CentOS 5 :: LDAP On C5 With Plesk Says It Starts But Doesn't

I'm installing OpenLDAP on a VSP server, CentOS 5 with Plesk at 1and1. I've tested the slapd.conf file with slaptest and it returns ok. I've tried to start ldap with /sbin/service ldap start and it says it is ok and starts. But if I try to run ldapadd I get an error message saying that it could not contact the ldap server. I check the status with /sbin/service ldap status and it show that it is not running. I can do /sbin/service ldap start, it will say it started and turn around and check the status and it will show that it is not running. Would something in Plesk be killing ldap as soon as it starts? I installed OpenLDAP via yum and have been following directions found in a couple of ldap guides.

Until today Plesk 9.3.0 works finely on my ubuntu 8.04 dedicated server. Then i tried to install proFTPd and after that Plesk chashs.
Now i want to reinstall my plest but i have a problem i get lots of error messanges like that

trying to configure a Centos 5.5 server (simple file server with DHCP and DNS relay). I configured and tested the config (by 'service dnsmasq configtest') of dnsmasq and I got the message 'dnsdomain:host unknown (translation of the real message : hte inconnu) and I didn't find where I could define this host ! The hostname of the server is well defined and I can see it from all Windows PC's on the LAN. dnsmasq starts (with hte same message as in configtest) but when querying DNS from PC's te.g. trying to surf the Internet), I don't get replies (3 DNS servers are also well defined and operational).

I installed CentOS 5.2 and then run yum update. I configured this server as LDAP/Samba primary domain controller. LDAP seems to be OK and for testing I am able to create users with:smbldap-tools useradd -am usernameI can ssh into the server as root and also as a Linux user which was locally created in the server. But ssh into the server as LDAP user fails (from a Fedora 11 machine) with "Permission denied, please try again", prompting again for password.Some data:

I am using centos 5.5 x85_64 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5 The server is hanging at start up due to the follwoing error
udevd[746] nss_ldap reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 4 seconds)
udevd[746] failed to bind to LDAP ser er ldap://192.168.0.100 cant contact ldap
It fails and then tries again, and again, each time increasing the sleep time. This is happening before network sercvices are started so ther is no way it can connect to ldap. anyone know a way to fix this problem?

If I ssh from my laptop (running F10) to the server (centos 5.2) it asks for the password, but everytime I enter the correct password it says incorrect password. when I do the same from the server to my laptop I can get in just fine. I think my passwords are stored as ssha in the LDAP (I tried clear passwords and that dosen't work either).

My adsl device currently used as Auto eth0 only works when i plug in to the computer. The device doesn't starts automatically as it does in Windows. How can solve this ? Each time I try to connect internet after restarting , I should manually plug the cable to the port.

in Debian Lenny, using TightVNC 1.3.9 I can setup a VNC server manually by using

But then, as I have read is a better option, I use xinetd with the following configuration:

In fact, I was considering that the problem was with xinetd, but I have other services setted up with it (telnet & ftp for example) and I can use them correctly.
So now I'm lost with this, what else am I not considering with VNC service through xinetd? Where can I find logs or useful information to get a clue about this problems?

So far, I've been able to get my Box (Centos 5.3) authenticate users through LDAP. My next plan was to automount their home directory from our NAS device.But I'm struggling getting autofs talking to the LDAP Server.My Config Files:

I hope this is in the right spot, and I have searched but haven't been able to find anything to help me out.
I installed GIMP recently, it worked for awhile, but now it will not open up even after the 'Starting GIMP...' appears. That goes and nothing happens. I've tried un-installing and installing via the software centre as well as via the terminal with no success. Will be happy to go through steps again if someone gives me some guidance.

I've gotten everything working on my laptop except the webcam. I'm trying to use webkam (from kde repo) but the launcher starts up but the program doesn't start. The driver is "uvcvideo" which loads with no error messages.

I have a Ubuntu box (10.10 x64) that i use for XBMC (a media center), everything works fine when i boot up and start adding network shares (the shares are on a Ubuntu 10.04 x64 Server). it doesn't matter if i use NFS or SAMBA to mount the shares, both work. BUT when i reboot i get problems The share mounts come up but to late, XBMC doesn't see the share when it starts.
The thing i see is : When i boot up the lights of my NIC (realtek 8111) are on and flickering, but just a few seconds before the login prompt comes up the lights are off. And then after 15 to 20 seconds everything comes up again, and the shares are mounted, but to late for XBMC (my mediacenter software) i've installed new drivers for my network card (removed r8169 and installed r8168 ) but the problem is still there.

I've got a computer i'm trying to VNC to.
The problem is that when the computer starts up/reboots it doesn't "Unlock the system keyring"(I think that's what it said).
When I try and attempt to connect to the computer it asks for the VNC password(as per normal) but fails to connect after that.
The reason is that the Ubuntu computer prompts for the user's password to unlock the system(locally).
What I want is to be able to turn on the computer without having to worry about entering the password. I've had it running fine on 8.04 yet the newer version seems to be annoying :s
The system is set to automatically login on startup too.
I've tried this: "delete the keyring folder under /home/XXXX/.gnome2" then setup remote desktop again. But that hasn't worked either. I still have to enter the password to a keyring

I have installed phpldapadmin 1.2.0.5 Using commands in shell I have added two users and some groups into a base (ldif-file) and I see them in phpldapadmin. But when I try to add users or groups by using graphical interface (phpldapadmin) I can't do this correctly because I can't to select a type of new entry and I see a tip "classes of objects from XML does not support LDAP-server". So I can't to create a new entry by using graphical interface. Here is my slapd.conf

The thing is I need a bigger server, but at the same time I'm having problems with cpanel and centos and I'm quite bored. So now I want to migrate from my cpanel server to the plesk server keeping the domain and it's content. I tried to create a ticket in plesk support but either I didn't bought the server yet. So, what's the quickier and safest way to migrate? Is there any script?

I'm trying to use and old Dell Dimension 2350 workstation with 1GB of RAM and a 200GB drive as a home server. I boot the CentOS 5.3 install DVD, get to the splash screen and hit ENTER to start the install. The install routine starts and then kernel panics with a very long trace I can't make sense of. I've used the DVD for other installs so I know the media is good.Are there any known quirks to installing linux on a Dimension 2350? Maybe some kernel line parameters like no acpi?? As a test, I took an Ubuntu server cd, and the install actually completed but on reboot it kernel panicked with a similar long trace error. Obviously this is most likely a hardware issue.

So my company just bought 2 mtbs with G31 + ICH7R chipset, both same model. Also they have 4GB Ram each with 2,5 - 250GB HDD Core 2 Duo E7500 CPU The first one went fine through the installation and it' s up and running while the other one, no matter if I use linux text linux text noprobe linux text dd noprobe irqpoll either in 5.3 or 5.4 x86 or 64
It starts booting and video just goes off, no error messages at all. Tried to install using the other motherboard, went fine, with hdd installed and working, it does the same thing, shows the Centos menu loading, start loading and video goes off.

Clients are not able to access FTP thru browser: ftp://IP.When you open it thru browser, it does not ask for a usename or password but shows a PUB diretory instead. I tried to telnet port 21 and shows that it is using VSFTP instead of Plesk's ProFtp.

We use Centos 5.3 which we deploy to dozens of boxes in different buildings throughout our shop. I set up KDE to be the default windows manager for these boxes, although the individual users can choose for themselves. We use LDAP authentication, and typically logging in through the LDAP into KDE goes without a hitch. However, a couple users are having problems logging in to their accounts through KDE, my boss and my boss's boss to be specific. We have NFS shares which serve up each users home directory regardless of where they connect in our system. When my boss, or his boss, try to log in, they put in their credentials, and LDAP accepts them, but KDE never starts. The splash screen which displays that it's "initializing system services" or "loading desktop" doesn't even come up, it just has a picture of the desktop with a cursor, and hangs there. I've tried deleting the .kde directories in their home folders, but that doesn't work. Those two are the only accounts out of our entire system that have problems logging in to KDE, and I have no idea why!
I've looked in the .xsession-errors file, here's a copy code...
I know it isn't the xset or "no profile" errors because all the users I've checked get those too, but they can log in just fine. Both xsession files on both users are almost identical to this one, it just seems that KDE will never start.

I am trying to determine which version of Ubuntu we have installed on our Webfusion VPS in order to see how to update to specific php and mysql versions needed for installing some software.
uname -a gives this:
Linux [hostname] 2.6.18-028stab070.2 #1 SMP Tue Jul 6 14:34:09 MSD 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I don't see anything that matches up to any of the Ubuntu releases. Is there any other way to determine what we have?
We have Plesk 9.5.2 on the machine.
Certain software we need to install requires PHP 5.2.10+ and Mysql 5.2+ but we currently have PHP 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.12 with Suhosin-Patch 0.9.6.2 and Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.51a
how to get the required versions of php and mysql (without breaking Plesk)? I tried editing /etc/apt/sources.list to add a new repository and using apt-get upgrade php but I probably did not add the correct repository.
