Server :: Sendmail Error - Rejected After DATA: Could Not Verify "From:" Header Address"
Jul 20, 2010
I have spent three days on this and am at my end so help would be greatly appreciated. I have a server running CentOS 5.5 and Sendmail 8.13.8. All works fine except for emails from Logwatch. I see this in the maillog:
Jul 20 07:49:24 ifsboss sendmail[1027]: o6K5aIc0000515: to=system@soswebs.co.za, ctladdr=<root@ifsboss.ifsdbn.co.za> (0/0), delay=00:13:06, xdelay=00:00:45, mailer=relay, pri=210540, relay=smtp.isdsl.net. [196.26.208.197], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: 451-Rejected after DATA: could not verify "From:" header address
No matter what i have done It still fails on this. To list what I have done is plenty so I thought I'd poll you experts for possible past experience that could either confirm I am on the right track, or point me to it. If I try force the mail that is stalled in the mailq I see this:
Running /var/spool/mqueue/o6I22Exm009672 (sequence 1 of 1)
<gary@soswebs.co.za>,system@soswebs.co.za... Connecting to smtp.isdsl.net. via relay...

I have users [URL] unable to send email to [URL]. [URL] user also unable to send email to [URL]. But both email addresses are fine as they can receive email from others or from [URL] and [URL]. I able to telnet mail server 110 and 25, no problem. Version: ESMTP Sendmail 8.12.10
Mail Log:
Feb 23 11:36:35 mail sendmail[16228]: o1N3aZxt016215: to=<xxx1@gas.com>, ctladdr=<xxx@abc.com> (501/501), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=442918, relay=gas.com, dsn=5.1.2, stat=Host unknown (Name server: gas.com: no data known)
I am running Postfix 2.6.1 on Suse 11.2, and am receiving an error message on my windows machine saying "Recipient address rejected: Relay access denied." If I login to my email on the local machine or via squirrelmail I have no problem sending mail. The output of postconf -n is as follows:
server:~ # postconf -n alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases biff = no
I got one last stop until I've fully configured my Sendmail server. I want the server to verify which address the sender is using when sending mail. Even though authenticated via SMTP AUTH or mailing from an IP listed as RELAY in access.db, the user should not be able to use whichever address he likes.
Ideally, I would like Sendmail to use a file that looks something like this: Username sername@Server.org
where, if logged in with Username, the only accepted sender address is Username@Server.org. As of now, Sendmail just verifies that the sender domain exists and then relays which I don't like. This also applies to a lot of other servers as well... for example in the cases where ISPs have blocked outgoing port 25 and let all their users use their SMTP server. I assume, if they don't use SMTP AUTH which is not the case where I am, that they have their entire IP range listed as RELAY and therefore, using my ISPs SMTP when in their net, I can send mail as whomever I like as long as the sender domain exists.
I've had a look at filters but haven't found any suitable and I assume that this might be realised through a Ruleset or something. What do you think? Have I missed something making this a really stupid suggestion or am I on to something? It would make my day
I'm having a problem whereby I'm able to send mail to a mailbox from several different email addresses and SMTP servers (gmail, RoadRunner broadband), but I'm unable to send mail to the same address from one particular account, the SMTP server for which runs on a mediaTemple (dv) 3.0 box with CentOS 5 Final.I've spent a full workday on the forums, trying to troubleshoot the issue, and I'm running out of ideas. The server on which I'm having the mail processing problem is a mediaTemple (ve) running Ubuntu 10.04 x64 (Linux 2.6.18-028stab070.7 #1 SMP Fri Oct 1 13:53:00 MSD 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux), with ISPConfig 3. Here's how I setup the mail-related aspects of the Ubuntu box:
We use procmail to reformat and filter email messages sent from many lead capture websites where the clients enter their reply email address manually. When we receive the message at our application we send a welcome email, and receive back the Undeliverable Email message where the clients entries are invalid, but I would like to be able to kill messages with undeliverable email addresses on our mail server before they are delivered to our application.I have found discussions on filtering masqueraded addresses, but since the IP of the sending system is not related to the entered client's email address, this does not appear to help. I would think that it should be able to query the email server to identify if the address is valid.
I have a Fedora box running a domain and a sub domain. It also is the mail server running Postfix and Dovecot. I have created a new user account in the Virtual Alias.conf file and run postfix reload.
"e.g [URL] admin_company"
This new account can send mail internally and externally but cannot receive mail internally and externally. The error message internally is: 5.1.1 <admin@threadneedle.com.pg>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table
Is there any way where I can change the "from" address in the maillogs without changing the envelop sender.
We have email users using smtp-auth with multiple email accounts but authenticating against single user account. So whenever a user sends mails through our server from any one of his multiple mail accounts,I want to be able to change the "From address" to the user he is authenticating against instead of the "from address" which he supplies, in the maillogs.
We have mimedefang running on our system,I tried using things like change_envelope_sender functions, but it only changed the envelope sender and did'nt change anything in the maillogs.
I am having many mails transferred through my Sendmail server, but I want to configure only authorised email address through our server.optimize my mail server's configuration.
We installed 3 new rhel 5.5 systems yesterday; each of which are generating this error " Error: certificate verify failed" in response to a basic "yum update". From what I can gather, via a general search, this may be isolated to x86_64 -- however the references I found were specific to Satellite Server (which we are not using). Never the less, I checked the PATHs for the cert and they are correct. All of our 32 bit systems are running RHEL 5.5 and this is not a problem on any of them.
I know the who belongs to the IP address that created the file. (is there any way to verify what IP address created what file?) My concern is that it did not come from the address specified. I found this in /tmp/udp.pl.
If I send data via scp, will scp automatically verify that the received data matches the sent data? I can do it manually with md5sum, but is that necessary?
I have written C code to read data from the network using raw socket. I am printing out source/destination ip addresses and ports for packets I am interested in. For most part it decodes Source IP address correctly but sometimes the last part of the address is not correct. The destination ip address is always decoded correctly.
I installed the Centos 5.5 and after the Xen. After I put a virtual machine named VM01.Initially it worked properly, I tried everything and it worked. When rebooted, I had problems with the network.I have two network cards eth0 and eth1, but eth1 does not have any ip and I use only eth0.The error that appears is:
vif0.0: received packet with own address the source address
I intend to install cryus-sasl, procmail and sendmail for my school. After I've finished the install of cyrus-sasl and procmail, I try to install sendmail. I have config the required setting of sendmail which let it support cryus-sasl in the file sendmail/devtools/Site/site.config.m4, then I build the main program of the sendmail and created the related user account and directories. It doesn't has any error. But when I try to build the program "makemap" and "mailstats", it has the similar error which said that there are an unrecognized option '-R/usr/local/ssl/lib' and can't find -lphclient. Here are the dump screen after I type the command "sh Build install" in the directory of program "makemap":
[root@chmsmail makemap]# sh Build install Configuration: pfx=, os=Linux, rel=2.6.18-194.el5PAE, rbase=2, rroot=2.6.18-194, arch=i686, sfx=, variant=optimized Making in /usr/local/src/sendmail/obj.Linux.2.6.18-194.el5PAE.i686/makemap cc -O2 -I. -I../../sendmail -I../../include -I/opt/nph/include -I/usr/local/ssl/include - code....
Anyone can tell me what should I do to tackle the error?
I'm running sendmail 8.14 which sends out thousands of email. I'm getting several timeout error on only a few particular hosts. What I found is almost all of them are Exim 4.69
maillog shows --> timeout waiting for input from ..@xxx during client greeting
after several tries, I finally got bounce back with
--> 451 4.4.1 reply: read error from xxx.com. .. Deferred: Connection timed out with xxx.com. Message could not be delivered for X day Message will be deleted from queue
When i search though maillog with all of those error and they all seems to be running Exim and they are different mail domains.
I'm running Sendmail with SASL Authentication and STARTTLS and this error always turns up in my log, even though the server works as a charm apart from that.
Iam using centos5.i had installed qmail as MTA.when iam login through squirrel mail it gives login error invalid username or password. And then i tried with domain.
This morning it would not boot; when I tried to wake up the system, it gave me a bunch of errors, the last ones being as follows: "mount error: could not resolve address for servername: No address associated with hostname mountall: mount /media/shares [1402] terminated with status 1" I am writing this in Win 7 since I lost ubuntu. I am using ubuntu 11.04.
I am using webmin for my daily tasks. I have fedora 13, whenever I click on ''Sendmail M4 Configuration'' or Outgoing Addresses (generics)'' I get the following error message
Quote:
The Sendmail M4 configuration base directory /usr/share/sendmail-cf was not found on your system, or is not the correct directory. Maybe it has not been installed (common for packaged installs of Sendmail), or the module config is incorrect. I read documentation at sendmail.org, it seems that structure of directories for send mail has been changed in version sendmail-8.1.4 shipped with FC13. In webmin config module we have
Quote:
Sendmail M4 base directory = /usr/share/sendmail-cf
which is not there. I did a locate / sendmail-cf on the command line, it finds nothing
This is kind of a double question thread and I'm hoping they can be resolved together. I'm running Debian wheezy and I modified my /etc/apt/sources.list file to include "contrib non-free" on the ends so I could install flashplugin-nonfree for Chromium. After an apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree, I notice the error of:
I tried to go to a video streaming site and I get the typical message saying I have a missing plugin. So I uninstalled flashplugin-nonfree and tried to go another route of getting the flashplayer-mozilla package from "http://www.debian-multimedia.org wheezy main non-free" hoping that might work. I installed their GPG key from here and did the apt-get update and apt-get install flashplayer-mozilla. I noticed that it would pull in tons of dependencies requiring about 250MB. I backed out of that and removed those lines from my sources.list file, trying to go the original route again. Now I'm stuck with that GPG key installed and I don't use that repository.
So my question is, how can I get flashplugin-nonfree working with Chromium, and how can I remove the key I installed from the .deb package from debian-multimedia.org?
Recently I configured sendmail configuration in Linux dedicated server purchased in godaddy. os version is centos5.4. as the configuration i can able to send mail to other domain like gmail and yahoo. thats working fine. but my problem is i can't able to receive any mails. i got like this error. 550 relay not permitted or addess rejected.
I have two machines X , Y . X is running on runlevel 5 while Y is running in runlevel 3 , I am trying to connect from machine x to y using X11 forwarding using the following command.
ssh -X username@IP
But i have the following error message.
"X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication"
I recently modified sendmail.cf to use a third party SMTP server to send emails. It works great. But when I run sendmail from the command line, I have to specify the -C flag and force feed it the location of my sendmail.cf, or else it doesn't work.
So in other words, the following works great:
However, if I don't specify the -C flag, sendmail doesn't consider what's in the sendmail.cf and barfs:
I don't run sendmail as a daemon. I'm only using it to send emails. I know my modifications of sendmail.cf are correct because it works perfectly when I use the -C flag. I searched my disk to see if I could find another sendmail.cf on the machine and only the one in /etc/mail came up.
Why sendmail is not reading my sendmail.cf?
I'm running Sendmail version 8.14.2 on Fedora Core 8.
We're using mutt to send out a daily email through cron. The only problem is that half the people aren't getting it, because its getting rejected as coming from an invalid address. Right now its sending out as username@localhost.localdomain.
How can I change this? I found the sendmail.cf, which I believe previous people have been editing directly, which from what I read isn't the best way to configure sendmail.
