Debian :: Can't Connect Via SSH?

Mar 4, 2010

I have a problem.I just installed debian lenny on my server, a dell poweredge 1650, but SSH connections don't work.I have installed OpenSSH and sshd is running.

if I use this command:ssh -X administrator@192.168.1.112and I type a incorrect password, I do get a error (sorry, nagnagnag (you know the drill)).but with the correct password I get this:(A.K.A. nothing happens)

does anyone know any reason why this can happen?and especially, what I can do about it?

Debian Configuration :: Network - Cannot Connect To Any Other Websites And Apt Will Not Connect To Any Servers

Feb 18, 2011

I am using Squeeze and all appears OK at first... I have a DHCP lease, PING to router works, apache servering fine in and outside the network, Epiphany seems to connects to default debian.org only, BUT I cannot connect to any other websites and apt will not connect to any servers. I installed once, tried to fix problem, gave up and reinstalled and still have the same problem.

I unistalled Network Manager thinking that was the problem, but still the same issue. Is there a default firewall blocking certain connections or am I missing something I'm supposed to know about? I installed some non-free firmware in the beginning of install and all worked... and I connected fine when downloading packages during install.

Debian :: Cannot Connect To VPN Via XRDP

Aug 29, 2015

I can log into my Debian 8 Jessie XFCE server via XRDP from Windows 7 and can do everything I could normally do if I was using the machine. The only problem is the Network Manager, it states I have no connection. It doesn't display connection information, even states that there is no connection (even though I am remotely connected to it from my Windows machine, can install software and can access the Internet on the machine in question). This isn't a problem as it seems I can access anything regardless, the only thing I can not access is the Network Manager which I need access to so I can connect to my VPN.

Below is my xrdp.ini information...

Code: Select all#dark_grey=808080
#blue=08246b
#dark_blue=08246b
#white=ffffff
#red=ff0000
#green=00ff00
#background=626c72

[xrdp1]
name=sesman-Xvnc
lib=libvnc.so
username=ask
password=ask
ip=127.0.0.1
port=-1

I can access the Network Manager if I use the machine but as soon as I go headless and XRDP into it, I no longer can.

I've been racking my brain over this for days, trying to read up on as much as I can about the issue but am still struggling to find a solution. Unfortunately this must be done via a GUI.

Debian :: Connect To The Internet From CLI?

Dec 1, 2010

I recently installed Debian Squeeze from the netinstall disc. Because I use a 3G modem, I had to manually install 'pppd', 'wvdial', and their dependancies.

The problem is when I dial out. It ties it up the CLI, preventing me from running aptitude/apt-get.

Do I also have to download a desktop, and/or xorg manually too?

Debian :: Can't Connect To Samba From Outside

Jun 9, 2011

I'm trying to set up Samba on a virtual Server.

When I connect to it from itself it works fine (smbclient -L localhost). But when I try to connect to it from the outside I get rejected.

Connection to AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD failed (Error NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL)

I'm guessing this is a ports issue? That's kinda weird since I thought Debian didnt come with an firewall. And port 80 and 22 works fine.

I need to connect to a server from my home (using DameWare remote control software). You have to have static IP to connect that server, because firewall is opened only for specific IPs. I don't have static IP in my home, but I have Debian server which have. I tried to test port forwarding (to forwad myserver:1234 to google.com:80), but it does not work. Can I/how I can connect to server via my Debian server?Am I missing some fundamental information about port forwading?

Debian :: Cannot Ping Or Connect To Samba

May 31, 2010

Strange things are happening today to my pc with debian squeeze 2.6.32-3-amd64 kernel.

It can connect to internet via my wirelss rt2870 driver (Ralink, Belkin usb wireless). But I cannot ping any of my other computers in the home network (served by a Belkin N+ wireless router). Other computers can ping it.

I am also connected via ethernet directly to another desktop. Last night I can access the shared file (samba windows share) in this other computer, using ethernet (disabling wireless). Today I cannot. I cannot even ping it or any computer, or itself.

I am using network manager with this interface:

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
# The primary network interface

iface eth0 inet dhcp

Debian :: Wicd Cannot Connect To Wireless?

May 2, 2011

I recently installed wicd on a notebook with Squeeze. I can connect to the wireless network at my place. However I cannot connect at my friend's place. It timed out with the message: "Connection failed. Cannot obtain ip address."

It is a Thomson router/modem and the key is a 10 digit 64bit Hex. I did not see 64bit Hex option in wicd. So, I tried all 3 WEP options and none of them worked. We can connect to the same network with another computer with Squeeze and NM and also with Windows. This is the first time I am using wicd.

Debian :: Connect To Wireless From Terminal ?

May 14, 2011

Here is what I know.

I have a SSID name my interface is 802.11 (wlan0) my security is wpa/wpa2 and i have to enter a password.
and my IPv4 setting is automatic my wireless driver is ath5k.

I tried to read the iwconfig man page--but I don't understand it enough. Could someone provide me an example of how I would connect to my wireless.

I am using the testing operating system.

Debian :: Can't Connect To Wireless Using Live CD

Jul 29, 2011

I am trying out the Debian 6.01 Live Cd but I can't get my wireless to work. This is on an old Dell C610 laptop running Windows XP, the wireless works fine under XP. Dell TrueMobile 1150 Series Mini PCI Card (on Texas Instruments PCI-1410 cardbus control).

Here's what I have done so far. Booted Live 686. Takes a long time on this old machine but finally loads with no apparent problems. My wireless network is detected- shows up in the list - 2SAT4, along with several others in the area. I click on it, after a bit it finally comes up with the wireless authentication form, I complete this with my WPA key and hit connect. This repeats without connecting.

I then goto edit connections, and make sure the wireless "auto 2SAT4" has "infrastructure" for mode and "automatic" for MTU. It does. I also make sure the Authentication is set to "Open System".

Looking at lsmod I can see that the orinoco module seems to be loaded, I think that is what this wireless card uses.

At terminal I do a "sudo iwconfig" and see that Eth0 has no ESSID or Access Point.
I do the following:

sudo iwconfig eht0 essid 2sat4
sudo iwconfig eth0 key [WPA key number]

I then do a "sudo iwconfig" and see that Eth0 still has no ESSID or Access Point. I then do a "sudo iwlist eth0 scan" and the response is "Interface doesn't support scanning" I then do a "sudo iwlist eht0 wpakeys" and the response is there are four keys available but they are all off.

Debian Configuration :: How To Connect Wifi From CLI

Jan 7, 2014

I did a netinstall earlier today (latest version, amd64) on my Dell XPS laptop and ended up with a minimal installation because I couldn't connect to the internet. Now I'm trying to get online without a desktop environment.

I have an Intel Centrino 1030, so I downloaded and installed the firmware [URL].... with a usb, then rebooted. My searches have turned up a lot of instructions involving a utility called iwconfig and wpasuppliant, but these are apparently not installed. I don't really know much about it, but my /etc/network/interfaces file looks rather empty:

Code: Select all# The loopback interface
 auto lo
 iface lo inet loopback

Shouldn't there be something like wlan0 there? The network card does show up with lspci

I need to connect to a serial port server via /dev/tty.. . The serial port IP addresses are the server's IP address with a particular port # (10001, 10002 etc). The way this seems to work is to create a pseudo-tty and somehow link or configure it to point to the serial server's IP/port #'s.
