everything works perfect including reboot and shutdown but not the hibernate or suspend (sleep). Whenever i try to do Suspend, my caps lock starts blinking and the screen goes white
View 2 RepliesI'm running fedora 13 on a Dell Latitude E6500. It's a dual 64-bit system.
It was working, but then I tried to swap caps lock and control.
I used:
System->Preferences->Keyboard
Layouts->USA->Options
Then, under Control Key Position, I selected swap caps lock and control.
Now, my keyboard won't work in the Keyboard Preferences test area or in any other window or when the screen-lock comes on.
I tried logging out. I tried rebooting. I tried deleting my .gnome2 directory. Nothing seems to work. I can use the keyboard on other accounts, so the keyboard is not the problem.
When I running fedora the caps lock & shift LEDs blinking continuously and system was hang.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI keep starting up Fedora and I'm not able to get far (although it's not always at the same time) before my screen will go black, except it shows the mouse/cursor - but it's frozen, and thhen the caps-lock light starts blinking and I can't do anything or get it to recover. Sometimes it happens after 30 seconds, sometimes 40+ seconds and sometimes within 15 or so seconds.
How do I stop this and diagnose this?
I've tried, in the boot-startup to choose an older kernel version, butt the same thing occurs!
I have:
Fedora 11
Kernel: 2.6.29.6-217.2.16.fc11 i586
Asus EEE PC 1002HA
One other thing, it does always seem to happen after I've turned on wireless. And I've been using F11 for months now with no issue.
Caps lock status is not passed thru tsclient. I'm running the latest lucid desktop 32bit. The whole setup was working 2 weeks ago.

Sony Vaio EB 16 FG - running ubuntu 10.10 froze while resuming from dimmed screen with blinking scroll lock and caps log LED. The scenario was this :- I just downloaded the acpi using synaptic package manager. Then installed laptop mode tool using synaptic. cat /proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode 0
Means its not yet enabled. But decided to remove it .(read drive spin up and down is not good for HDD) Had left the laptop for some time , it dimmed screen . When I resumed it froze. I restarted the computer multiple times without issue, and the menu would pop up asking me which os to load. Everything was good. But today I attempted to boot up my computer and nothing happens. The screen just stay black. The lights come on on the laptop, but nothing else. Either I try to boot it and it goes on then off quickly, or it just sits there, still on, with a black screen. I don't know if this is related, but when I was messing around with ubuntu yesterday after I installed it, it would randomly freeze and my caps lock light kept blinking on and off. I was forced to restart when this happened and then everything would be ok.

Just got Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm liking it a lot, but my computer refuses to go into hibernate or suspend. I have a Dell M1530 but I don't really think it's a dell hardware issue because it's not just when I close the screen, it's also when I click suspend or hibernate from the menu.

My desktop is a Compaq CQ5110F. It's a dual boot system and Fedora 11 resides on sda3 of hard disk (WD 3200AAJS-6).Both suspend and hibernate don't work, but the symptoms are different. For hibernate, after resume, there are some messages (??) about register errors quickly flashed on the screen, then the logon window shows but the system hangs. For suspend, I cannot wake up the system by hitting some keys on the keyboard. After I press the power button, LCD doesn't get any signal. I remember hibernate worked when I was using Fedora10, but wireless card did not automatically reconnect at that time. Also hibernate works fine for vista.

Normally I have transmission running and have set it to not enter sleep mode while torrents are active. However today I have not had transmission and was wanting to see if the sleep mode options would kick in. So I have set my display to "sleep when inactive for" 5 mins (this works perfect)
I have set "put computer to sleep when inactive for" 10 mins (this does not work at all)
When I try to manually test suspend my display flashes black for a few seconds but remains backlit, then asks me to log back in
When I manually go into hibernate mode my display turns off, pops back on for a second and in a terminal says something about a usb device (something failed but it happens so fast I cannot read it)
How do I enable suspend in Lenny currently I can shut down or hibernate. In ubuntu on a different computer I can suspend which resumes very quickly can this work on Lenny also it does not hibernate properly anyway, there are error messages.

I have Googled this one to death but found nothing. This problem existed in Xubuntu 9.10 and now still exists in Xubuntu 10.04. The keyboard I use is a Logitech Elite Keyboard. View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering why the num lock doesn't work in Ubuntu anymore? When you press the "num lock" key, you're supposed to be able to input the numbers along with + - * / and decimal point. When I press num lock and try typing numbers, nothing happens.
I've done a google search and this is a well known problem that nobody has fixed. In Windows it's never a problem.
Seems such a shame that the great Ubuntu and Linux are so good for stability and speed, but can't get a simple num lock working.
I know this doesn't matter to most people because most people hold shift to capitalize letters. I tap the caps lock with my pinky whenever I need something capitalized. I'm a pretty fast typer, I just don't type correctly. How do I get it so that when I'm typing and I hit Caps Lock for it to be an instant effect? For example this is what I'm getting annoyed with, here is an example of what I am having to recorrect everytime I type.

This layout is MUCH more logical than the original. Now Delete is the key just to the right of the Backspace key. Back spaces deletes to the left, and Delete deletes to the right, so these keys shoudl of course be next to each other Page Up, Page Down, Home, and End now have the same structure as the arrow keys below. The problem is that at seemingly random times the roles of the caps lock and control keys (and the other customisations) gets reverted back to normal - which makes for an awful lot of confusion! Running xmodmap again switches them to how I like it, but again after a seemingly random period it resets itself. This occurs under KDE and Gnome in F13, but did not occur in F12. Using the KDE keyboard settings dialog to switch caps lock and control does the exhibits the same behaviour.
I have a web server running on my laptop(in fact , it's a netbook). But I found it always hibernate automatically in a certain time .(In fact , I don't know what's the differences between hibernate or suspend. So I call this hibernate instead.) I am sure I have disabled the hibernate function in Power-Management from the System menu. But it still hibernates as usual.So could someone tell me how to disable it ( suspend,hibernate whatever )?
