So I'm playing around w/ some Cisco equipment and needed a quick tftp server. Go to command line and type yum install tftp-server. I get No Package available! I can clearly see it here on the i386 repo. Any ideas?? In the meantime, I'm just going to upgrade this lil 600m laptop to CentOS 6 to quickly solve the problem but I thought it was curious.

When I try to pxe boot a Sun X4100 (which actually has a RHEL OS on it right now) I get the message TFTP open timeout. All traffic is allowed for port 69 udp in both directions. I do get a dhcp address. I see that both on the server and the client it gets an IP. After that I get this message in the logs:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have tftp-server running on Centos 5. Clients which are on the same subnet as the server are able to get and put without problems. I have a client that is across the internet that is having trouble getting files from my tftp server. A tcpdump reveals that the client is requesting the same file over and over again. In /var/log/messages, I am see the following error repeated over and over until the client finally gives up.

I'm trying to setup a network boot server and I'm having an issue with tftp. In the /etc/xinetd.d/tftp file, I added the "-v" (verbose) option to the server arg line so that i could figure out what was happening. When i looked at the /var/log/messages log file, it let me know that permission was denied to /tftpboot/nbi_img.
So, in short, my problem is that tftp isn't working because it doesn't have permission to /tftpboot/nbi_img. I can't figure out why. I stumbled upon a site where the user figured out a temporary fix to this issue and what he did was disabled the xinetd service and typed the following command:/usr/sbin/in.tftpd -l -v -v -s /tftpboot/nbi_imgWhen I do this as well, it works! but only until I restart and then I have to do that again. Is there a way to be able to fix that for good?
I am trying to wade through the semanage jungle to get permissions for a tftp client. I followed the HowTos [URL] but I get the following at the client:

I finally figured out that the firewall directives shown at the end of the HowTo refer to semanage although the options are stated incorrectly according to the man page for semanage. I did insure that the file hello.o4 in /tftpboot has read permission for everybody.
I have been given a "gift" of a Netfinity 5100 that currently has that other M$ operating system on it. I want to configure it as closely as possible to my web server located in Chicago that uses CentOS 5.5. and use it as a "test server".
This is daunting for me as I've only been involved with Linux for less than 6 months. I have Ubuntu 10.10 on my desktop PC.
The person who gave it to me indicated that I should plug it in and let the 2 arrays charge for 24 hours. I'm doing that. I also have had an electrician install a clean new 20 amp circuit for it. And I have downloaded and created a CentOS 5.5 i386 Live CD.
OK ... we've now exhausted my realm of knowledge. Can anyone give me a broad scope of what needs to be done? I will try to plug in the specifics of each step as I progress.
A assume I plug in a keyboard and screen to it. Do I use an ethernet connection between the server and my router to provide broadband ... what steps are necessary to configure that? Do I need to download and install Apache and MySQL .. if so, where?
Anyone know what version of spam assassin is newer 3.3.1-3 or 3.3.1-52 I would assume 52 is newer but I don't know if once it reaches 99 it going to 2 Example 3.3.1-99 ---- 3.3.1-2 -----3.3.1-21 and so on. I could be completely off but can anyone just clarify if 3.3.1-3 is newer or older than 3.3.1.52
(On a side note does anyone know the difference between spamassassin-3.3.1-3.el5.rfx.i386.rpm and spamassassin-3.3.1-3.el5.rf.i386.rpm?? What does the X mean?) I looked at the release date of .52 and it seems to be in march 2010 whereas .1-3 seems to be in november. oes that seem correct? Does anyone have a direct download to spamassassin-3.3.1-3el5.rf.i386.rpm???

When I boot, I get to the splash screen and it doesn't go into the default selection.
Could this be a Hardware thingy? The reason I ask is because I've had this issue happening with 5.2 on the same machine. I just formatted it completely and installed a fresh 5.3 i386 on it and I get the same behavior.

how can i update php to the latest version from the testing repo via USB ? my machine has no internet access and no cdrom, my only choice is via USB, i have a 2 gb USB.
edit: i am trying to follow this guide: [URL] since i have no internet access, i have downloaded all files to my USB stick. i added the testing repo manually. is there a way to instruct centos to update these packages from my usb stick ? since i have them on USB, i can upload them on centos.
I have never had the packaged vsftpd start with the ssl_enable option set to YES. The mysql on those servers works just fine with SSL enabled. After reading there seems to be a different package available on rh5 repo. This server shows up to date with 2.0.5-12.el5_3.1. The rh5 list shows 2.0.5-16_el5 per this:[URL].. My question is, is there a set lead time till adoption of current RH packages or is just random? I have to have SSL_ftp running and didn't want to step out of the repo lists if possible.

I'm in the process of creating local repos for our company servers (CentOS 5.5) and laptops (Fedora 13). And while the CentOS part went perfect the Fedora part is causing major trouble.But first things first, here's the setup: a central CentOS 5.5 server is running Apache2 and has a VirtualHost listening on Port 8080 for both CentOS and Fedora. The DocumentRoot for this VirtualHost is /data/repo wherein two directories, centos and fedora, reside.
This is the .repo-file for CentOS that works like a charm:

I have built the linux-image deb using uclibc as cross compiler but I failed to install the package to the root file system on my CF card. It shows the following ERROR message :

Is there a trick to allowing a TFTP connection to create a file? I can successfully tftfp (from a cisco router) if I touch the file first, but otherwise, (/tftpboot has been chmoded to 777) I get [TFTP: error code 2 received - 20334]

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem installing CentOS 5.5 over lan. I set up a dhcp3 server and it works, client got an ip. I set up a tftpd-hpa server and it works, client can boot the install image of CentOS 5.5 I set up an apache server and it seems to be impossible... In the installation marathon I clicked through the menu to the choice of the web server where my installation files are available. I enter the ip 192.168.138.1 and the path CentOS-5.5 and CentOS tells me "Unable to retrieve http://192.168.138.1//CentOS-5.5/images/stage2.img" . Thats right because the two slashes are not right. Where the hell come the two slashes from???

I have been using SLES 10 SP1 so far with about 6TB Raid system without problems.I have upgraded the OS to CentOS 5.3 i386 and I have noticed the kernel can not recognize raid system larger than 2TB.Is there any parameters that I have to set ? or the i386 distribution simply does not support larger raid, so I have to use x86_64 version, instead?

Is there some way using yum or rpm to find out which repo the installed package came from? I know Smart PM shows this info, but it has been hanging on Centos 5.5, for some strange reason, so that's not really an option for now.

And like i didnt get any errors or anything when typing the commands on the terminal but basically every time i try to test it i never works sooo im not really sure how im suppose to do this. basically i have a tftp in one ip address. And with another system with a different ip address using the client tftp ipaddr(server) and i try to get foo and it never connects and I tried a ping and they ping together just fine soo im just not sure if the tftp server is even on
