Anyways, i followed one of the posts and successfully compiled the driver using "sudo make menuconfig." I attempted to install with the "make install" command, and the first half of the driver seemed to install and the second half (firmware related) received errors.

Jun 5, 2011I have a Alfa AWUS036NH that I have downloaded the lastest drivers from Alfa. I have read for 3 days straight and tryed so many fixes I cant remember them all. My problem is that it connects then after about 15 minutes the connection degrades and i have to unplug and replug in and then it goes down sooner each time. I have edited the black list and blacklisted all the 2870 chipsets as mine has 3070 chipset. once i edited the blacklist I can no longer boot into linux unless I unplug my Alfa (usb) and then once I am into the UI I can plug it back in but the wirless management client up by the top right of my screen that came with ubuntu no longer sees the card and when I do the show devices command from a terminal it doesn't show the adapter either. I also have a wired eth0 that works and a wireless wlan0 thats an internal Aethros that works. After blacklisting though it no longer shows it's name in the wireless manager but does show the connections. I am getting errors when trying to compile the manufactors drivers. I have renamed the 2 files as per several posts and still errors. I have read it works if you load the intel 2200 drivers. I got the compiler and everything but am missing the ieee80211 wireless what evers to compile and make it work. I am at wits end at what to do now to fix it.

Jan 5, 2010i have ALFA AWUS036H 500mw wireless card which uses RTL8187L chipset. Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 come with preloaded rtl8187 driver but they DO NOT work for internet surfing. However they do work with aircrack suit for injecting etc. Specific problem is: They only work with really close ranged AP, anything far and you will have random disconnects or inability to connect. So basically its unstable compared to patched driver.
To get this alfa card working for internet access, the only way currently is to use any LInux distro with Kernel 2.6.30 and lower. Starting from Kernel 2.6.31 they have made some changes to net api structure which wont let you patch the driver with the patch available at aircrack website which is normally used to make this driver suitable for internet browsing. I am currently using backtrack 4 pre final but i was going to install kubuntu 9.04 till i recieved an email from realtek with a new driver that compiles in kernel 2.6.31. I tested it on Kubuntu 9.10 and it compiled fine but i could not make it run. Under NetworkManagement for Kubutnu, the problem is that it keeps asking for WEP key and gives me the message 'wlan4 failed to connect' instantly after i enter the key, so its possible that its not compatible with NetworkManagement. I havent tried it with wicd yet, it may work........

Apr 19, 2011I have Backtrack4 installed as a dual boot with Vista in my Acer Aspire 5315 laptop. I can connect to my access point with my inbuilt wireless Atheros AR5007EG wireless adapter by starting services/network and WICD. The problem I have is connecting my Alfa network RTL8187 wireless through WICD or wireless assistant. My Alfa network adapter works fine as I have used it with Aircrack-ng in BT4.

General :: Installing Ubuntu With Realtek Network Driver Rtl8168?
Jan 25, 2011I have been having trouble with the install of Ubunto in general. First problem is that my realtek network drivers rtl8168 are giving me some problems. I have followed advice from other threads for disactivating the NIC and disconnecting the power for 10seconds. This works in that Ubunto can recognize the hardware (hardware active), but it says it is not in use. Furthermore, I try to define the IP address manually and it does not allow me to press apply. Therefore I cannot connect to the internet.
I though I would try a fresh install of the latest Ubuntu. I did not have the internet connected (due to drivers). After the partitioning section (I partitioned over Ubunto 9.10), on the screen where it says select Username, computer name etc. some files were loaded, and at the end it says �ready when you are�but I was not able to move forward. I don�t now why. Ultimately I reboot the computer Now I get this message upon booting (I am still booting from USB)

I`m now facing some problems with my new OS :
1. The driver for my wireless network card isn't recognized although I have installed the recommended driver which was in Ubuntu Hardware Driver section.
2. When I connect my laptop to my TV using HDMI port, the screen is OK but there is no sound!
3. When by any reason my network cable is unplugged, the whole network service goes down and I have to restart the system.

I have scoured these forums and know that others have the same issue (when configuring other drivers/programs). I am sorry if this post is redundant. It sounds like the Makefile is pointing to the wrong directory. I am using opensuse 11.4, have make and gcc installed. My kernel is linux-2.6.37.1-1.2 (I just re-installed the desktop kernel to make sure it was up to date). The driver I am trying to install is located here: AUR (en) - rtl8192ce.
Another forum suggests pointing somewhere in the /usr/src/linux-2.6.37.1-1.2 directory instead. Is this correct? Should I be pointing to a folder within this? I am not a programmer but any description about what I am actually putting in this directory and why would be awesome (so I can learn a bit more). Or just helping me solve the problem would be great too.

Unfortunately the new motherboard is a rev 2.x board, which has a different onboard NIC (old one is RTL 8102E, new one is AR8132), so now my ethernet connection doesn't work anymore (no eth0 device), I assume I need to install a new driver for the AR8132? Jul 8, 2009i got an Compaq proliant ML530 server that i installed CentOS 5.3 on i tested the connectivity to the LAN and to the WAN and everything worked. Then i ran:
"yum install xen xen-kernel"
and after that i can't connect to the network if i ping my other servers there's no replay. i assume this have to do with Xen bridge. But since the tutorials dont mention any configuration needed, i assumed that it would work out of the box.

Oct 2, 2010I have a old laptop Dell C600 PIII 800mhz 256mb RAM 20Gb HDD and a floppy drive. It has 1 USB port and no wifi card.
I bought the Belkin F6D4050 v1 usb wireless adapter so that I could use it on the above laptop and connect to my wireless network at home. The Belkin USB wireless adapter has a Ralink xchipset
There was no specific Linux driver available but a workaround for an old driver worked. Some changes to the code and compiling gets the wireless adapter to work.
I have installed Arch on the laptop. I compiled it and its working fine
Questions 1.Arch linux releases new image only once or twice a year I have downloaded the latest available arch image and built froms scratch. When I update Arch (as it is a rolling release) the kernel also gets updated and the compiled driver fails to work. I have to recompile again for the new kernel. Is there a way I can compile this driver in the existing Arch or any other distro kernel and use as long as I can without updating so I do not have to recompile again
Slackware :: FGLRX Driver And Compiling Kernel In 13.1
May 26, 2010I am currently having an issue installing the FGLRX driver in slackware 13.1. I use a customer kernel due to buggy acpi on my toshiba laptop. The steps i took to compile my kernel are as followed. hu
make mrproper in /usr/src/linux directory
patch /usr/src/linux directory
copy kernel config from /boot directory
make menguconfig and load config
the make all
make modules install
i have also tried make install as well
then i mopy system.map the kernel file and config file into /boot directory
edit lilo
reboot ... everything works fine acpi works properly like before.. now the problem comes.. I try to install the fglrx drivers and i get the error message

Apr 10, 2011I am running Debian 6 & picked up a wireless nic for my desktop since I want to locate it in an area that would be a challenge to wire. I downloaded the driver and ran make and got the strange error below. I tried doing some web research but could not find anything. I also booted up the machine w/ a Ubuntu Live disk to ensure the card was good and found no issues ( I also have the same nic in my kids machine running Ubuntu 10.10. )
