Debian Configuration :: Getting Network Error - Every Time Rebooting My Server Lost My Network Config
Mar 3, 2011
I was playing with my debian server when something went totally wrong while i was editing something on my network interface,i removed those crap that i wrote and left the network interface configuration as it was
Like for example after re-editing my network interface,it was like :
As i did a network restart, i get this error saying :
There is already a pid file /var/run/dhclient.eth0.pid with pid 2802 killed old client process, removed PID file.
What is this error and how can i fix it,because every time im re booting my server i lost my network config.

Debian Testing, updated daily, running Gnome.
A week ago, a new router was installed at the office and now my system "loses" the networks printers and forces me to manually select them within Cups various times a day to be able to print. The issue was not present when the old router was in place, and all my colleagues can print without problems using their Windows machines.
This only affects printing, for Simple Scan can always communicate with the printers without problems.
The printers are two basic Epson L355 (those with ink tanks) and the "official" driver (from Open Printing) has been working perfectly since I installed Debian. The whole Cups and Avahi stack is installed, and I even added system-config-printer this week to make sure that I was not missing a package.
Because the only variable that changed is the router, there has to be something there messing with my Cups or Avahi configuration.
Note that the new router had a "vanilla" installation, where no advanced settings were touched. All connected devices (computers, mobile phones, printers, etc.) are given new IP address through DHCP every day.
Where should I start? I have already deleted and added the printers within Cups several times during the week, and the problem persists. Is the router renewing the address more often than the old one did? Can this "refresh" be delayed? Should Avahi monitor devices more often?
I guess that I could configure the router and give static IP addresses to the printers, but such a setting was not present in the old router and my computer could locate the printers without problems.

Running natios server in Debian 8? I cannot start nagios3 demon, it got following error:
Error: Check period '24x7' specified for service 'check ssh connection' on host 'testk2' is not defined anywhere!
Error: Notification period '24x7' specified for service 'check ssh connection' on host 'testk2' is not defined anywhere!
But if I commented following statement in generic-service_nagios2.cfg, it works just fine.
# check_period 24x7
# notification_period 24x7

I have a rented vserver running at Strato [URL]. It came preinstalled with Debian 7. I upgraded it to Debian 8, what seemed to run fine, all services running. The problems came up when I tried to reboot the server to test the init system. It just does not come up, I cannot ping it, nothing. I can boot into the rescue system, mount the system partitions and chroot in to the filesystem. In this state I also can run my services, including apache2 and mysql. In the syslog I find nothing about the reboot. Now I need to reboot ino the normal system. I already tried to resume to sysvinit without success.

I have the Debian Server built and IP'd. Do I just need to set up the vsftpd.conf and thats it? Right now I am just concerned with getting ftp working.

I am putting together a server and computer lab at my school for Standardized testing, and am planning on using debian for it. But first, i must prove to the school board that this is a possible and viable option, so right now it is one pc with 1 gig ram (Going to be the server for this experiment), and two others with around 512 mb ram.the problem with all this is, the computers in the lab cannot have hard drives, as there is some sort of licencing issue. So I need to be able to have these two testing computers boot from the server's hard drive.

I'm planning to use Debian as the OS for a firewall machine, which will sit between my internet connection and the rest of my computers. Now my network is all wired, no wireless whatsoever. I'm using the onboard the motherboards cat5 socket which seems to be using the VIA rhine driver and I'm also using a 3com 100MBps card.
I can list the machine spec if you want but it's nothing special, an old Athlon 64 rig with 1gb ram and an OEM motherboard, it all seems to work ok apart from the internet doesn't' seem to work. Lenny seems to detect both cards ok and I even used the net install CD and it managed to download everything using the 3com card.
The strange thing is when I'm in Lenny, I can't seem to connect. I can ping google, but when I try and view a webpage, the browser just sits there with a while screen... Could it be that using 2 network cards is confusing Debian? Right now I've only got the modem hooked up the the 3com card, and nothing connected to the onboard network card.

This may fall under the "ain't broke don't fix it" category but it's driving me nuts. I've got the Broadcom 4322 wireless adapter in my laptop and it works fine with broadcom-wl driver and kmod. However there is no ifcfg-eth1 file and the card does not show up in system-config-network.

We are having an issue where our network connection is dropping on our server. Everything was working for about a month without issues then suddenly we experienced a network outage. Here is what I found in our logs. Rebooting the machine was the only way to have everything come up.

I've been trying to understand how Linux creates the network/interfaces on a machine (been reading the Linux admin guide), but as I'm pretty new to this subject, I've got lost in the forest.
To provide with my goal:
1.) Learn about network setups on Linux
2.) Be able to maintain my own (virtual) network
3.) Configure my (virtual) network

I am *finally* getting around to rebuilding my file-sharing computer. I'll be sharing files with both Linux and Windoze machines. It's a home network, so there's nothing fancy needed. I know I have to tweak my smb.conf file until I'm satisfied with the features and security. I'm using SWAT and I'm starting with a bare-bones conf file. It's not secure but I can see the server and selected files/directories from my other Linux box.
My really dumb question is, do I have to reboot both the server and the client machines every time I change the SAMBA configuration? I thought I just had to stop and restart the SAMBA service in the SWAT software - but then the server disappears from my client. It looks like I need to reboot both machines for the client to see the server.

Last night while setting up wired & wireless connection in openSuse 11.2 Gnome version via YAST's ifup, I got wireless but lost wired connection (interface eth0). Dmesg shows that eth0 became eth1. I cannot get eth0 back. Is there any way to remedy this situation, eg. get info from the Ubuntu partition in my triple-boot laptop, without having to re-install openSUSE?

Is there a way to rerun network manager installation to determine the new LAN settings (with a print server attached)

I'm using Opensuse 11.4 updated from 11.3, update from 11.2 updated from. I'm mounting at boot time (in fstab) some shares from an opensuse 11.2 server. Mounting worked fine in 11.2, 11.3 and also in 11.4 but suddenly (maybe an automatic update?) It stopped working.... sometimes.
Sometimes they are mounted properly but sometimes they aren't. When mount fails I get a log error: "rpc.statd is not runninf but is required for remote locking. Either use '-o nolock' to keep locks local or start statd"
If I run manually (as root) mount -a the shares mount properly always, so I thought it was a problem of timing (the service starting late) so I tried to get a script to run after the network initialitation, the script does: "mount -a". But it doesn't work either.

I left the Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid installation cd I burned in the drive and rebooted the remote machine. Now I cant get it on VNC or ping it by name. But the IP it had before still replies to pings. When I check the DHCP database in Windows Server 2003, that IP's machine name is now "ubuntu", not the same as before. Does this sound like what a machine would do when that cd is left in the drive on a reboot?
