If I ssh from my laptop (running F10) to the server (centos 5.2) it asks for the password, but everytime I enter the correct password it says incorrect password. when I do the same from the server to my laptop I can get in just fine. I think my passwords are stored as ssha in the LDAP (I tried clear passwords and that dosen't work either).

I can login by doing;

at the client or server but I can't login by issuing;

I am having problems creating ssl certificates for use with openLDAP. Does anyone know a good centos tutorial as I am having problems finding ones by searching through google and the forums.
To clarify further I have a small network im trying to setup to use ldap for auth due to the size I figured using kerberos for auth would be a bit overkill.....
I have the server up and running fine however at the moment all auth is done by using clear text (which is fine as the network has no connection to the internet at current) however in the future it will so I am trying to use ssl however I am having confusing as which certificates I point to where in the slapd.conf file

I can add the client PC (Windows XP SP3) with the Domain Admin user (Manager) from the client PC, but when i try to add a user I get this message "The trust relationship between this workstation and primary domain failed", so as it can be added later I ignored this message and choose 'close' and reboot the PC. 2. Since the login screen is showed, the message 'Duplicate name exists on the network' appears. I'm testing upgrading from 11.1 to 11.3 and running into a major roadblock. When I try to ssh to the server after upgrading, I am unable to use password or pubkey auth to connect via ssh with my ldap user due to sshd segfault. I can however connect via pubkey to a local account on the system. Both auth methods work (for local users) when I disable UsePAM in sshd_config, but auth via ldap is required. My configuration works fine on fully patched installs of both 11.1 and 11.3, but not a fully patched 11.1 upgraded to 11.3. I've been at this for a while now trying various things but don't seem to be making much progress..

I've installed Directory Server (LDAP). The setup has been done according to the tutorials online. Able to access the interface as well. So far so good. The issue I have is with permissions. I can assign file permissions to a user created in the Directory Server ( user not created on the local server). But the same can't be done for a group - alteast the way I currently see it. How could i assign file system rights to a group created in the directory server.

This is a fresh install of CentOS 5.5. I'd love for VNC Server to start up as soon as the computer reboots. It seems my VNC Server only works when I log in using the GUI at the computer itself. After a reboot I can remotely SSH into it successfully, but cannot VNC to it. I then have to physically get to the computer and log into the GUI, and wa-la I can VNC to it. I have not edited any conf files - seeing as my last attempt at getting this working got me nowhere. I have only enabled Remote Desktop through the GUI.
How do I get SSHD to log EVERYTHING to it's own log file? I tried this in sshd_conf:

When ever I have an issue with our LDAP server (which I was able to fix) we see the following errors in /var/log/messages and it causes problems with our services running on that box, e.g. httpd, nrpe, xinetd, etc. Aug 8 17:44:42 hostname httpd: nss_ldap: failed to bind to LDAP server ldap://serveraddress/: Can't contact LDAP server Aug 8 17:44:42 hostname httpd: nss_ldap: reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 64 seconds)... I am only wanting to authenticate SSH and Sudo and not services like httpd, nrpe, xinetd etc.

However, If I try to run System->Administration->Users/Groups, when it asks for root password, it is rejected. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have openSSH installed and wish to log on to my Centos container (hosted by switchlinck.co.uk) from my Windows PC using putty. I can log on fine using by entering my username and password, but wish to use an rsa key to log on without a password. I have managed to create the keys with putty, and ammended them to work with openSSH. However, I am unable to find the authorized_keys file to put the key into. SSH is running but that file does not exist in /etc/ssh. When I read different how to sites for this, they all point towards ~/.ssh. I do not have a .ssh directory anywhere on the system. I have tried creating different users but still can not find this directory.
