Apr 28, 2009I'm running a fresh install on an intel i7 system on an asus p6t deluxe v2 motherboard with the onboard NIC (Marvell Technology pci-e). I know the NIC is working as when I boot into the onboard OS that Asus provides (Asus Express Gate SSD)I have a working net connection.Booting up CentOS hangs at determining IP information for eth0 and eventually fails with the following error:PING xxx.170.30.1 from xxx.170.31.231 eth0: 56(84) bytes of data---xxx.170.30.1 ping statistics ---4 packets transmitted, o received, +3 errors, 100% packet loss, time 2999ms, pipe 3 failed.

Dec 18, 2010I have loded centos 5 on vertual machine, my host machine is windows xp and has two NIC cards working perfectly well
1) realtek RTL 8139 family PCI fast eathernet NIC
2) realtek 8169/8110 family gigabite ethernet NIC ( ONBOARD)
but both of them are not getting detected by CENTOS

May 4, 2009I was try to compile the drirver from cd asus, but my lan card still not detected in centos 5.3. when i bringing up eth0 its show like : "the atl2 device eth0 does not to be present, delaying initialization."iwas suft on google some driver but all driver just to centos 5.3 when i install the rpm it does not work. i love centos i dont want to change my lovely centos.

Dec 22, 2010I've got brand new Dell Optiplex 380 (Intel E8400 chipset) that I wanted to use to test new KVM virtual environment, after installing Centos 5.5 - (64bit) I'm not getting any further than "egrep '(vmx|svm)'color= always /proc/cpuinfo" as it is not showing that CPU is capable of VMX. Now this URL... says that it is perfectly up to what I want from it. I specifically installed W2k3 server R2 on the same box previously to run these apps, just to be sure URL...everything was nice and green and according Windows and those apps perfectly VMX-capable, but still CentOS isn't recognizing VMX capabilities.BIOS settings are all enabled...

Dec 4, 2010installing drivers for my onboard NIC card on my ASUS Nettop EB1007. The NIC is a JMC250 PCI Express GB. I first installed CentOS 5 on it and then it wouldnt show up. So I decided to try installing with Ubuntu and it was perfect. I didnt have to do anything else to get it detected. However, I would like CentOS 5 on this unit to practice on. Below is my attempt to install the kmod-jme-1.0.6.1-2.el5.elrepo.i686.rpm on a fresh CentOS install. Unfortunately, the dependencies are failing.

Sep 23, 2009I try to install CentOS 5.3 for the first time. The installation of system is completed successfully, but the computer isn't detected the installation of CentOS after rebooting and I have an error Non-System Disk or Disk Error Replace and strike any Key When Ready on starting. Does the hard disk have error and it should replace it? If the hard disk have errors, how the system CentOS could take hold?

Feb 8, 2010I have postfix setup with amavisd and I tried to send myself an email with the eicar file however it lets the email go through to my inbox. When I restart the amavisd service, there are no errors in the log and it finds all the decoders for different file types and I also see this come up:

Everything seems to work but it doesn't scan the file for viruses. Also, I've double and triple checked and my amavisd.conf file doesn't have the option enabled to bypass virus scanning.
CentOS 5 :: Detecting And Mounting Serial Mouse/trackball?
May 7, 2009I am attempting to use a serial trackball in CentOS 5.3 and have run out of ideas. The mouse is connected to COM2 (/dev/ttyS1). I have tried to configure it through xorg.conf using every protocol I could find including "auto" and tried the same again using "inputattach". The mouse communicates at 1200 baud, so I've tried using stty to set the port to that baud rate and still no luck. Is there a test tool that can be used to see if the serial connection is functioning? If not, are there any other ideas?

I Have the original driver but these don't work and nic is not recognized. I downloaded the version of centos 5.4, but the nic is realy recognized but if tape ifconfig eth0 the message is device not found. I have a single disk running the base OS and just installed 2 x Seagate 500GB SATA 3.0 drives in a RAID1 set that I would like to use for data storage. The OS sees the drives individually but not the RAID. Has anyone worked with a similar board and has any ideas what I need to do to get the OS to recognize the RAID1 array?

May 19, 2011djmack-5/19/2011-I have purchased an ASUS K52J (intel i7) laptop. I have installed Centos 5.5 (64 bit) from CDs. The I got all the updates and it's now up to 5.6. I have two problems.
(problem-1) - Using the GUI (System->Administration->Hardware) I can get to a Device Manager screen. It shows a JMC250 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller. Using the GUI (System->Administration->Network) I can only see the wireless (wlan0) as configured and active. The ethernet card is not seen as ether 0. I've seen there are downloads to solve this problem, however I've been 100% unable to do and or understand them. I don't know how to build the kernel and I don't have any source code. I only have the binaries (I think). Is there a version of the kernel that I can put on CDs that has understanding of the ether card I referenced above?
P.S. I've downloaded a binary fix and it says it needs 20 or so dependencies (I have zero idea how to get those).
P.S. I've downloaded a source fix and I couldn't get it to install (I'm not a linux kernel build knowlegable person). I don't have the source either.
(problem-2):As stated above I need direct (RJ45) access to the laptop. I currently have the wireless card working but I have no idea how to get this to work with httpd, ssh, scp.I can access things via a web browser right on the laptop. I cannot access this laptop via a web browser from any other box. I cannot access this box via ssh or scp.I disabled the firewall and I disabled the SELinux security.I am stumped as to why I cannot see this ASUS laptop via httpd and/or ssh/scp.I can ssh and scp to other linux servers but these servers cannot ssh or scp into this laptop.
CentOS 5 Hardware :: Asus Eee Thin Box - Ethernet Doesn't Work & Difficulty With X?
Mar 23, 2009Centos 5.2 Asus Eee box with Atom N270 and it came installed with "eLinux" which doesn't even come close to meeting my needs (low demand intranet server). But eLinux did work as far as I tested it.
First, CentOS seems to detect the Intel 945GME video chip but I end up with a blank screen. I used text mode to install CentOS. Then I searched for a solution. Found someone suggested also using the i915 driver with 945GM. That didn't work.
So, I reverted to a VESA driver. That worked except I couldn't get resolution greater than 800x600 even after I added a Mode line for 1024x768 to the xorg.conf file. However, the X interface wasn't that important. I mostly wanted into the utilities so I could fix the network.
I had tried a fixed address (192.168.1.11) since the box is supposed to be a "thin server." No luck. So, I tried DNS and tried activating again. The suggestion was that the network cable wasn't connected. When using DNS, the network hub lights flash. Something is happening.
Rebooted the computer using Puppy Linux (on a usb key). Video comes up in VESA mode. I can set it to 1024x768. It found the DNS server without any complaints. (Note: I didn't so much as touch the ethernet cable during the reboot).
Copying and Pasting isn't easy with a computer that won't connect to the LAN. But the hardware is a Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 2). I since tried Slackware 12.1 and it's pretty happy on that box. Vesa mode gets me 1024x768 and the ethernet works (however it thinks it's on eth1 which may or may not be a clue). I'll try CentOS on an old box for other testing.

Apr 8, 2010I am trying to clone a working Centos 5.4 system onto a new box with a ASUS P5KPL-CM motherboard. I have done so by plugging in a Realtec lan card - but can't get the motherboard lan working. Googling tells me the motherboard has a Atheros L1E lan chip - but I have installed several kmod drivers from ELREPO - but still can't get the on-board lan working. So far I have installed:
kmod-atl1e
kmod-atl1
I have just installed these with yum - but no new hardware appears in the network gui dialogue. Am I missing some step here - or is there another driver I should be looking for.

Feb 19, 2010I just started setting up a linux box in the office...I have some experience with ssh commands but not setting up a linux system and stuff.The box is connected to our network but I have no clue how to make windows & osx talk with it. How can I go by doing that and also setting up an apache server to be able to connect through network. Right now I have apache/linux/mysql running it works when i go to localhost, but I would also like to let all the computers in office to access it. I would guess that will deal with virtual host which I know how to setup. I just need to setup an IP.

Jan 20, 2011The situation: computer based on Asus P6T motherboard. Two RAIDS:
- 'boot', on motherboard built-in RAID controller (CentOS 5.5 installed on this RAID)
- 'data' on 3dware RAID card
At one moment a CPU fan fails and the system halts. After the fan is replaced, BIOS informs it's reset and all the inner controller data are forgotten. After I switch it to 'RAID' mode, it remembers it was a mirror raid (RAID 1) installed, but the file system on it is completely trashed.
The 'data' RAID run by external controller isn't affected by the system failure. Three questions:
- is it worth trying to install OS on the rebuilt 'boot' RAID once again? Looks like if BIOS settings are lost for some reason, there's chance of completely losing RAID data
- has someone encountered similar problem with built-in RAID nd was it possible to recover data?
- will the software RAID be worth creating instead of using hardware RAID to replace the 'boot' drive?
CentOS 5 Networking :: Centos 5.2 / Hyper-V/ Bridge With Synthetic Adapters Does Not Work?
Jan 27, 2009I have a Centos 5.2 VM running under Windows 2008 Hyper-V. If I add two "legacy Nic's" and bridge them, everything appears to work fine. However, if I remove the legacy nics and replace them with two synthetic nics (linux integration components), the nics seems to function fine UNTIL I add them to a bridge.This VM will eventually be used as a DansGuardian/Squid transparent proxy for a local library. The logical layout is represented by the attached jpg image. I have also included the ifcfg- scripts for the adapters and bridge for both scenarios.It would also be useful if someone else has Hyper-V with the integration components and dual physical nics to see if they can reproduce my symptoms on their box.Legacy Adapters:

Do I need to install a newer kernel and install ath9k or can I just downlad a driver without updating the kernel?
