Suddenly Debian started rejecting my user pw and I have to login as root. Perhaps this is a coincidence, but this started when I re-booted after adding Russian keyboard layout in etc/default/keyboard. The Russian keyboard added successfully.
Being logged in as root, renewed the pw of my user account (actually assigned the same as wes previously), got confirmation the the pw has been changed. Reloaded. Yet it keeps complaining that the pw is wrong.

This is kind of a double question thread and I'm hoping they can be resolved together. I'm running Debian wheezy and I modified my /etc/apt/sources.list file to include "contrib non-free" on the ends so I could install flashplugin-nonfree for Chromium. After an apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree, I notice the error of:
ERROR: sha512sum rejected install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
I tried to go to a video streaming site and I get the typical message saying I have a missing plugin. So I uninstalled flashplugin-nonfree and tried to go another route of getting the flashplayer-mozilla package from "http://www.debian-multimedia.org wheezy main non-free" hoping that might work. I installed their GPG key from here and did the apt-get update and apt-get install flashplayer-mozilla. I noticed that it would pull in tons of dependencies requiring about 250MB. I backed out of that and removed those lines from my sources.list file, trying to go the original route again. Now I'm stuck with that GPG key installed and I don't use that repository.
So my question is, how can I get flashplugin-nonfree working with Chromium, and how can I remove the key I installed from the .deb package from debian-multimedia.org?

I am currently wanting to connect to an NAS unit that I have. I have installed open-iSCSI and have made the following changes to the iscsi_conf file:
Quote:
# To set a CHAP username and password for initiator
# authentication by the target(s), uncomment the following lines:
node.session.auth.username = "user"
node.session.auth.password = "12 digit pass"
[Code].....
My goal is to get the iSCSI initiator to connect after a reboot. Mounting after connecting I am sure this will be another challenge.

I have used open-iscsi for a couple of years on fedora and oracle linux, but since I use ubuntu for my desktop, web servers and mysql servers I thought I would be nice to do so on our new MySQL-server which should be connected to our Qlogic SAN. The installation went well after figuring out how to put two network cards on the same network, which seems to be the Qlogic way to do multipath. But I cannot make open-iscsi to log on automatically after reboot. Is there something different with open-iscsi on ubuntu?
Everything works if I logon and do:
iscsiadm -m node -l
multipath -v2
And then mount the volumes but if I try to put them in my fstab like:
/dev/MySQLdata/data/var/lib/mysql/ext4_netdev1 2
/dev/MySQLbackup/backup/var/mysqlbackupext4_netdev1 2

I am still extremely green, but I have been able to add my Debian Wheezy server to my Windows domain and I am able to connect to my Windows file server iSCSI target, but it does not re-connect at system startup. The nodes are set to startup automatically and are in my fstab by UUID. However, checkin dmesg as well as the syslog shows that iSCSI doesn't attempt to initiate a connection at boot.

I have spent three days on this and am at my end so help would be greatly appreciated. I have a server running CentOS 5.5 and Sendmail 8.13.8. All works fine except for emails from Logwatch. I see this in the maillog:
Jul 20 07:49:24 ifsboss sendmail[1027]: o6K5aIc0000515: to=system@soswebs.co.za, ctladdr=<root@ifsboss.ifsdbn.co.za> (0/0), delay=00:13:06, xdelay=00:00:45, mailer=relay, pri=210540, relay=smtp.isdsl.net. [196.26.208.197], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: 451-Rejected after DATA: could not verify "From:" header address
No matter what i have done It still fails on this. To list what I have done is plenty so I thought I'd poll you experts for possible past experience that could either confirm I am on the right track, or point me to it. If I try force the mail that is stalled in the mailq I see this:

For legal reasons, I may soon be required to have the ability to provide a user's emails to authorities as part of a discovery action. Not just a copy of backup.I'm running postfix with dovecot on rhel5.I'd need to be able to produce emails sent and received in a given time frame by a given user.

When I ran updates and installed 9.10, this message appeared, "Network service discovery disabled. Your current network has a .local domain, which is not recommended and incompatible with the Avahi network service discovery. The service has been disabled." The computer will not respond to anything, completely frozen--I am not able to open any programs and the CPU itself seems to be running loudly.

I set up a static IPv6 address and a gateway in /etc/network/interfaces. However, a bad router in my network environment alway send wrong ICMP router discovery messages to me. So I have got extra (wrong) IPv6 address and gateway, and the routing is confused. On Windows Servers, I can use "netsh interface ipv6 set interface "Local Area Connection" routerdiscovery=disable" to disable ICMP router discovery. But I don't know how to disable it on Ubuntu 9.10. How could I disable ICMP router discovery for IPv6?

two IP Addresses for it
A Name for the service: pd2_video
An IQN:
He enabled CHAP with a username and password.Where do I need to look to see documentation on how to connect to this service?I have tried following: [URL] However I get:

On the several machines on my network, I am having difficulty using ssh
and sftp.
Machines are as follows:
1. a Slack machine 2.4.26 kernel
2. a Suse 10 machine 2.6.22.xxx kernel
3. a Ubuntu 9.10 machine 2.6.31.20.xxx kernel
I can use sftp/ssh between 1 and 2. in either direction - no problem.
I cannot sftp/ssh between 3 and anything. sshd is running on the ubuntu machine. I used to be able to sftp/ssh between 2 and 3 but only if 2 started the process.
The failure is machine #3 not accepting the password to or from the other machines, or at least that's how it presents.
All machines can ping each other.
The configs are defaults
I only dimly understand what's going on.

I recently setup a new server that serves files over samba and is a subversion repository for a number of projects. I did a simple apt-get update/upgrade for which the system requested a reboot. After I rebooted, I got to the login prompt, at which point I ran into a problem. After I enter my correct credentials, it spits out the following error:
sh: error while loading shared libraries libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: Error 24
and returns me to the login prompt. Samba and Subversion are both still working, I simply can't login to the server either physically or via SSH.
What steps should I be taking to correct this issue? My thoughts are that I may need to use a Live CD to load the system and perhaps do another update, but before I go through that process I just wanted to check in and see if there might be some other solution.
I have tried googling the issue, and while I have seen other posts regarding shared library issues, there was never anything about not being able to login and I never did find anything specific to the error message I received.

I've been using the Ubuntu desktop for a couple of years now, but I don't have much experience using the terminal.
I've just set up a home server using Ubuntu-server 64bit which will be headless and its main function will be a Mythtv backend.
I've worked out how to use VNC to send a desktop from the server to my laptop, but when I try to use any programs which require root privileges such as synaptic or the user/groups manager, the pop-up asking for authentication refuses to accept my password.
Is there a setting I need to change on the server which prevents remote users from getting root privileges on the desktop?

this problem is becoming too frequent now:
a) User is created using our standard protocol on the NIS/YP server.
b) *Sometimes* : user is rejected at first login. Password not recognized.
c) When going to do a password reset, being root on the NIS/YP server something like this happens:
# passwd johndoe
Changing password for user johndoe.
New UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
NIS password could not be changed. << ------------- ERROR
passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully.
The entry in the log doesn't help much: Sep 15 10:56:28 nisserver rpc. yppasswdd[2149]: update johndoe (uid=31742) from host 128. xxx194. xxx.xx rejected Sep 15 10:56:28 nisserver rpc. yppasswdd[2149]: Invalid password.
Notes:
1) A valid & strong password -known to work with other account- has been given.
2) The password is indeed changed in /etc/shadow, and the NIS/YP databases update (cd /var/yp; make) has not been done yet.
I know there is a different condition when the password is updated by the user from a Fedora host (long encoding using sha512 vs original md5 encoding in the server) - but this is happening locally on the CentOS-based server before having the user change the password. But even that has worked before with dozens of users.
A recent occurrence of the issue kept rejecting the original password chosen by the user until he decided to choose a different one. I have tried different from easy to elaborate passwords with no difference. This is just happening now with two new users: one of them reported that it worked just fine, the other is being rejected - they were created at the same time.

In my SUSE 11.0 system, I had one root user and a normal user. I can play any media file in normal user account. When I login as root account and if I tried to play any media by using VLC it is giving as error like this :
VLC is not supposed to be run as root. Sorry. If you need to use real-time priorities and/or privileged TCP ports you can use vlc-wrapper (make sure it is Set-UID root first and cannot be run by non-trusted users first).

Out of the blue a dialog popped up requesting that I enter the key for my home wireless network. This is of course unexpected since the correct key is defined for that network in my network config. I entered the correct key but it was rejected. I then clicked on the network manager icon in the task bar. Contrary to normal behavior this did not show either my home network or any of the other wireless networks from my neighbors. The only resolution I could find to restore the wireless network was restarting my system. This seems excessive.
