I am new to Xen Hypervisor and wanted to know if someone has any good guides to configuring it please. Also once i configure a Guest OS how can i connect to it remotely via a windows and linux machine?
View 1 RepliesI remember it being really easy to add a printer attached to another computer using Ubuntu, but I don't remember exactly what made it so easy. All I know is that now that I have switched to Kubuntu the process has become much harder because now I have to find out some special locations, numbers etc. for it to connect to the printer. It's connected to a Windows XP machine on the other side of the house.
It says alot about 'contacting the network administrator' if I am unsure about what to put in. But I am more or less the network administrator. how to find out what numbers to put in so that my Linux machine can connect and print to the Windows machine? Or maybe someone knows a few commands to share? I go to Applications > Settings > System settings, Printer configuration, New Printer, New Network printer, and then there are a few options but I don't know which one to choose. Windows Printer via Samba, I guess? Then in the box that says smb://[enter stuff here] I need to put in info but I don't know how to find that info.
I can ssh to the server but it wont allow me edit files, even though I have basic text editors like gedit and notepad installed on my windows computer. Anyone have an idea what the problem is? (I get an error message like this-(gedit:23978): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been looking for a way to use my laptop (running Ubuntu) to help service a remote laptop (running Windows XP). I've used TeamViewer and Cisco's VPN Client before, but TeamViewer is Windows only, and I don't want to pay for a Cisco system just to help maintain my friend's computer.
Ideally, I'm looking for something similar to the programs listed above, but I really just want to know if any of you have done this before, and if so, how?
I have been trying to shutdown a remote XP machine but cannot get it to budge. I did the following on the Windows box:
Ensured no firewall
Started Remote Registry Editing service
Shared a network drive (to enable file sharing?)
Created a user 'shutdown' specifically for shutting down
Added 'shutdown' to Administrators group
Added 'shutdown' to the list of allowed shutdown users in gpedit.msc
Here's what I have tried:
From Windows 7 box:
shutdown -m computer (Access denied message)
psshutdown -m computer (Access denied message)
runas /user:computershutdown "cmd /K shutdown -m computer (access denied)
runas /user:shutdown "cmd /K shutdown -m computer (access denied)
From Linux box:
net rpc shutdown -I computer -U user%password (says shutdown succeeded) rpcclient -I x.x.x.x -c shutdown -U user (gives usage message)
I just succesfully installed Centos 5.5 64bit with following package:
- httpd 2.2.3-43
- php-mysql 5.1.6-27
- mysql 5.0.77-4
and all these packages are running ok.
My question is how do i connect from Centos to another MSSQL server using PHP? I had read several article but cannot find the best way to achieve this because most of the instruction seems to be quite complicated. I found somewhere in this forum that all it need just this simple command: "yum --enablerepo=extras install php-mssql freetds". While others article said that i need to install "FreeTDS" and some ODBC driver. I'm a little bit curious since most of that article are using an older version of Centos and PHP.
I have a duo core HP machine with two (2) physical hard drives.Drive C has the win Vista Media center version installed.The second drive has 2 partitions of 500gb each.One has all my windows data files on it and the second partition I have reserverd for the installation of Linux.How to install Linux on the second partition (SDB1) without loosing the ability to use windows when i need.In other words i want to establish a dual boot system and not disturb the existing windows installation by installing Linux and then be able to boot into a dual boot system that will let me select which OS to boot to.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to share folders between my laptop and desktop. The desktop runs Ubuntu 10 ,and the laptop I'm dual-booting between pclinux OS and another OS. I can't see either machine from either machine. The desktop shows a "windows network" when I go to the network location in file manager. When I run PC Linux, I can't even see the desktop which runs Linux as well, and I've tried to configure shares in the PC Linux OS Control Center, but I obviously failed. I installed gshare on the Ubuntu machine, and PC Linux has GUI tools(whew!) to configure NFS, SMB, and Deb-whatever the other one's name is. As a new convert, I've went into properties,permissions, because it's what I'm familiar with. I just wish someone would tell me if I should maybe just go back to the other OS or not, as I've had so many problems every since trying the switch. I really like this system, but it seems as if you need to be some kind of computer programmer or something to be able to do the most basic things (install software,wireless,share files). I'm not a stupid person, and what I lack in knowledge, I compensate for in desire to learn.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Debian 8 with VBoxGuestAdditions (4.3.18). I can connect to this box from Win7 using RDP (mstsc.exe). When I connect from Windows 10 using mstsc.exe I've got error code 2308. I tried NoMachine, 2XClient, RoyalTS none worked.
W10 connecting with RDP to Linux server? If I would install xrdp onto the Linux server would it work for me?
Is it possible to connect from Win10 to Linux using RDP?
I have two machines, one has XP service pack2, second one has CentOS 5.3 (Linux), they are connected through crossover cable. I have configured everything fine but don't know why till now can't ping!
A. Windows machine settings as follows:
IP Address: 192.168.1.3
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gatway: 192.168.1.1
+ Firewall is turned OFF.
B. For Linux machine, I will list everything stored in network files, logged as [root@localhost ~]# :

I mean I assigned the IP: 192.168.1.4 to Linux machine (Eth0). I did everything above and can't ping till now, when pinging from windows or Linux I get a message "destination host unreachable" restarted Linux many times but same result. NETWORK CABLE is working fine I tested it.
I installed a new squeeze serverXen Hypervisor runs the server as Dom0 anda virtual Windows XP.The server runs samba, postfix, dovecot, squid, cups and hylafax with a Frritz ISDN card (module fcpci.ko).The used memory of Dom0 rises slowly (about 5MB /h) until the system crashes.As a workaround i installed a reboot every 24 hours.htop shows normal behavior.The system is already in production, so i can't stop services to track this bug.I need some hints how to debug the running system to find out, where the memory gets lots.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am used to using Ubuntu Desktop edition (Lucid Lynx to be exact), so I downloaded Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook edition for my little Acer Aspire One. One problem though. The places menu isn't there anymore.
How do I connect to a windows machine share? I tried searching the forums, but they all mention using Places > Connect To Server.
I have two machines in different location, lets say machine A and machine B.
Machine A:
- Linux Red Hat OS.
- Has internet connection (no proxy).
- Has public IP.
Machine B:
- Windows XP OS.
- Has internet connection (with HTTP proxy).
- Has connection to machine C and machine D. Machine C and D don't have internet connection, but machine B can connect to those machines because machine B, C, and D are located in the same network.
I need to connect machine C and D via machine A. I heard it can be done using ssh between A and B, but I don't know the details.
Trying to setup Samba for the first time and am unable to connect to the share from my Windows machine. It is a very basic setup, just trying to setup a single share to use a backup location for my windows files.
I've done the following:
1. Fresh install if fedora 15
2. installed samba
rpm -qa | grep samba
gives the following:

3. Used samba server configuration to setup the share and create the samba users
4. When I tried to connect from my windows machine I get the error that the server is not accessible, you might not have permission to use this network resource or I get the error "windows cannot access server, check spelling and try again.
Both computers can ping each other. I opened samba ports in the linux firewall and tried to connect again: same error Disabled firewall all together and have the same error. Here is the output from the testparm command

I have a fresh install of CentOS 5.5. I am trying to browse to the Windows machines on my network (Places > Network Servers > Windows Network), but I get a blank window. I am able to ping the Windows machines using their IP address, but not by their name. What do I need to do to be able to see the Windows machines and also to connect to shared folders on these machines? So far I have tried starting SMB (via System > Administration > Server Settings > Services). I have also tried changing my smb workgroup to "WORKGROUP" (the default was mygroup which did not match my Windows machines.

I downloaded the latest version of it and installed it onto a brand new machine in my office. Is there a website out there that I can use as a guide for all of the Linux commands. I know that if I wanted to I could just learn my way around the gui, but I want to REALLY learn Linux. I also want to be able to telnet into the machine so that I can access it remotely. How can I set that up? I installed Fedora with all of the default settings and didn't change anything.

They are going through my router and I am using the same username/passwords for both machines and I have even gone to the point of allowing access to everyone for the share I created and the worgroup in samba is MSHOME just like my XP machine. When I view (or search) my workgroup computers my Linux machine shows up and so do the shares I created but when I try to open them I just get a message that permission is denied and I may not have permission to use this resource. I even tried setting access to the shared folder to 777 but still I can't open this share. Has anyone got any idea of why this is?
