Sep 13, 2010I've installed from the CD the Centos version 5.5. When I try to connect to Internet I can't because I received some errors. I've the Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller also a wireless slot (I've the wireless card DWL-G650+) When I turn on the pc and I go to "Ethernet Device", I see set: peth0 (Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) ETHERNET CONTROLLER) and also set "Bind to MAC address": fe:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff I've set manually the IP address (I'm under router). Status is "Active" but can't go on the Net. When I change to "eth0 (Intel EtherExpress/100 driver)...sometimes become "Active" an other times said that the MAC address is different or to check the cable because can't find the IP. What can I do?

Jun 26, 2011I am unable to find Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Ethernet Controller driver for CentOS which is installed on my netbook.
I contacted DELL to provide me the driver and they said that they do not support Linux on netbook and I have to arrange it myself.
I told them that I don't need help in installing I just need the driver file to which they said that they don't have driver for Linux.
NIC is getting detected and works fine on the same netbook (Am dual booting Windows7/CentOS) with Windows7
When I type: ls -l /dev/ it does not show up eth0. Same result with ifconfig. When I type lspci | grep net it does show up something like Atheros Communications AR8132 L1 PCI Gigabit .

Jan 5, 2010I'm trying to find a driver for my wireless card (Atheros AR928X) and I think it's ath9k what I need. As far as I know there isn't a linux driver for it, so I installed ndiswrapper to use a windows driver instead. The problem is that when I type modprobe ndiswrapper I get "bash: modprobe: command not found" (even as root). I know I'm missing something about modprobe, but I can't find any help on google. Anyway, I installed ndisgtk next, because I thought it would be easier, but when I go to System> Administration> Windows Wireless Drivers I get a message "Unknown error".Do you have any ideas on how I'll make ndiswrapper work?

Sep 22, 2010I tried to compile Atheros AR8152 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller driver for fedora 13 64 bit kernel version is 2.6.34.7-56.fc13.x86_64. I have installed kernel source , kernel header and necessary all things to compile it. (linux-firmware-20100806-4.fc13.noarch also installed). I tried AR81Family-linux-v1.0.1.13 source from Atheros web site.
But when I try to make it it give following error.

This driver is not supported on kernel versions older than 2.4.0. Stop. It is not compiling issue because I compiled and installed broadcom wireless driver.

May 12, 2009I have installed CentOS 5.3, and updated with yum update. I have kernel 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5xen.
I can't get my wirelss network to work, I have AR928X wireles network adapter.
Do I need to install a newer kernel and install ath9k or can I just downlad a driver without updating the kernel?
I'm new to CetOS and Linux so I hope someone kan give me a step by step guide to what I can do!

Aug 23, 2010I recently purchased an MSI 740GM-P25 with an Atheros AR8131M gigabit ethernet adapter onboard. I have since discovered that it's not the easiest device to get working in CentOS (or any other distro I've tried, frankly). Anybody use this card and have instructions on how to get it working? I've got a lot of experience with Linux, but I've never been quite as good with hardware stuff as I probably should be. I've included a list of things I've already attempted below (limited as the list may be).
1) Tried both CentOS 5.5 x86_64 and Fedora 13 x86_64
2) Tried to download and compile the source code for three different Atheros drivers from their website (the Linux drivers listed here) in Fedora 13. All stated that I was using a kernel version that was unsupported (>2.4.0) when attempting to compile.
EDIT: Also, I contacted MSI directly for assistance.I got the simple yet incredibly unhelpful "we can't help you unless you use Windows" response. So there is no official support (and therefore no driver) provided by the manufacturer.

Jan 22, 2009I've got a home firewall setup running CentOs 5.2. It's got two wired interfaces: inside and out and I'm successfully using iptables to filter and nat traffic in and out as expected. Recently I've added an AirLink101 AWLH4030 wireless nic that is recognized as the AR5212/AR5213 chipset. It appears that I have everything configured properly and I've eradicated every error encountered so far. Currently, I have my ath0 interface up and essid set but am unable to connect or even see the AP from my laptop. Here is a metric shit ton of debug/output for any networking gurus to ponder over:

Aug 25, 2010I just upgraded from Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit, to CentOS 5.5 64-bit and my RT-73 USB network card doesn't seem to want to function. It always worked fine in Ubuntu by default (plug and play). Is there some setting I need to make to get this working?Even BT-3 (which is quite old) recognizes the RT-73.

Dec 17, 2009I have an HP Pavilion A6750F with an AMD Phenom 9650 Quad Core. 8 GB memoryThe NIC is a REALTEC Semiconductor RLT8111/81688 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller.The actual MAC address for the NIC is 00:24:21:55:DE:40I have loaded CentOS 5.3 on this host three of four times in various configurations and patching levels.THE PROBLEM: The system identifies the NIC as having MAC FE:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF.When this happens, the network connectivity obviously stops working.It identifies everything else OK, just maps the wrong MAC.I'm no sure how to troubleshoot this problem. I tried rebooting a couple times and once that fixed it. Usually it does not. I reloaded (gasp) Windows Vista on it and it worked ok.This last time, I reloaded CentOS it hung on the bootup (ASK ??), I reset it, it rebooted and everything looks ok; for now.
The system says it is presently using driver r8169

Apr 13, 2009I installed CentOS 5.3 on my Shuttle SS-31T with SiS 190 network adapter. While booting the message "Bringing up eth 0 [ OK ]" appears. After booting it isn't possible to surf to an internet location (p.a. www.google.com). It's also impossible to ping other machines in the network. After typing ifconfig everything seems to be ok.
ipv6 is turned off

Subnet : 255.255.255.0

Ubuntu Networking :: Atheros AR8152 Ethernet In 11.04?
May 2, 2011I realise there are a few threads of issues with the AR8152 chipset and Ubuntu 11.04, however, my issue does not appear to be the same as others, nor does there appear to be a consistent solution yet. My ethernet worked fine in Ubuntu 10.10, but after upgrading to 11.04, I experience the errors I am about to explain. I also experience these when booting off a Ubuntu 11.04 Live CD, so it's not just the upgrade the caused the issues. The issue is, if I turn on my system without the ethernet cable plugged in, and then plug the ethernet cable in once I've logged into Ubuntu, the system will not detect it, at all. No amount of network manager of dhclient eth0 will get it to function, however, the device itself still appears in the system. If I turn the system on with the ethernet plugged in, however, it will get an IP address and function correctly. I tried to download the drivers from Atheros and build them, but for whatever reason it complained about me not having autoconf.h or automake.h (can't remember which), despite having build-essentials and linux-headers-generic installed.
