I have loded centos 5 on vertual machine, my host machine is windows xp and has two NIC cards working perfectly well
1) realtek RTL 8139 family PCI fast eathernet NIC
2) realtek 8169/8110 family gigabite ethernet NIC ( ONBOARD)
but both of them are not getting detected by CENTOS
I have a 64 bit install of Ubuntu 10.04, I was surfing up to 11:30pm EST last night, shut down for the night, upon reboot am unable to connect to the internet or my local network. Ubuntu seems to think that I have no ethernet cables connected.My networking is controlled by my motherboard (Gigabyte P55A-UD4P) and the problem is not on my cable modems side. The modem has multiple wired jacks, all of them are unresponsive with my Ubuntu PC while my roommate can connect to all of them with his Windows 7 PC. Both network cables (the one connecting to his box and the one connecting to mine) are interchangeable: They both work on his and neither on mine, so there is no broken cable.I've followed the troubleshooting in other posts, here are some commonly requested diagnostics:

Everything works perfectly except no wireless networks are recognized, even though I know there are available networks. My network controller is detected but is not doing it's job, which is finding available wireless networks! Using "system testing" I found this out about my network controller:

Okay well I have inserted my SD card into my pc.. but ubuntu doesnt seem to be picking it up? It's not showing any signs, i remember it use to show a little icon with the name of the card on the desktop or in the "places" menu but I dont see it.

Now ive put everything back together, my main pc with linux on doesn't detect the wireless card.
I turned it off, then checked the card hadnt been knocked out. It did appear to be, so i put it back in properly, and it still wont detect the card. (its basically a pcie card with an antenna sticking out the back).
I was here yesterday trying to make my ethernet card(which my rhel 6.0 doesn't detect) works. I initially untar a file that has the driver for my card which i got from atheros. When i tried to run it i.e ./autorun.sh i got the following result:

I am using Ubuntu 8.04 and when I open up my network settings, It shows my ethernet card and my modem but my wireless card doesn't show up. Under "Hardware Drivers" it says that my driver for my wireless card is a "proprietary driver" and that there is no driver I can get for it for Linux. Is there any way that I can get my wireless card to work? I tried going to the HP website and downloading a driver for it, but all of the drivers only work for Windows....

I found that the modules usbserial, option, qcserial were missing. I installed them using "insmod".After that I have removed and reconnected the device. I've the Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller also a wireless slot (I've the wireless card DWL-G650+) When I turn on the pc and I go to "Ethernet Device", I see set: peth0 (Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) ETHERNET CONTROLLER) and also set "Bind to MAC address": fe:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff I've set manually the IP address (I'm under router). Status is "Active" but can't go on the Net. It always worked fine in Ubuntu by default (plug and play). Is there some setting I need to make to get this working?Even BT-3 (which is quite old) recognizes the RT-73.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wireless card isent detecting my router even though it has detected my 3 of neighbors wifi. the only reason i thought that it may not be able to detect mine is that i use a wpa2 encrption rather then a wep like my neighbors. so i tried to go and reset my router using my other desktop and set it to a wep encryption, but for some reason my computer still did not detect it. i am using a dell dimension comnputer with both a linkseys N gigabit router model number :wrt310n and the reciving card linkseysduel band wireless N network adapter model number :wusb600n. can somebody please tell my what i am doing wrong? this is rather annoying as i have to drag my desktop and moniter out to the living room just to physically connect to my router to enable internet.

I've got brand new Dell Optiplex 380 (Intel E8400 chipset) that I wanted to use to test new KVM virtual environment, after installing Centos 5.5 - (64bit) I'm not getting any further than "egrep '(vmx|svm)'color= always /proc/cpuinfo" as it is not showing that CPU is capable of VMX. Now this URL... says that it is perfectly up to what I want from it. I specifically installed W2k3 server R2 on the same box previously to run these apps, just to be sure URL...everything was nice and green and according Windows and those apps perfectly VMX-capable, but still CentOS isn't recognizing VMX capabilities.BIOS settings are all enabled...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed CentOS 5.3 on my Shuttle SS-31T with SiS 190 network adapter. While booting the message "Bringing up eth 0 [ OK ]" appears. After booting it isn't possible to surf to an internet location (p.a. www.google.com). It's also impossible to ping other machines in the network. After typing ifconfig everything seems to be ok.

I have a Centos 5 server on my LAN for testing the websites that i develop.It worked perfectly until this morning , after cold start -up, it seems that my network card is not enabled . I try to install CentOS 5.3 for the first time. The installation of system is completed successfully, but the computer isn't detected the installation of CentOS after rebooting and I have an error Non-System Disk or Disk Error Replace and strike any Key When Ready on starting. Does the hard disk have error and it should replace it? If the hard disk have errors, how the system CentOS could take hold?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have postfix setup with amavisd and I tried to send myself an email with the eicar file however it lets the email go through to my inbox. When I restart the amavisd service, there are no errors in the log and it finds all the decoders for different file types and I also see this come up:

Everything seems to work but it doesn't scan the file for viruses. Also, I've double and triple checked and my amavisd.conf file doesn't have the option enabled to bypass virus scanning.
I am attempting to use a serial trackball in CentOS 5.3 and have run out of ideas. The mouse is connected to COM2 (/dev/ttyS1). I have tried to configure it through xorg.conf using every protocol I could find including "auto" and tried the same again using "inputattach". The mouse communicates at 1200 baud, so I've tried using stty to set the port to that baud rate and still no luck. Is there a test tool that can be used to see if the serial connection is functioning? If not, are there any other ideas?
