View 1 Replies View RelatedThere is a particular java app called LanguageTool which we need to host on our centos server. Other applications are supposed to send an http request to this machine; this machine should pass this data (received over the http request) to the java application concerned, obtain the output from the app; and then send this response back to the requesting client...
We need to set this app as a service on startup. The centos machine might restarted from time to time; so we expect this service should startup automatically. What can I do to get this done?
I'm configuring a new Centos 5.5 server in replacement of an old W2K server. The topology of our network is simple : one file/dhcp/dns relay server and workstations (PC's and some MAC's) plus network printers and scanners. All the workstations have dynamic IP addresses (easier because a lot of 'dynamic' changes : new persons with their own laptop, ...) and the server and printers/scanners have fixed IP addresses.I edited the dhcpd.conf (see here underneath), I have the file dhcpd.leases but it doesn't start !

I need help adding a nohup command in this command line: su - rhx12 -c "/rhythx/rhythx/bin start /rhythx/rhyth" When I execute the script using root on the command line it works fine. But, when I reboot the server the process doesn't start. This script will go into the etc/init.d and rc2.d directory.

I have just configured CentOS server my new office. This is the first time I am using CentOS.
Whenever I am trying to change the webroot of the httpd server, it usually say "directory doesn't exist". whereas which can't be the case as it is home directory of the user.
To achieve this, what Do I need to do?
The second issue, I am facing that whenever I am adding new directories to public_html folder, it is not accessible. as the error page 404 is shown. I have changed the permissions to 0705 and ownership is also transferred to other user. What else is required to make new directories accessible by the web?

I'm running a CentOS 5.2 vm on a W2K8 hyper-v core server. The problem I have is that when I reboot, the system time always resets itself to 6:00 am in the morning. I tried the /sbin/hwclock --systohc command but it hasn't taken hold.

I run a centos 5.6 guest (webserver) in a KVM VM on centos 5.6. When I lost my gnome desktop, I received the suggestion to remove the gconfd stuff and reboot. I found two gconfd directories in /tmp and removed them. Now the webserver VM reboots contineously. I forced down the VM, rebooted the base system etc., but that did not help at all.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running a dell poweredge 2600 in which i just now did a fresh install of Centos 5.5 KDE. The install went perfectly with no hiccups or errors. I reboot the server and centos dose its normal checking everything and giving a Green"OK" or Red"Error" and everything seems to be fine. I then get to a black screen with a X mouse cursor, i can move the cursor freely and i can turn the Num Lock key on and off and i can do a Ctrl+Alt+F5 and then reboot with a Ctrl+Alt+Del smoothly, but i just cant get the centos to boot up all the way into the GUI.
View 16 Replies View RelatedWe have a Centos 5.6 server mounting two iSCSI volumes from an HP P2000 storage array. Multipathd is also running, and this has been working well for the few months we have been using it. The two volumes presented to the server were created in LVM, and worked without problem. We had a requirement to reboot the server, and now the iSCSI volumes will no longer mount. From what I can tell, the iSCSI connection is working ok, as I can see the correct sessions, and if I run 'fdisk -l' I can see the iSCSI block devices, but the O/S isn't seeing the filesystems. Any LVM command does not show the volumes at all, and 'vgchange -a y' only lists the local boot volume, not the iSCSI volumes. My concern is that, the output of 'fdisk -l' says 'Disk /dev/xxx doesn't contain a valid partition table' for all the iSCSI devices. Research shows that performing the vgchange -a y command should automatically mount any VG's that aren't showing, but it doesn't work.
There's a lot of data on these iSCSI volumes, and I'm no LVM expert. I've read that some have had problems where LVM starts before iSCSI and things get a bit messed up, but I don't know if this is the case here (I can't tell), but if there's a way of switching this round that might help, I'm prepared to give it a go.There was absolutely no indication there were any problems with these volumes, so corruption is highly unlikely.
Centos 5.3 includes Ext4 and improved support for encrypted file systems but it appears to be aimed at laptop/desktop systems, in that a password must be entered at boot time.
Is it possible to have a server with an encrypted root file system boot up without entering a password?
Mandos will do it...
http://wiki.fukt.bsnet.se/wiki/Mandos
...by serving up the password from another server...
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/mandos
...to a client loaded into the initial RAM disk environment...
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/mandos-client
...but it's not available on CentOS, and is only in Debian unstable.
Is there a similar (or any) solution for CentOS?
In particular, I'm envisaging encrypted virtual machines being served passwords from their virtual host.
Alternatively, the data that *really* needs to be protected could be encrypted while the system core remains unencrypted. But then the keys to decrypt the file system must be stored in the unencrypted portion, so this is not an effective method.
How to get GUI while ssh to a server? This is what I have so far.
Code:
yum groupinstall "X Window System" "GNOME Desktop Environment" on server
How to start the gui?
I'm running CentOS 5.4. I rebooted the machine for the first time in at least a month or so. I reboot into runlevel 3 (no X11). Things seem fine. But when I login and try to start X with "startx", the screen goes blank. X doesn't appear to start. In fact, the only thing I can do is reboot the machine and start over. This is really annoying.

I performed a system update yesterday to CentOS version 5.4. Now I cannot get vmware to start. I get the error "VMware Server is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured for the running kernel. To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command: /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl." I tried running vmware-config but that did not resolve the issue. I saw the bug related to 2.0.x (after the update), but that does not seem to apply to 1.0.9.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am still pretty green when it comes to centos and linux in general. I have installed rpm and source packages before with little trouble by following the guides available on the support site and wiki for centos.I am running centos 5.4 on a virtual server.I followed the guide for installing vpopmail at URL...mailSince this is a VPS server I cannot install gnome and is why I opted for vpopmail + qmail.
The first issue I have is: I don't know how to tell qmail to start up automatically because after the install of qmail from source as the guide told me to, it did not place a startup files in the /etc/init.d, and I can't find any useful documentation on how to trouble shoot that.I try to use "chkconfig qmail on" and "chkconfig --level 345 qmail on" but both give me the error "error reading information on service qmail: No such file or directory"The version of qmail I am using is the latest 1.0.3, and the version of vpopmail is 5.5.
Vpopmail seems to be working just fine, as is the mysqlauth mod. I check the vpopmail database in mysql, and all the values I used for the domain and user show up there. The settings also show in the qmail configuration directory files for the domain. My first clue as to something being wrong was that when I send an email to the address I setup, I get nothing delivered on the server, but I also do not get any bounce backs or errors to tell me the details of what went wrong. At first I figured it was my firewall, so I disabled iptables. That did not fix it.I also tried disabling SElinux. That also made no difference.
