Debian Configuration :: Connect To Linux Using RDP From Windows 10

Dec 23, 2015

I have Debian 8 with VBoxGuestAdditions (4.3.18). I can connect to this box from Win7 using RDP (mstsc.exe). When I connect from Windows 10 using mstsc.exe I've got error code 2308. I tried NoMachine, 2XClient, RoyalTS none worked.

W10 connecting with RDP to Linux server? If I would install xrdp onto the Linux server would it work for me?

Is it possible to connect from Win10 to Linux using RDP?

Debian Configuration :: Connect Jessie To Windows Share - Network And CIFS

Dec 4, 2015

I try to connect my Debian Jessie to my Windows share

This is what I have done:

-> 1 - create an .smbcredentials file located in my /home directory (with account / password and domain)
-> 2 - implement /etc/fstab with information like that :
//192.168.x.x/Animes/media/Animes cifs uid=toto,dir_mode=0777,file_mode=0777,credentials=/home/.smbcredentials,iocharset=utf800

and when I try to go on my windows share, I have this message:

An error occurred while accessing 'Home', the system responded: mount: only root can mount //192.168.x.x/Audio-Video-01 on /media/Audio-Video-01

I think about one thing, if uid=toto is different in fstab than my current debian account session name, it is possible the problem came because of that?

(fstab, uid=toto and current session titi)

Debian Configuration :: How To Modify Traffic Between Two Interfaces In Linux

Aug 8, 2015

I have a laptop connected to internet via wlan0. I also have eth0 interface and with it I share internet. I want to modify/filter all the traffic passing by the first laptop, something like this:

Code: Select all                    *---------------------------*
                    |        LAPTOP 1           |      *--------------* ?
                    |-----*    *------*    *----*      |              |
    INTERNET<------>|wlan0|<-->|MY_APP|<-->|eth0|<---->|ANOTHER LAPTOP|
                    |-----*    *------*    *----|      |              |
                    *---------------------------*      *--------------*

I know that in FreeBSD it is possible to use ipfw for that purpose, because it build-in into kernel. We set for example rule Code: Select allipfw add divert 2000 ip from any to 1.0.1.1

and we can use our own application to process those packets, reinject them forward etc. It will work also fast, because as I said, it build into kernel.

Is there any standart Linux-based solution to do the same? I found some info about netmap-ipfw. Is this a correct solution? Or I have to use for example IP-aliases and iptables to do that?

I need to process all the IP-packets, not only TCP/UDP/etc-protocol. Solution also must be very fast.

Debian Configuration :: Rsync From Linux Server To Planet NAS

Jan 5, 2016

After hours of struggles I'm still not able to configure a simple backup from a Debian Jessie server to a Planet branded NAS.

Configuration is as follows:
NAS
user name: user
pass: user12
share name: user. Inside that directory, there is bkp directory where stuff should go. bkp was created using Dolphin.
The NAS offers smb service and is accessible through Dolphin file manager and from Windows stations.

Server also has a user named "user" and a password "1"..

Fstab looks like this:
//192.168.2.3/user /mnt/NAS cifs username=user,password=user12,iocharset=utf8 0 0

The command is: Code: Select allrsync -ahv /home/user/Desktop/ /mnt/NAS/bkp/

Errors are: Code: Select allrsync: chgrp "/mnt/NAS/bkp/." failed: Operation not permitted (1)
and
Code: Select allrsync: mkstemp "/mnt/NAS/bkp/.teszt.YEmVM3" failed: Operation not permitted (1) where teszt is a file created by me and YEmVM3 seems to be randomly generated character string.

Debian Configuration :: Network - Cannot Connect To Any Other Websites And Apt Will Not Connect To Any Servers

Feb 18, 2011

I am using Squeeze and all appears OK at first... I have a DHCP lease, PING to router works, apache servering fine in and outside the network, Epiphany seems to connects to default debian.org only, BUT I cannot connect to any other websites and apt will not connect to any servers. I installed once, tried to fix problem, gave up and reinstalled and still have the same problem.

I unistalled Network Manager thinking that was the problem, but still the same issue. Is there a default firewall blocking certain connections or am I missing something I'm supposed to know about? I installed some non-free firmware in the beginning of install and all worked... and I connected fine when downloading packages during install.

Ubuntu :: Numbers To Put In Linux Machine Can Connect / Print To Windows Machine?

Apr 16, 2011

I remember it being really easy to add a printer attached to another computer using Ubuntu, but I don't remember exactly what made it so easy. All I know is that now that I have switched to Kubuntu the process has become much harder because now I have to find out some special locations, numbers etc. for it to connect to the printer. It's connected to a Windows XP machine on the other side of the house.
It says alot about 'contacting the network administrator' if I am unsure about what to put in. But I am more or less the network administrator. how to find out what numbers to put in so that my Linux machine can connect and print to the Windows machine? Or maybe someone knows a few commands to share? I go to Applications > Settings > System settings, Printer configuration, New Printer, New Network printer, and then there are a few options but I don't know which one to choose. Windows Printer via Samba, I guess? Then in the box that says smb://[enter stuff here] I need to put in info but I don't know how to find that info.

Debian :: Using The Same NTFS Partition For Linux And Windows Files

Apr 15, 2015

I have installed Debian as a second OS alongside Win XP, and now I have Win XP on C drive (if viewed from XP), NTFS, my data files (mainly texts and graphics) on D drive (NTSF), and Debian on ext3. Debian sees and opens files on D.

1. If I read-write from-on this D partition from both OSes, is there a chance the data will be corrupted?
2. If I open a Windows-created TXT, GIF, JPG, HTML or other not-proprietary format file from Debian, edit it and save (just SAVE, not SAVE AS) - will this file remain readable from Windows?

Debian Installation :: Dual Boot Windows And Linux Partitions

Dec 28, 2015

I have Windows 10 and Deb 8 dual boot, and I need to re-install Windows but want to avoid (or at least plan for) losing Grub/Linux boot.

Last time I re-installed Windows after Linux I ended up having to re-install Linux again afterwards as well, because I couldn't recover it (seemingly due to complications from encryption). So this time I'm wanting to plan and avoid that.

CURRENT DISK PARTITIONS:

Code: Select allsda1  |  550M   |  EFI System
sda2  |  128M   |  Microsoft reserved
sda3  |  175.8G |  Microsoft basic data
sda4  |  286M   |  Linux filesystem (Boot)
sda5  |  28.2G  |  Linux filesystem (Root)
sda6  |  91.3G  |  Linux filesystem (Home)
sda7  |  1.9G   |  Linux swap

[Code] ....

As there is a "Microsoft Reserved" partition and a separate Microsoft directory within the EFI partition, if I just go ahead and reinstall Windows will it install it's boot loader/image to one of it's own partitions? And NOT affect anything else like Grub and other Linux things?

Logic tells me yes, but there seems to be many issues on the internet about installing Windows after Linux.

My primary concern is whatever happens with Windows or anything to do with dual loading etc, is that Linux will still just boot, or I can get it working again without much hassle.

Why is there a reserved Microsoft partition AND a Microsoft directory in the EFI partition? Which one boots Windows?

Why is there a separate Linux Boot partition AND a Linux directory in the EFI partition? Which one boots Linux? Where is Grub invoked from, is one redundant, etc?

How these work. It is possible I've set them up wrong, or with redundant partitions, but both systems have been booting ok for months.

I have an Intel Centrino 1030, so I downloaded and installed the firmware [URL].... with a usb, then rebooted. My searches have turned up a lot of instructions involving a utility called iwconfig and wpasuppliant, but these are apparently not installed. I don't really know much about it, but my /etc/network/interfaces file looks rather empty:

Code: Select all# The loopback interface
 auto lo
 iface lo inet loopback

Shouldn't there be something like wlan0 there? The network card does show up with lspci

Debian Configuration :: Connect To A Account Through SMB?

Jun 3, 2011

I am trying to connect to a Debian account through SMB. So far I havn't had any luck and from what I have read online, without Windows 7 registry modifications, I won't get anywhere either. I have tried two main configurations on in the smb.conf. The first method was to use 'security = share' and submit the username and password on the created share. That didn't work. The second method was to use 'security = user' and authenticate to the entire smb server. That didn't work either.

I am unsure what username/password I have to enter. I am using the accounts credentials, but it isn't letting me connect with those. It also wants me to use a domain (something like 'LAPTOPusername' and then password) which I don't understand the relevance. What domain should I use?

When it comes down to it I just want an SMB share that all the Windows 7 computers in my house can access, but still requires a password. Are there any guides available? Please make sure they are up to date with the latest SAMBA and Windows 7 configuration. The ones I have gone over are old and didn't fix my problem. Also if I need to modify the registry then it isn't worth it.

It was working fine until about four days ago. However, if I type in the IP address, I can access the website, so it must be some sort of DNS issue.
