I want to try empathy in my Debian Squeeze to connect to my Yahoo Messenger. But I can't find how to add my yahoo account. All empathy shows only Jabber, Google Talk and People Nearby.
View 2 RepliesAs of today I am unable to connect to Yahoo messenger in either Empathy or Pidgin. Empathy gives its generic "network error" and Pidgin says the account is disabled, and fails to connect when I click "re-enable." I've checked the obvious things such as username and password. I was able to connect through the web messenger so my credentials are good. Also tried swapping the server with the IP address and changing the character encoding as recommended here.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi recently lost access to yahoo IM on 2 different computers (one 32-bit and one 64-bit) on both empathy and pidgin. it happened at around the same time on 2 separate machines on 2 separate networks. both gmail and msn will connect using both clients - it's only yahoo that will not connect and i've tried 2 different yahoo accounts, too...
i can still log into yahoo IM on a windows virtual machine and through the web messenger - just not using the ubuntu clients.
could there have been a recent update that may have caused this? i've also heard that yahoo in the past has changed around servers and put in measures to limit usages strictly to yahoo clients.
I am trying to setup empathy to use yahoo im. I have searched and searched and apparently I cannot find a resolution. Does this work for anyone? Is there another IM option that will? I can connect to msn without error, but for yahoo account, i just get a network error.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 5 computers, 3 of them have windows XP Pro, 1 has Ubuntu 10.04, and the other has Windows 7 Ult.On all the machines except the windows 7 machine whenever I attempt to go to yahoo.com it says "waiting for l.yimg.com" and after awhile will load without any CSS at all. When the same machines (all except for the Windows 7 one) attempt to go to Hulu.com it can connect to the website just fine, but whenever it attempt to play a video, the ad will not play, and hulu is designed to not play the video if the ad does not play. I do not have any ad blocking addons installed at all. This occurs on both chrome and firefox. And lastly the oddest problem out of them all I think is that on the same machines I can play ..... videos fine, but if i log into an account, it will not play the video.... it just shows a "spinning wheel of death."
I can also ping www.yimg.com with no package loss.On all of the machines I have reinstalled the browser and updated to the newest flash player. On one of the windows XP machines I even tried a system restore too 2 months ago, but that did not work.This all started 2 days ago, all at the same time. I would say that it is my ISP's fault or my routers, but that wouldn't make sense since my Windows 7 machine can connect fine to all the websites.
I installed pidgin 2.6.6 on fedora 13 and setup as following:
protocol: yahoo
pager server : scsa.msg.yahoo.com
port: 5050
file transfer server: filetransfer.msg.yahoo.com
file transfer port: 80
proxy: Use GNOME Proxy Setting
But I received the error:
Unable to connect to Yahoo
I tried the previous post about connecting to 66.163.181.166 or changed port but still didn't work.
However I have another computer with linux FC4 and the pidgin 2.6.2 installed on FC 4 with same configuration works.
Recently, or more specifically, yesterday, Thunderbird started telling me that the IMAP Yahoo server does not accept my password encryption. I checked in the settings, and it says it is "Normal Password". I then change it to "Encrypted Password" and then change it back after it reloads and tells me the encryption is wrong. After I change it back, it works fine for about 10 minutes, after which it tells me the encryption is wrong, even though its on "Normal Password". Mad, I delete the account and start a new one. The account manager then tells me that my password is wrong, writing something like

Seeing as I tried to do this about 50 times, I doubt I typed my password in wrong 50 times. My other account, a Gmail one with IMAP as well, works just fine. Is the IMAP address of Yahoo different now?
PS: My firewall is off. I have also installed the WebMail and the Yahoo Webmail Thunderbird Extensions.
I just recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 and I am trying to connect to IRC (freenode) using Empathy. When I try to add a new account, IRC does not show up in the list of "kind of chat account". I'll attach a screenshot of what I see. I have the telepathy-idle package installed.

I already have a ekiga.net account working in Ekiga. So i know my account is correct.
This is been going on all day. No MSN in Pidgin, and MSN on and off in Empathy. As always, I suspect Microsoft has something to do with this and wish I didn't need to use MSN. On the other hand, a laptop sitting next to me with Ubuntu connects with no problem.

View 2 Replies View RelatedNeither pidgin, aMSN, nor empathy will connect to my hotmail account, pidgin connects to xfire and gmail fine, but not to my hotmail, so i have to use ebuddy, which i don't like. The weird thing is that for a period of time it won't connect, then it works again (aMSN and empathy too) and after a while it'll stop working again. Also my buddies in hotmail usually see me offline, even though my status is set to online.
aMSN gives me: "error connecting to server" pidgin gives me: "Connection error from Notification server: Reading error"
I've problems to connect my empathy trough my office proxy. I already configure my amsn to access to my hotmail account and it works but when I try to use empathy it just doesn't connect.
View 2 Replies View Relatedjust did a clean install and update to Maverick, and found that empathy won't connect without internet connection managed by networkmanager (I'm using wvdial to connect to the internet since networkmanager doesn't recognize my modem). it keeps saying 'Offline -- No Network Connection' unless I deactivate and reactivate the account. It's kinda annoying.
for Lucid, there is a simple fix for this condition, [URL]... but now, there is no entry for empathy in gconf-editor after I did the Maverick fresh install.
is there anybody have the same problem and know the solution? I can just install pidgin, but I think it is better to not having redundant apps installed.
Empathy used to work perfectly, it would connect to my account well. Now, for some reason, it just stays connecting with the little rolling circle thing next to the status. My account works on Pidgin though.. What could this be?

it shows "connecting..." n continues to show this for a long time untill it finally show that its unable to connect.
I'm trying to connect to freenode using my Empathy but it always gives me network error (on chat.freenode.net and irc.freenode.net). My system is showing the message below on boot up, but I don't know why? I have had to disable the 3D video acceleration with a Yaboot parameter "nouveau.noaccel=1' to get the system to load KDE.
