Debian Configuration :: Suspend And Hibernate Do Not Work At All

Sep 6, 2011

I've been running 6.0.2 amd64 stable since release day and recently have noticed my suspend and hibernate do not work. Normally I have transmission running and have set it to not enter sleep mode while torrents are active. However today I have not had transmission and was wanting to see if the sleep mode options would kick in. So I have set my display to "sleep when inactive for" 5 mins (this works perfect)
I have set "put computer to sleep when inactive for" 10 mins (this does not work at all)

When I try to manually test suspend my display flashes black for a few seconds but remains backlit, then asks me to log back in
When I manually go into hibernate mode my display turns off, pops back on for a second and in a terminal says something about a usb device (something failed but it happens so fast I cannot read it)

Fedora :: Hibernate Doesn't Work On Desktop

Oct 12, 2009

My desktop is a Compaq CQ5110F. It's a dual boot system and Fedora 11 resides on sda3 of hard disk (WD 3200AAJS-6).Both suspend and hibernate don't work, but the symptoms are different. For hibernate, after resume, there are some messages (??) about register errors quickly flashed on the screen, then the logon window shows but the system hangs. For suspend, I cannot wake up the system by hitting some keys on the keyboard. After I press the power button, LCD doesn't get any signal. I remember hibernate worked when I was using Fedora10, but wireless card did not automatically reconnect at that time. Also hibernate works fine for vista.

General :: Creating Suspend / Hibernate Script To Handle USB HDDs

May 26, 2011

Currently running Slackware 13.37 64-bit on a notebook and finally have suspend/hibernate after realizing that USB devices, especially USB HDDs, need to be disconnected before suspend/hibernate can work. Problem is I have 2 USB HDDs that are connected to my notebook whenever the notebook is stationary for the extra storage so I'd like to create a script that would get invoked that would stop the suspend/hibernate process if certain partitions are mounted. I know what I would like to accomplish, but I have basic scripting knowledge so I was hoping to get some assistance.

1. script would basically store a user specified string containing devices that are non-USB, ie: NONUSB="/dev/sda /dev/sdb"

2. possibly use /etc/mtab to get a list of what is currently mounted and then remove lines containing whatever is specified in $NONUSB and store those values in $USB

3. run a for loop that executes 'umount' on each token in $USB
3a. stop suspend/hibernate process if 'umount' fails at any point
3b. if 'umount' passes then suspend/hibernate

Debian Configuration :: 8.1 - Keyboard Doesn't Work On Resume From Suspend

Jun 19, 2015

I'm running Debian 8.1 KDE on a 2007 dv6 laptop. Model number is worn off. lol but the specs:

Intel i3 first gen m 330
4GB RAM
Intel (ironlake) graphics

First off, closing the lid to my laptop doesn't trigger suspend, or anything no matter what I set it to in power options.

I can suspend using "systemctl" or suspend from the "Leave" menu, but upon turning my computer back on, my touchpad and keyboard don't work.

Sometimes, my touchpad will start working after about 15 seconds, but the keyboard doesn't come back. I have to hard reset.

I have a feeling it's something to do with systemd, but I'm not super proficient in linux. Just an end user who is friendly with a terminal.

Ubuntu :: Can't Suspend Or Hibernate?

Apr 13, 2010

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. When I partitioned my HDD, I ran out of available partitions and so couldn't make a Swap Partition.I pushed on anyway, because I read here that you can create a Swap File instead of a partition that does the same thing. I've made the Swap File and it's activated (I know because during shutdown there's a message that flashes very quickly that says "Deactivating Swap [OK]".

But here's the real problem. My Ubuntu refuses to Suspend or Hibernate. The screen just goes black and the backlight stays on. Since one of the main functions of the swap file is to facilitate Suspend and Hibernate,I upgraded from 9.10 Karmic Koala, which suspended and hibernated normally.

Ubuntu :: Log Files For Suspend/hibernate?

Jan 12, 2011

which ubuntu log file records when a suspend happened?I was ssh'ing into my ubuntu box periodically yesterday, when I discovered that it was no longer reachable. On getting home last night I discovered that it was still switched on, but I think in suspend mode as moving the mouse brought it back to life. The clock however, still showed 12:15pm, which is roughly when I stopped being able to ssh to it. I'd like to see the logs to confirm this.
