Fedora Networking :: Cannot Activate Via System-config-network?

May 28, 2009

I've been running F10 since it first came out, and I was happy to see it was the first Fedora release that automatically recognized my Atheros wireless card. I have to run system-config-network and press the "activate" button when I start the machine, but that's ok and no big deal. But today, for whatever reason,in system-config-network, the "activate" and "deactivate" buttons are grayed out and I cannot start the device so I have no network access. When I boot the machine into Windows, it works fine.

Fedora Networking :: Wireless Configuration Does Not Show Up In System-config-network

Sep 1, 2010

This may fall under the "ain't broke don't fix it" category but it's driving me nuts. I've got the Broadcom 4322 wireless adapter in my laptop and it works fine with broadcom-wl driver and kmod. However there is no ifcfg-eth1 file and the card does not show up in system-config-network.

Fedora :: System-config-network Bin Missing?

Nov 5, 2010

I looked around, but found no results that really matched and I would like to point out that I am fairly new to linux, so this may be a very obvious answer to some of you.I am running fc12.i686, installed from a disk in the back of a book for a class. No one else in my class is having this issue.When I select System > Administration > Network I am given this error: Failed to execute child process "/usr/bin/system-config-network" (No such file or directory). I am not so new to not realize that this file is not there, which I confirmed with an "ls -a". My question is, is there any way that I can download and install that bin? Or perhaps replace/repair it with the disc? It was supposed to be in the original install and my have been, the only thing that I have done in the /usr/bin/ directory is I tried to install Java (6.22 I think it was), which told me it installed correctly but didn't work when I tried Minecraft.

Fedora Networking :: IPW2200 - Failed To Send System Config

Jun 8, 2009

I'm using Fedora 9 and I recently transferred my hard drive to a new laptop. Everything went smoothly except the wireless, which promptly broke. I played around with the network service and the NetworkManager service and chkconfig stuff and system-config-network, until I finally got it to work. Now I have wireless, but every time I shut down, I get some error-like messages:

"ipw2200: Failed to send SYSTEM_CONFIG: Already sending a command." repeating every second for about 3 or 4 seconds before it finally does shut down.

These also appear in dmesg, usually about 20 in a row, thus my concern. My wireless device's interface is eth3. How to get rid of this message while still keeping wireless connectivity.

Fedora Networking :: FC10 - Unusual System-config - Unable To Ping Other Computers Or Routers

Jun 2, 2009

I recently built my second general-purpose server, and recently installed fedora core 10 on it. The first thing I attempted to set up after installation was the network - and that's where it's gone wrong When editing a network device using the graphical system-config-network utility, I find that the subnet mask is being automatically changed to match the default gateway address every time I attempt to modify any of its settings (or sometimes even when I cancel the changes). This also means that I cannot set the subnet mask, as it simply won't accept my setting for it. I seem to be able to get around this glitch by setting the subnet mask using the shell version of the same utility, but that doesn't solve my network issue.

Even when I use the shell utility to fix the subnet mask, I'm unable to ping other computers or routers on the network even when ifconfig indicates that the desired ip address has been taken, and other computers on the network are also unable to see the server. I'm using a wired connection and a static IP address on a network with no DHCP.

Red Hat :: System-config-network In RHEL6 / Can't Configure NIC To Connect To Internet?

Jan 30, 2011

As i describe the thread,i won't be able to configure my NIC to connect to internet which is basically done by just running system-config-network in shell to configure xDSL connection.But instead of system-config-network it contains system-config-network-tui which is used for ISDN connection.And after running system-config-network as well as system-config-network-tui it shows the same output which is in attach file

After some google search it shows that there is bug with system-config-network and it is fixed in system-config-network-1.6.0.el6.2-1.el6 but i wont be able to find it.

As i m not subscribed to RHN

Fedora Networking :: System-config-printer Bad Printer Entry?

Dec 26, 2009

I have a problem with a bad entry in my system-config-printer on my notebook computer which I think is interfering with my ability to print. I run fedora 10 on several systems in my house. On one desktop, I have a printer hosted which I think I have successfully setup for wireless network sharing (an HP895) using IPP.My problem seems to be a bad entry in my system-config-printer on my notebook computer which seems to stall when I try to print from applications (Firefox for example.) on the notebook. If I open up "Printing", I have 3 printers listed... one of them is for when the printer is attached directly to the notebook, one of them is the working printer description "printer" and the 3d is the bad entry. If I click on the bad entry to try to delete it, I don't have that option, but If I try to look at the "properties" for that entry, system-config-printer stalls (as do other applications when the printing dialog box starts up, and I have to force them to shut down.)

I will attach some screenshots and a copy of my /etc/cups/printers.conf file.How do I get rid of this "bad entry" in the system-config-printers GUI ? It doesn't seem to exist in the printers.conf file.

Ubuntu Networking :: How To Reinstall Network

Nov 14, 2010

How can I reinstall network. I remove dhclient3 because chkrootkit identified it as a possible issue. Well, now I have no internet. I am running from the live cd for ubuntu right now.

I was told to copy files. I tried to copy files but was unsuccessful. I did not see 'dhclient3'.

Is there a way I can reinstall the all of the network part for ubuntu?

I can just reinstall all of ubuntu, but I have some pictures on the drive now that I do not want to lose. Also, unfortunately, I do not have enough storage as I am out of dvds and the usb drive I have is too small to hold all the movies that we recorded with the digitial camera.

I installed SELinux, Chkrootkit, ClamAV, AIDE, and set up UFW firewall. I wrote it all down, so I can do all of that again if needed. I just don't want to lost my videos / pics.

Ubuntu :: Reinstall The FTP Servers They Won't Start Because The Config Files Are Gone?

Mar 31, 2010

I built out a headless VMWare v2.0.2 Server. I managed to work all that out but now I'm having some trouble getting my virtual machines on the server. I installed both proftpd and vsftpd but neither server lets me log in. 'Login Failed' is always returned (using the only account on the machine - created during the install).

So I decided to install samba, but samba chokes on large files. I tried over and over again to copy a 10GB VMDK file over samba and it gets to 5% or so and suddenly tells me there is a network problem and dies (which there is no network problem as these machines are all on the same subnet plugged into the same gigabit switch).

So now I'm back to FTP. Unfortunately when I ran apt-get remove proftpd, it didn't remove any of the config files (/etc/proftpd/*) so I manually deleted them. Now when I try to reinstall the FTP servers they won't start because the config files are gone. What's the apt-get syntax to completely uninstall these servers as if they had never been installed so I can start clean? I really don't want to have to do a complete system re-install just to fix 300KB FTP servers.

Ubuntu Installation :: Reinstall Apache2 - Recreating Config Files

May 11, 2010

I've deleted /etc/apache2 and did run:
Code:
sudo apt-get -o DPkg::Options::="--force-confmiss" --reinstall install apache2.2-common
to get the default config back.

But starting the server via:
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/apache2
results in:

Code:
Syntax error on line 161 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf:
Invalid command 'Order', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
line 160-163 look like this:

Code:
<Files ~ "^.ht">
Order Allow,Deny # line in question
Deny from all
</Files>

The funny thing is that the exact same definition is in a debian lenny server config on another server. So why did this install a not working config?

I just removed apache2 via:
Code:
sudo aptitude remove apache2
sudo rm -r /etc/apache2
and reinstalled it via:
Code:
sudo aptitude install apache2
which also did not fix the config bug?

For testing I installed apache2 on another ubuntu 9.10 and did just copy the folder /etc/apache2 to my local installation - this fixed the problem. Still, why cant I reinstall apache2 with a working config?

Fedora :: Where Is System-config-display?

Mar 8, 2010

My machine is a new Fedora Core 12 install. The install did not make an /etc/x11/xorg.conf file by default, which is odd. So, I want to change things with the display. But there's no "system-config-display" in /usr/bin. What's going on? Why wasn't this installed by default? I've had lots of other problems with X on this machine as well:

the 10x20 fonts were missing XFree86-Misc error messages whenever I start an xterm I also receive these warnings, intermittantly, when I create xterms:

Code:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-Misc" missing on display ":0.0".
xmodmap: please release the following keys within 2 seconds:
Control_L (keysym 0xffe3, keycode 37)
xmodmap: please release the following keys within 4 seconds:
Control_L (keysym 0xffe3, keycode 37)
xmodmap: please release the following keys within 8 seconds:
Control_L (keysym 0xffe3, keycode 37)

With this many problems I want to know if there's something in general broken with X on FC12, or was that just my install, or what?
