CentOS 5 :: Computer Not Detecting New Installation

Sep 23, 2009

I try to install CentOS 5.3 for the first time. The installation of system is completed successfully, but the computer isn't detected the installation of CentOS after rebooting and I have an error Non-System Disk or Disk Error Replace and strike any Key When Ready on starting. Does the hard disk have error and it should replace it? If the hard disk have errors, how the system CentOS could take hold?

Ubuntu Networking :: Winbond USB WiFi W89C35 Not Detecting Other Computer

May 1, 2010

I've got two computers, with one (my current one I'm posting with) acting as a bridge for the other to access the internet (ICS, yay). Under windows there's no problems, everything goes smoothly on boot up. However I got a copy of Ubuntu 9.10 via mail a little while ago and got around to installing it today with the intention of updating it to 10 while I'm sitting here programming. Thus far, I haven't had any luck getting the networking to happen. As far as I can tell,

Here's what's going on:

Ubuntu sees the USB dongle Lights are flashing on it, it's got power and being interacted with Ubuntu's Wireless Network dock icon has entries for two nearby WiFi networks (my own with password, and someone else next door, also passworded so I can't try theirs) Ubuntu asks for a key to use with logging in After 20-30 seconds of trying it asks again for a key to log in.

lshw -C Network shows:

Code:

lsusb shows

Code:

Sudo iwlist scanning correctly identifies two access points, however it can't seem to identify what the encryption type is on my computer.

I'm using WEP encryption for my Wii to be able to get online, and the password is set correctly (yay for show key). Looking at this computer's activity monitor I can see the mac address of the USB key.

Disabling password protection on my computer gets Ubuntu to recognize that there is indeed an unlocked network available now, however it fails to connect, once again.

Am I better off just ordering a copy of Ubuntu 10 on CD? Besides sneaker net with a 1 gig tumb drive there's not much I can do to get drivers over.

Now this URL... says that it is perfectly up to what I want from it. I specifically installed W2k3 server R2 on the same box previously to run these apps, just to be sure URL...everything was nice and green and according Windows and those apps perfectly VMX-capable, but still CentOS isn't recognizing VMX capabilities.BIOS settings are all enabled...

CentOS 5 Server :: Amavisd Not Detecting Viruses?

Feb 8, 2010

I have postfix setup with amavisd and I tried to send myself an email with the eicar file however it lets the email go through to my inbox. When I restart the amavisd service, there are no errors in the log and it finds all the decoders for different file types and I also see this come up:

Feb 8 14:45:44 Mailgate amavis[3116]: Using primary internal av scanner code for ClamAV-clamd
Feb 8 14:45:44 Mailgate amavis[3116]: Found secondary av scanner ClamAV-clamscan at /usr/bin/clamscan

Everything seems to work but it doesn't scan the file for viruses. Also, I've double and triple checked and my amavisd.conf file doesn't have the option enabled to bypass virus scanning.

CentOS 5 :: Detecting And Mounting Serial Mouse/trackball?

May 7, 2009

I am attempting to use a serial trackball in CentOS 5.3 and have run out of ideas. The mouse is connected to COM2 (/dev/ttyS1). I have tried to configure it through xorg.conf using every protocol I could find including "auto" and tried the same again using "inputattach". The mouse communicates at 1200 baud, so I've tried using stty to set the port to that baud rate and still no luck. Is there a test tool that can be used to see if the serial connection is functioning? If not, are there any other ideas?

Ubuntu Installation :: 9.10 Not Detecting /dev/sdb On Install ?

Apr 7, 2010

Obviously I can't install to it if I can't select it from the drop down menu. Not that it really matters, but this happens with both 64 and 32 bit versions, clean disc, no errors. I've also tried xubuntu 32-bit.

I can install Slackware on it, or for all I know every other OS. I can find it with cfdisk, fdisk, gparted, etc. I can format it in windows and use it as a drive If I try to install ubuntu from windows on it once I boot into ubuntu to finish the install it goes in an infinite loop of something like 'no root filesystem please reconfigure (or something like that), hit ok, repeates the message until I get tired of hitting ok and reboot. Always lists it under places as '500gb filesystem' even if there are no assigned partitions on it. I've rebuilt the partition table with fdisk analyzed it with disktest (drivetest? something test or testsomething) I've considered giving up and using another distro...

Fedora Installation :: F11 Not Detecting Storage Devices

Jun 14, 2009

I've been running F10 with a four disk RAID5 setup that has been working fine, however when I tried to do a fresh install of F11 I can't get past the "Select Country" and "Select Keyboard" screen of the GUI as a message will say "Detecting Storage Devices" and then throw up an error. I can't give you the full error, because when I click Save The Detecting Storage Devices box appears and I can not select anything under it or enter my Bugzilla account. However, when I plug just the hard drive that has XP on it then the installer continues swimmingly.I've backed up everything, so if I have to I could zero out the drives however they're all rather large so it'd take an inordinate amount of time.

Ubuntu Installation :: 11.04 Not Detecting Windows 7 Partition?

Apr 30, 2011

After putting this off forever, I've finally decided to delete my old XP OS and install Ubuntu on it as a dualboot option along with my existing Windows 7 x64 install. However, I'm having a common issue in that both Gparted and fdisk do not detect the partitions of my main boot disk and shows the entire disk as unallocated. I've read a number of similar threads with some great responses from many of the folks here on this forum. I've put together all the info I could think would be relevant.

1) I ran fdisk -l. Here is the output (This is from booting from the live CD). Sorry for the long logfile. I have a number of disks/partitions attached. The relevant disk of interest is /dev/sdb/

Code:
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install gdisk
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package gdisk
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo fdisk -l

[Code]...

/dev/sdb contains GPT signatures, indicating that it has a GPT table. However, it does not have a valid fake msdos partition table, as it should. Perhaps it was corrupted -- possibly by a program that does not understand GPT partition tables. Or perhaps you deleted the GPT table, and are now using an msdos paritions table. Invalid argument during seek for read on /dev/sdb

3) And this is a picture of the disk unders Windows 7 Disk Management. "Disk 3" is my main boot drive with Windows 7 on C:. The unallocated partition before it was where the old XP install was. I want to ideally install Ubuntu on that partition. Also, I should mention that "Disk 0" is a Drive from my old DELL PC that has a windows XP installation on it along with the boot info. I left it in there in case I wanted to swap it back into my old PC. However, it seems to confuse Ubuntu during the install as it detects only that XP installation but cannot read/detect the current Windows 7 install.

Ubuntu Installation :: Disc Not Detecting Native Resolution?

Dec 14, 2010

I am planning on installing Ubuntu on my new laptop with a native resolution of 1920x1080 however the install disc (I booted into the "test") part, sets my resolution to 2048x1536.Keeping it on 2048x1536 cuts off about 50 pixels on the right side of my screen so it must not be right. So I tried changing it from the "Monitors" settings back to 1920x1080 and everything is so large and it is stretched horizontally. Is this just because I'm running the "try me" part, or is there something wrong with Ubuntu and my video card?

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 Setup Process Not Detecting Hard Drives?

Apr 30, 2010

I'm trying to make a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 on my system. I have 9.10 correctly setup on what I see here as devsda2. devsda3 does contain /home. devsda1 is for Vista. They are on a 500Gb hard drive. I also have a second 500Gb hard drive, formerly on a raid 0 with the first one, but now independent (raid deactivated from bios). It is here know as /dev/sdb, and contains other 3 partitions. Raid 0 is not hardware, but is an intel fake raid.

I then have other 4 drives, causing me NO problem.

I start live mode of Ubuntu 10.04 with noraid option. When I try to setup Ubuntu, during the process, where it comes to manually select partitions, the two 500Gb hard drives disappears, such that I'm not able to install Ubuntu on what now is /dev/sda2

If I start live mode of Ubuntu without noraid option, I will see the two 500Gb hd as being part of a raid 0, such that I can't use them.

The other 4 hd normally appear in both cases.

Debian Installation :: Installing Stretch Stops At Detecting Network Devices

Oct 11, 2015

Installing stretch stops at detecting network devices. This is an attempt to install stretch over the top of Windows 10 on a Toshiba Radius 15 with 2 each USB2 ports and 2 each USB3 ports, and no RJ-45. Its wireless is based upon the Intel 7265. Just before the presentation of the wireless list, the system reports the need to install non-free:

iwlwifi-7265D-9
iwlwifi-7265D-10
iwlwifi-7265D-11
iwlwifi-7265D-12

and asks for media. Whether I respond yes or no, the driver selection screen comes up. [I have not been able to find those four specific files on the Internet. The network card screen comes up, I select the Intel recommended firmware iwlsifi, but the page just recreates itself and waits for a new selection. If I select either 'none' or 'not listed', the installation fails saying there is no network card.I have obtained from Intel their suggestion as of Aug 2015: iwlwifi-7265-ucode-25.30.14.0.tgz.I placed this on a USB stick in a subdirectory labeled 'firmware'. This was built from Windows 7 on a FAT32 file system.

There is also a Dynadock docking station that connects to the Toshiba via a USB3 cable. Besides video, USB,and audio, this has an Ethernet port. I have tried this connected to the laptop but it also requires a driver. I have placed that driver on the firmware directory of the USB also.

Are the four files listed above somehow inside the iwlwifi driver tgz?Is there a way to get the docking station drive to load so I can use its Ethernet port?

I have used Rufus to build the stretch USB from Windows. I do have a a Linux box I built with the same USB. I would use it but so far, I only have a command line on it and I have not figured out how to access debian.org to download the installation files nor how to put that on the stick.
