I need to connect to a server from my home (using DameWare remote control software). You have to have static IP to connect that server, because firewall is opened only for specific IPs. I don't have static IP in my home, but I have Debian server which have. I tried to test port forwarding (to forwad myserver:1234 to google.com:80), but it does not work. Can I/how I can connect to server via my Debian server?Am I missing some fundamental information about port forwading?
I'm a new debian user. I install a Debian in Virtualbox, and try to connect to the source list to update, but it can't connect to the server, while network and internet connection works. This is my sources.list

I recently installed Debian 8 on my other computer and wanted to install a driver for wireless. Sadly unsuccessful... So i started browsing for solutions but could not find the final answer. At the moment i need to install build-essential but it seems i can´t connect to the Debian server. And then i tried to apt-get update which was also unsuccessful.
Here is what happens: root@kustidebian:~# apt-get update Ign http://ftp.ee.debian.org testing InRelease Ign http://ppa.launchpad.net trusty InRelease Ign http://ftp.debian.org jessie-updates InRelease

I try to establish basic connection between my 2 end systems using openvpn. The problem is when i move the client files to my laptop i cant even ping the server from there. I copy paste the server commands in section 4 [URL] ....
In the client i ran the first command and changing VPNSERVER IP with 10.9.8.1 and LOCALGATEWAY IP with 192.168.1.1 which i thought that whats the server use : ROUTE_GATEWAY 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 in the server initialization process
The second command produce error device tun0 not found and when i create one using openvpn --mktun --dev tun
I get RTNETLINK answers : network is unreachable
Note : I use wireless connection in the client system (laptop). The server works good and i could ping him ( from the same machine ) but cant ping him or access the vpn server in my laptop. I also use default openvpn settings...
I am very new to Debian coming from CentOS.I am setting up a server for a customer.I can't SSH to it nor can I get to the port for the 3ware Disk Admin.I can PING the server and I can PING yahoo from the server.
I've been using Debian Squeeze for a few years now, no troubles connecting to a DHCP server in PPOE session... (DSL service) until this morning (11.29.10) when now I do (that is to say; browser, email prog., terminal, real player, etc., just won't connect). I can do dual boot, & so am in Windows XP at the moment.
I have done a minimal install of jessie stable on a 2004 laptop with openbox as the window manager. My problem is the nautilus connect-to-server returns "This file server type is not recognized" when entering sftp: or ssh: I have also tried installing Thunar with the same result. I can use cli and connect using both sftp and ssh.
I'm trying to run Debian server in our network. We have SSG5 Juniper Firewall set up to route traffic from our trusted network 192.168.50.0/24 to our DMZ 93.153.125.224/28I can connect / ping all Windows servers which are in DMZ. When I try to connect my Debian server instead of one of the server's static IP I'm unable to connect or ping to it. The server itself is able to connect to internet resolve DNS if I allow connection to our trusted network I'm able to ping or connect to any computer in trusted network but still unable to ping from trusted to DMZ. The SSG5 policy is set up to allow any connection from trust to DMZ and interface is set up to route all traffic.I have tried to trace the ping It'll go through firewall right to the interface needed but then it'll time out as like the server is not connected at all.

running debian 6.0 "Squeeze" I installed Evolution trough official debian squeeze mirrors, installed all available updates (that know off) but i still can connect to my POP3 (email) server.what does evolution need to connect to pop3 ? when use Kmail, everything works fine
I opened a thread about this issue over two months ago, I opened thread at the Gnome board for the same issue but that board is dead. I never received a reply of any sort. Well Evolution used to work for me but after some updates it stopped working. A few weeks after that another update fixed it then another update came along and of course screwed it all up. Since then I am hoping some new update will fix it but no can do.Since my trouble started Evolution was even updated to a new version 2.30.2. Evolution does not connect to my mail POP server, as a matter of fact "send & receive" and the little icon bottom left on the status bar are grayed out. I have removed gnome and evolution and reinstalled with no results.
I switched to Icedove but when I forward emails Icedove gives me a header that is 10 times longer than the contain of the email itself. I could live with that if I only send emails to family and friends but I also send professional emails. I ended up installing a copy of MS Outlook for now but I really don't like it.
I have a debian box on my home network in use as a file server. if an Apple TV would be able to connect to it to get movies and music? I suppose I'd have to install apple file sharing or something like that. Incidentally
I'm trying to install the openconnect VPN client on a server machine, Debian 7 Wheezy, and APT is trying to install a lot of dependencies. I think it's trying to install the whole desktop environment.I was searching the web but all articles are for desktop machines and nobody mentions my problem with the dependencies. I also have openconnect installed in two Gnome desktop machines without problems.
This is the output:
Code: Select all# apt-get install openconnect Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree    Reading state information... Done

I'm trying to setup PS3 media server on my new OpenSuse 11.2 and I'm being unable to connect to the PS3. The multimedia server seems to being working ok, only it has not appear on XMB.
I've been searching on PS3 Media Server forums and try a couple of solutions regarding /etc/hosts and adding full qualified domain name of server to it, but it doesn't seems to work.
I cannot use cvs within eclipse to connect to the server, but when I use cvs in terminal everything works fine.
ERROR Message: Could not connect to :extssh:hongyang@bleong.ndslab.net:/var/cvsroot: CVS communication error: org.eclipse.team.internal.ccvs.ssh2.CVSSSH2ServerConnection$SSH2IOException: Network is unreachable Network is unreachable
I am using Squeeze and all appears OK at first... I have a DHCP lease, PING to router works, apache servering fine in and outside the network, Epiphany seems to connects to default debian.org only, BUT I cannot connect to any other websites and apt will not connect to any servers. I installed once, tried to fix problem, gave up and reinstalled and still have the same problem.
I unistalled Network Manager thinking that was the problem, but still the same issue. Is there a default firewall blocking certain connections or am I missing something I'm supposed to know about? I installed some non-free firmware in the beginning of install and all worked... and I connected fine when downloading packages during install.

Just installed openldap server on a VM CentOS called 'ldapsrv', it works fine, ldapsearch returns all ldap information.
Installed openldap client on another VM CentOS called 'ldapclient1', configured it with most basic configuration, no ssl/tls etc. but ldapsearch returns error:
I am merely trying to change the port for my ssh server. However it isn't changing.I edited my ssh_config file to:
Code:
# This is the ssh client system-wide configuration file. See # ssh_config(5) for more information. This file provides defaults for[code]...
When i try to connect to my server via port 443 i get a connection refused error. However when i try to connect via port 22 it connects. Since that didn't work, i tried restarting the entire server. To restate, i changed the config file and restarted ssh then the computer, however the port didn't change.Ohh and yes my router is set to port forwarding on port 443, though it doesn't matter since I'm inside the network.
I've tried /etc/init.d/mysql start, and it actually starts, or at least, it doesn't error out. But when I do pgrep mysql I get nothing, and when I try to login with mysql -p as root, I get
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)
None of my other logins work, either, but since pgrep mysql didn't work, it's clear that MySQL just isn't running. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling mysql-server via apt-get, but I get the same thing. The logs in /var/log/syslog show this:
Apr 11 14:31:26 /etc/init.d/mysql[9774]: #007/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed Apr 11 14:31:26 /etc/init.d/mysql[9774]: error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server
I'm no expert on DHCP. My problem is that i have a CentOS 5.5 server on which i want to install a DHCP server. I have two NICs where eth0 has access to the internet and where eth1 should act as an DHCP server.
I have installed dhcpd and this is how my dhcpd.conf file looks like.
Code:
ifconfig looks like this
Code:
When i start dhcpd on eth1 i get no error messages but when i connect any devices to eth1 they don't get any IP. I cant find anything in any logs about devices trying to get an IP address. I dont have any firewall rules in iptables.
I need to setup a Linux VPN server at work for resources' sharing, I currently have a server running CentOS 5.4, and tried endless tutorials on the web, but to no avail, and can't find where the logs are kept for the VPN server to check where the error is. But all my attempts to try to connect keep failing.
