when I run "sudo timeshift" or "gksudo timeshift" command in Terminal it accepts my password and runs.
When I run for example Synaptics via Gnome Menu, password request window is with black background and it accepts my password. However when I run Timeshift, password request window is with gray background and it rejects.
Root password was not defined in my system during installation and I am the only user. I run administrative commands via sudo without any problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI dislike Iceweasel as it has older versions, so I installed Firefox 4.0.1 on my new install of Debian Sid. Downloaded the tar.bz2 package, unpacked it in opt, linked /usr/bin/firefox to /opt/firefox/firefox, figured out why it wasn't running (it needed ia32-libs-gtk), got it to run, and now it doesn't see the flash plugin.
My usual technique was to put firefox in opt, close it, then aptitude-install flashplugin-nonfree, which pulled the plugin and made it work with both Iceweasel and Firefox. But right now, only Iceweasel has the flash plugin installed.
I found libflashplayer.so in /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/; usually I'd try copying it in /opt/firefox/plugins, or ~/.mozilla/firefox/plugins, but neither of these directories exist. In fact, I can't seem to find a dedicated plugin directory anywhere firefox-related. What do I do?
I have a big problem with the flash plugin... Since a couple of weeks ..... and some internet sites with flash content don't work... sounds load and playback correctly but I see a grey square instead of the video.
One weird thing is that ..... videos work perfectly when tagged/embedded in another site, such as facebook or a gmail chat, but on the ..... official site I can't see a thing.

Although I did install the package flashplugin-nonfree, in debian that I'm a little more used to flashplugin-nonfree provided libflashplayer.so and not flashplugin-alternative.so which seem to be the one all my browsers are using. However about plugins in firefox says very little except "application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash". Can I just replace all the flashplugin-alternative.so with libflashplayer.so and maybe make some links or something or would that be bad?
The process using my CPU is reported as plugin-containe but it only happens with flash video and not any other plugins. If the video is playing, paused or stopped/not started makes no difference. I did replace all the flashplugin-alternative.so with libflashplayer.so, it didn't help. Seems firefox was using that plugin all along, presumably from here "/usr/share/ubufox/plugins/". I can't imagine I'm the only one who wants a fix for this here, there should be hordes. I use the latest kbuntu, flash player, firefox and kernel all from the repo.
Am running Maverick RC1 and when I try to install adobe-flashplugin in synaptic I get the message " Depends:libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0(>2.21.6) but this is not installable".

In any browser, ..... or other flash video's fail to load (grey square appears) other apps are not clickable. also in other apps the flash plugin just plain sucks... liferea doesn't play video's for instance, not from any source (vimeo, .....,...) since last week it just started crashing my browsers, or even freeze up the whole system, until the correct browserwindow was closed... I'm using gnome and compiz on top. Is there an alternative for the flash plugin provided by adobe? are there known issues with particular gnome or compiz settings, or any other settings for that matter?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgrade to Jessie and instead of installing Chrome from the google site I decided it was best to install Chromium from the Debian contrib and/or non-free repositories. After installing I then found that i had to install the pepperflash plugin. I find that viewing flash content ( I wanted to watch the SpaceX launch from the NASA website this morning) is almost impossible. The sound comes through okay, but the video comes through at about one frame per second. Fortunately I had Iceweasel as a backup.
Since Chromium does not support the NPAPI flash plugin, that is used by Iceweasel, are there other options? I can delete Chromium and install Chrome but I have heard there are issues with Chrome and Jessie. Perhaps I should just give up on Chrome/Chromium altogether, even though I think the web page presentation is much better with Chrome.
Things I have tried:
Uninstall and reinstall the pepperflash plugin
Changed flash settings
By the way, I don't have problems with Youtube because I receive HTML5 content from there. Maybe I should contact NASA and get them to broadcast HTML5.
after i leave firefox on for some hours (the amount of time varies between a couple of hours to a day), when i try to use flash, for example in videos, it plays the first second of the video and then goes into a sound loop of that 1 second of sound that continues even after i stop the video. it takes about 30 seconds for it to stop. at other times, if i've left a video paused in the middle and start it again after some hours, it goes through the rest of the video in just a few seconds like it is in fast forward. the sound is messed up just like in the other case.
the problem clears up completely after i restart firefox. i have tried changing the flash plugins but this usually leads to other problems. right now i'm using the default plugin file name: libflashplayer.so shockwave flash 10.1 r102 i only had this problem in debian, its been going on for months now and i have absolutely no idea what causes it to happen. it seems completely random. when i have only two or three tabs open its a slight nuisance but restarting firefox with 50 tabs open just takes too long.
I have just installed Debian "Lenny" AMD64 in my PC, but I can't find a compatible flash player for AMD64 in the adobe site, the only version I found is for i386.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSometimes in BBC iPlayer - Bigscreen the fullscreen video does not open on top, and then none of the lirc remote control commands (irxevent) function, not even Escape (nor Alt-TAB, which would bring the fullscreen on top if I used the keyboard - but sitting in the TV couch I would prefer using the remote only).
This often happens on my SuSE 10.2 partition, especially when wanting to resume a video, but never happens on my Kubuntu 9.10 partition. Both are 32-bit using KDE 4.3.5 Firefox 3.5.8 and Adobe Flash 10,0,45,2.
How can I get the fullscreen on top??
I have a Ubuntu 9.10 LiveCD (and I plan to keep using it as just a LiveCD); this works fine.
Firefox works fine too, and installing a flash player plugin is all right.
The problem appears when I reboot and see that Firefox no longer has the flash plugin installed.
So I tried making a persistent image USB stick for this, added the persistent keyword at the end of the boot options, and Firefox still forgets that it can actually play ..... videos.
The persistent image USB seems to be doing something, at least browsing through it shows several folders, for instance /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin which constains a file libflashplayer.so
It's just that Firefox doesn't seem to care. What else should I do?
Or at least that's what I figured, when watching videos from ....., etc., the sound in the left channel turns into distorted high frequency noise, anyone had the same issue? Is there a fix for this? Sound in other applications works just fine.EDIT: Oh, and I'm using the proprietary flash plugin, has worked just fine on my Ubuntu Studio on the exact same computer.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi am a proud newbie user of debian linux. the desktop i use is xfce. i have iceweasel as the web browser. it cannot access flash content like videos videos and some others because the adobe flash plugin is not installed. i've done the following without success. i downloaded flash_player_10_linux.tar from adobe's site, unpacked it to get libflashplayer.so. but under /usr/lib/iceweasel, there is no plugins folder to put it in. there is, however, a broken link called plugins. then i created a plugins folder under home/myaccount/.mozilla and pasted the libflashplayer.so file over there. i restarted iceweasel, but it cannot still detect flash content.
then i ran apt-get install of jre and downloaded all java packages. however, while installation it gave an error saying, "cannot overwrite iceweasel/plugins". this came most probably because as mentioned earlier there is no plugins folder under iceweasel to begin with. on running the about : plugins command, i get "no plugins installed". i then deleted the plugins folder from .mozilla and directly pasted the libflashplayer.so file under usr/lib/iceweasel (since it contained many other .so files). how to enable iceweasel to enable the adobe flashplayer plugin.

Even after installation also my browser is again without flash plugin.
After update of adobe plugin to version 10.1.102.64 (10.1.r102) plugin crashes if I try to switch to full screen. Previous plugin (10.1.53.64) worked perfectly well. Anybody with the same problem? My system is System76 Gazelle, Ubuntu 8.04 with all latest updates, nvidia drivers.

1. Same effect in Google Chrome, which uses its own plugin 10.1.r103
2. Same effect (both in Firefox and Chrome) on Thinkpad T41 with ubuntu 8.04
I downgraded plugin to r53 for now, but it's not a good idea, last update fixed some security issues.
