I have been using SLES 10 SP1 so far with about 6TB Raid system without problems.I have upgraded the OS to CentOS 5.3 i386 and I have noticed the kernel can not recognize raid system larger than 2TB.Is there any parameters that I have to set ? or the i386 distribution simply does not support larger raid, so I have to use x86_64 version, instead?

Is this correct or I am doing something wrong. I am reluctant to try another mirror because I guess they all will point to the same file.
I try to set up a 5 nodes cluster and a shared Coraid Storage with conga but it fails with "Shared Storage Support" checked.The message is:'A problem occurred when installing packages: Packages of set "Clustered Storage" are not present in available repository' and it is shown under every node on the next sceen after I submit.The pc where conga runs is on the same subnet (192.168.xxx.xxx) and it has the same /etc/hosts of the other nodes.In that pc runs a proxy too and the nodes go out through it (that pc has 2 NICs)Every node (2.6.18-128.1.14.el5-xen-x86_64) is patched whith the last yum update (this morning) the same is for the pc (2.6.18-128.1.14.el5).Every node has 4 NICs , 2 NICc towards the storage the others in bonding towards the WAN.Every node is exactly alike, they have been installed with the ks.cfg generated from the first node and they all have the support for Clustering, Virtualization, and Clustered Storage.

I am very happy with OpenVZ other than the fact that it doesn't support Windows, only Linux.I'd like to have VMWare Server 2.x installed, but it appears that OpenVZ changes the Kernel to, in my case, 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.028stab069.6. The default kernel on my system is 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.i386.If I change grub to load 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.i386, VMWare will work but OpenVZ will not. If I change grub to load 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.028stab069.6, OpenVZ will work, but VMWare will not.If I try to run /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl while in the 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.028stab069.6 kernel, I get an error of:

I have a CentOS 5 based Linux system with a 3Ware 9550SU RAID card and four 500GB drives set up in a RAID5 array (3 in the array and 1 hot spare).
I want to 'replace' these drives with four 2TB drives without data loss. My server case has a total of 8 drive bays all hot-swap and all attached to the RAID card, this means I have four empty drive bays on the RAID card.
One thought is to put the four new 2TB drives in the empty drive bays, configure them in a new RAID5 array. Then the question is now to I "mirror" the original RAID5 array over to the new one?
This is just a thought though, I am not sure it will work. In short my question to this forum is how do I accomplish this upgrade?.
Will Redhat support CentOS under any circumstances? I have heard at my employer that if you setup you system with CentOS and then on down the line you find you need RHEL support that you can purchase a license from Redhat and they will support your CentOS installation.Is that an official policy at Redhat? View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had a Supermicro X7DCL-3 motherboard based machine, running CentOS 5.2 x86_64, recently upgraded to 5.3.Strangely enough, although I must have installed the 5.2 using DVD disk, the running system does not show the DVD drive. The machine was not used very much so I noticed that only today, after the update. There is no trace of it in 'dmesg', thera are no /dev/cd* and/or /dev/dvd* devices. The IDE controller is IT8213 (as shown by 'lspci'). In 5.2 kernel (2.6.18-92.el5-x86_64) lspci says "unknown device". I have checked the /usr/src/kernels/*/.config files and both kernels (5.2 and 2.6.18-128.el5-x86_64 of 5.3) seam to have the support for that controller added into the kernel:CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IT821X=yAny idea why it is not working? The Supermicro has apparently noticed this also as their OS compatibility chart lists the IDE interface for that motherboard as supported up to RHEL 5.1 but not for 5.2.

If I connect the device I can see it being connected by watching /var/log/messages. Also the device is mentionned in /proc/bus/usb/devices. But when I do lsusb the device isn't showing up and it should be showing up! If it is not listed with lsusb, I can't connect to it through the k8055 executable...

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter yum installed me fuse-ntfs-3g-2009.11.14-1.el5.rf.i386 I noticed that on one NTFS partition directories created by a normal user were writable only by root, although the user's umask was correct (0022; actually the files had root as group owner).I have a second partition mounted with exactly the same options in /etc/fstab where this problem did not occur.

I have been given a "gift" of a Netfinity 5100 that currently has that other M$ operating system on it. I want to configure it as closely as possible to my web server located in Chicago that uses CentOS 5.5. and use it as a "test server".
This is daunting for me as I've only been involved with Linux for less than 6 months. I have Ubuntu 10.10 on my desktop PC.
The person who gave it to me indicated that I should plug it in and let the 2 arrays charge for 24 hours. I'm doing that. I also have had an electrician install a clean new 20 amp circuit for it. And I have downloaded and created a CentOS 5.5 i386 Live CD.

Currently I install from the standard x86_64 iso, then go and remove the i386 rpm's with all the attendant problems and impact on docs etc. Has anybody tried this? Is it as simple as just deleting *i386.rpm and then building another .iso from the resultant installation tree?

However, for some reason it installed many i386 packages - these were exact duplicates of installed x86_64 packages.Is this typical? How do I prevent this on future installs? If I left them installed, could this have caused a problem in the future? Due to my fastidious nature, I used yum extender to uncheck every duplicate i386 package and uninstalled them. This took some time. I am still not proficient with yum directly so I am wondering if there is a command to uninstall all i386 packages quickly.
