I installed fedora 10 and shut it down after failing to have ..... run to it. later when I turned on the computer after loading 100% a black screen comes up and i cannot access any further. How can I solve the problem without reinstalling the OS.

3. wvdial
After that I tried to edit the /etc/wvdial.conf to put the [Dialer cdma] details.it asks for root access. I have tried to gain it from terminal used command

which i have used throughout the installation. stiil it says login invalid I need to get it work because i cannot edit any file from gedit and i cannot get on the net so for every tutorial which i want to see i need to reboot the system login to win 7 then save page as HTML return to Fedora and try to get it done Still it fails as i dont hav root access....
I am using F10 desktop edition, all the computers using windows are able to access the shared folders over lan except me using F10. View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running a Fedora 10 box behind a Comcast cable modem that provides squid and mail services to 15 XP and Vista workstations. I upgraded the ethernet cards on our Fedora box to support our new 1 gigabyte network. I kept the same device configuration eth0 and eth2 by updating the /etc/udev/net persistent file and changing the ethernet hardware address in the respective ifcfg-eht files in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts. The box booted to the new cards, the route and ifgonfig shows the new cards and their hardware addresses, the configuration looks as how the old cards looked (eth0 and eth2 respectfully). I was able to browse the local network and have access to the internet as before from inside the network . However I cannot get access to our web server that serves our web host and our VPN services from ouside our network. I tried stopping the firewall and still could nor connect from outside the network.Could my old ethernet hardware address be hard coded somewherel?

I can still access Internet through Ethernet using a LAN cable but the network monitor doesn't show list of Wireless networks which my room mate's windows 7 machine easily detects.

I've been running a Samba server under RedHat 8 for five years without a hiccup. I want to cut over to a F10 box but cannot get shares accessible. smbclient attempts fail over NT password error. SELinux is disabled. Server is visible on the network. Users require no password access to shared data.

I managed to configure my W890i phone to get access to internet through an ubuntu-based computer. It's very easy to use the phone to give internet access to the computer, but the opposite is quite more tricky. For that I've done the following
----On the phone---
-Set the USB network option to "through computer", so that the phone uses the computer's internet connection and not the opposite.
-Decide and set "Shared Network" parameters: user, pasword and workgroup.
-In "conectivity-> internet connection" set "allow local network" to "yes"
----On Ubuntu 10.04---
-Install samba, samba-client, smbfs, smbclient, firestarter and dhcp3-server
-Configure Samba (System-> Administration-> Shared folders): same workgroup as in the phone, add new user (the phone), passwd this new user. In my case the user was called "w890i" and the password given was the same.
-Once the phone is connected to the computer through USB (then select "phone mode"), a new connection appears in NetworkManager: usb0.The aim is to create a shared network that gives internet access to this device. Edit the IPv4 parameters of this new connection, set them to Manual and give an IP adress (192.168.0.1) and a subnet mask (255.255.255.0); the rest of the fields are left empty.Connect this network.
-Set firestarter to use dhcp3: sudo ln -sf /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server /etc/init.d/dhcpd
-Launch firestarter and follow the wizard. Set "allow internet shared connection", choose the device for the primary internet access, and then the device for the shared network (usb0). Then change the settings for firestarter: activate DHCP for local network, set IP to the one we gave before (192.168.0.1).
-Open dhcp3-server config file sudo gedit /etc/default/dhcp3-server And set INTERFACES="usb0"
-Set the policies of firestarter: in incoming connections, allow connections from the IP adress given to the phone (192.168.0.1). Then add rules for the ports that need to be open for this connection. I opened HTTP, HTTPS, SMB, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, IMAPS, DHCP for all the connections in the local network.
-Apply policies and start the firewall.

After all this, the phone can access the internet through the computer. Two problems appeared:
1. I couldn't get access to https sites, like webmails. The phone gave a "communication error". But then I tried with Opera instead of the browser built in the phone's firmware, and I could finally get to https sites.
2. I couldn't retrieve mail, neither POP nor IMAP nor IMAPS. I thought it was a firmware problem again, and I tried out several mobile phone email clients written in java, but none of them worked.
So this is at the moment the problem. If I connect from the phone to the internet directly through 3G, the email clients work for all my accounts. I don't think it's a firewall problem, because the ports are opened for this connection
I always find myself stuck when it comes to sharing folders across networks.
I just installed ubuntu on a pc, with 2 other pc's in my network - one runs Windows XP and the other Windows 7.
When I go to Network -> Windows Network -> WORKGROUP I can see both Windows computers. But when I try to open either one of them, it asks me for a username and password. Now, neither of the Windows machines have passwords (they just login automatically).
(I haven't used Ubuntu since the earlier versions and remember having to go through samba and set up config files, etc.).
My question is probably very common, but I didn't find an answer.I have several computers, each with different user. Each user has a shared folder in samba. I want all users to access all these shares with a single login/password (not with the login/passw of each particular user)

I would love to use the latest Ubuntu in this machine. Please let me know if it is possible to configure a ubuntu/xubuntu in this machine. I need to be able to login with my corporate user_id/passwd, because many of the tools use this for authentication. so just doing a ubuntu installation in this machine and mounting the n/w location would not help.
I recently configured a server that I would like to access remotely. I want to start x through ssh and then log in through vnc, but I get prompted to type in my password in gnome before I have a change to login. Which is a problem because you need to be at the box to enter the password. Is there a way to authenticate this through ssh or give vnc automatic keychain access?

I don't know where the problem is for not getting the username and password accepted or authorization.
I even tried turning off the password requirement in Windows 7, but no luck.

Something must be missing cuz I can see the Windows 7 computer on Ubuntu but the login fails all the time.

The share is hosted on a PopcornHour Network Media Tank, running a Linux system. With Lucid, I was able to access the share without any problems, both in Nautilus and from terminal. I can still access the share from other nfs clients - it's just ubuntu/Maverick which exhibits this problem. I have tried reverting to older firmware on the PopcornHour but that doesn't make any improvement.
Was there some significant change in nfs with the Maverick release, or have I misconfigured something?
Currently I am using HP NAS box and we have installed HP Storage Works storage Mirroring on NAS for Replication. Windows 2008 is installed on this NAS box. I have shared a directory as NFS share on this NAS box and allow anonymous read and write access to all machines. I want to mount and access this NFS share directory on one LINUX machine and this Linux machine has Redhat 5.3 Enterprise edition.
1.The issue I am facing here is, I can mount the NFS share on my Linux machine successfully but I can not do read/write on this NFS share. Whenever I try to access this mounted NFS share, I always get error Permission denied. I can do any read/write operation on this mount point. Please provide the inputs to resolve this issue.
2.How do I mount NFS share with user credential and password? Can I share a directory as NFS share with user credential which I can use when I mount the share? 3.Is there any other way to access NFS share by using user authentication and password?
I have a weird issue where all of the machines in my office can all connect to our web server, either via DNS or using the server IP directly. However, on my machine, which is using the same network IP as the rest of the office and I know it's not being blacklisted, I can't access the server at all via SSH or web or mail. I'm the only machine running Linux, I've flushed the network cache using nscd, but this made no difference. Can anyone think of what might be going on here?

I am able to access the webmail using the same certificate which I installed in firefox. But I would like to know how to use this certificate to sign in to the VPN. Some of my colleagues use the Cisco VPN client v5.0.? software and the vpn client certificate to login. It works fine. But I would like to do the same with Centos.I tried connecting using vpnc. I converted the pcf file to conf using pcf2conf. Converted the certificate to .pem file. I replaced the /etc/vpnc/default.conf file with the pcf2conf converted file. My first mistake was not checking in advance to see if this adapter would work, but I have taken the leap and I am intent on making it work. I ran lsusb and it gives me a device number (13b1:002f) so I know it can be seen and I have also installed indisgtk the GUI for Wirless drivers. I have tried some suggestions from other posts to no avail.

Everytime I want to connect to my Windows 7 pc, it will just prompt me a "password required for xx pc"...and keep looping on every username/password [afaik from the windows account], and I'm unable to login to it.
Even tho I've set "LmCompatibilityLevel" dword key, 1 or 2 [restarted every set] under LSA..it's still the same thing happens...
I have recently installed ubuntu 9.10. Earlier I had ubuntu 9.04. On that my internet was running perfectly well.After installation I created new connection as I had done for 9.04 version using "Network connections , Edit connections". However, after configuring connection(uname , password etc.) I wasn't able to access Internet.So I tried using "pppoeconf" utility. After using this now whenever I click on network connections applet on top panel , it shows in menu "device not managed".Can somebody point out what went wrong and what to do so as to be able to acess Internet in ubuntu?

It used to work in Ubuntu 10.10, but after upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 it sees the Access Point, tries to connect but never succeeds. I can however still connect to my home router. I am at a loss why this is inaccessible at present. Can anybody please advise what to do? I am configuring firewall but I doubt if that has anything to do with my problem.
