I'm trying to get a Rosewill RNX-N250PC wireless card w/ ralink rt3062 chip to work in a new build. I am able to see the card in Device Manager, but can't get the driver to work despite trying many of the suggestions I've read elsewhere. I installed build-essentials and downloaded the driver from ralink. I unzipped the folder, and started to follow README as well as this thread rt3062 [URL]. So, I've adjusted MODE and TARGET as instructed in Makefile. I also adjusted the following sections of red text from Makefile:
ifeq ($(PLATFORM),PC)
# Linux 2.6
LINUX_SRC = /lib/modules/$(2.6.35-22-generic)/build
# Linux 2.4 Change to your local setting
#LINUX_SRC = /usr/src/linux-2.4
LINUX_SRC_MODULE = /lib/modules/$(2.6.35-22-generic)/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/
CROSS_COMPILE =
endif
Then I set HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=y and HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=y in /os/linux/config.mk in the driver folder.
Then I code: $ make (also tried sudo make with same result)
and get:
make -C tools
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/das/2010_07_16_RT3062_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0/tools'
gcc -g bin2h.c -o bin2h
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/das/2010_07_16_RT3062_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0/tools'
/home/das/2010_07_16_RT3062_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0/tools/bin2h
cp -f os/linux/Makefile.6 /home/das/2010_07_16_RT3062_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0/os/linux/Makefile
make -C /lib/modules//build SUBDIRS=/home/das/2010_07_16_RT3062_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0/os/linux modules
make: *** /lib/modules//build: No such file or directory. Stop.

other forums to get my Zonet ZEW1642D to work on my new install of Ubuntu Studio 10.10. None of the how-tos I've found APPEAR to have worked although I guess I'm not entirely sure how I would know. There is a pair of computers at the top right of my screen by the date/time. When I right click there the following are all checked:
Enable Networking
Enable Wireless
Enable Notifications
but when I click Connection Information Auto eth0 is the only connection that comes up (which must be the wired connection I'm using to submit this) Here are the things I've tried:
1) README_STA included in the driver files downloaded from the Ralink website although I must admit this was a bit over my head
2) http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1045703
3) http://www.hyperborea.org/journal/20...i-ralink-3062/

With any download that i start (whether ftp/http/bittorrent/etc..) I get download speeds of no more than about 100 KiB/s...which is decent, but I usually I know my internet speed is max at about 600 KiB/s. If I go to Network Mananger (while a download is in progress), and click on my wireless network, it will disconnect, then reconnect, and I'll get download speeds of up around 600 KiB/s for a period of about 20-30seconds...then, I'm back down to the 50 KiB/s - 100 KiB/s.
Fedora can download at max speed for a little bit, but then goes down to about 100KiB/s for the rest of time (until I disconnect and reconnect again). Why does this happen, and how can I get my speed to stay at maximum potential? Also, Fedora 10 recognized my wireless network card when i had installed F10. But I'm worried that the best driver wasn't used for it. I've found my actual driver that I used on windows vista/xp, and installed that via ndiswrapper, but i don't think that ndiswrapper disabled my old driver... am i right about this? Maybe a solution to my problem would be to disable the driver that came preinstalled on F10, so it can use my newly installed one instead?

I have a Netgear WG511GE PCMCIA card, and a driver from the original installation disk. I used an ndiswrapper-utils gui called ndisgtk to install the driver. I then do the following to verify an installation:
[Code]....
Unfortunately, when I put the PCMCIA card in, nothing happens. On Windows, a green light flashes even if the card is not connected to any network. At first I thought this might be a hardware issue, so I did #lspci and got:
[Code]....
Lo and behold, when I put a different unbranded Wireless PC Card in it works. I'm no expert in Networks, but to me this suggests a driver problem (i.e. the card is physically detected it just won't work). However, the correct driver was installed with ndisgtk and this was verified with #ndiswrapper -l, hence the confusion.
I'd be grateful if anyone else has had this problem/knows of this problem and is willing to share the solution with me/point me in the right direction. So far, Google has returned a few posts from a few years ago talking about patching kernels and manually building files etc (just before Prism54 became integrated into the Linux kernel).

I just got a new Sandy Bridge motherboard which comes with a single Intel 82579v network port adapter.
Does anyone know a way to make the Intel 82579v network port work with Linux on Fedora 14?
I tried finding an Intel Linux driver online for it but no luck so far.
I read something online about it may have the newer kernel drivers available for the Fedora kernel, but not familiar with how that works.

a Toshiba L650 laptop, and installed F13 x86-64 on a disk partition using install DVD. The wired ethernet on this is Atheros AR8152, and the Wireless is Broadcomm 4313. Both these devices are not supported by default. So, as per instructions on the Linux Wireless site, and some guidance on this forum, have downloaded the Broadcomm driver tar on another machine, copied it onto the Toshiba laptop using a USB device, and then extracted, and ran the b43-fwcutter. The subdirectory /lib/firmware/b43 is created and has approx 3 dozen files. However, the Broadcomm driver is not showing up as an option in the Network Manager (system-config-network) or in the lsmod command output. I tried to manually add it by doing modprobe b43 command - it then begins to appear in the lsmod, but the option to add the Broadcomm wireless driver during a "New wireless Hardware" is not appearing still. I think, at an abstract level, I need to somehow "tell" the system to add the Broadcomm driver - am just not sure how to do so. On the other hand, the Atheros AR8152 has no driver as of now, so the wired Ethernet is also not connecting. how I can download all the required files on a different machine, and then install it on the Toshiba laptop?

I have been having trouble with the install of Ubunto in general. First problem is that my realtek network drivers rtl8168 are giving me some problems. I have followed advice from other threads for disactivating the NIC and disconnecting the power for 10seconds. This works in that Ubunto can recognize the hardware (hardware active), but it says it is not in use. Furthermore, I try to define the IP address manually and it does not allow me to press apply. Therefore I cannot connect to the internet.
I though I would try a fresh install of the latest Ubuntu. I did not have the internet connected (due to drivers). After the partitioning section (I partitioned over Ubunto 9.10), on the screen where it says select Username, computer name etc. some files were loaded, and at the end it says ready when you arebut I was not able to move forward. I dont now why. Ultimately I reboot the computer Now I get this message upon booting (I am still booting from USB)
GRUB Loading
error: unknown filesystem
grub rescue

When I try to install I get what is below. How do I resolve? Do I need to identify where the driver is? If so, how?

I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 beside my Windows XP on my laptop:
Dell XPS 1330
I`m now facing some problems with my new OS :
1. The driver for my wireless network card isn't recognized although I have installed the recommended driver which was in Ubuntu Hardware Driver section.
2. When I connect my laptop to my TV using HDMI port, the screen is OK but there is no sound!
3. When by any reason my network cable is unplugged, the whole network service goes down and I have to restart the system.

I am relatively new to linux and am running into a problem. I just got a new laptop and need to configure/install it's wireless driver but am getting an error when running "make". The error is: make[1]: Entering directory `/lib/modules/2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop/build' make[1]: *** No rule to make target `modules'. Stop.
I have scoured these forums and know that others have the same issue (when configuring other drivers/programs). I am sorry if this post is redundant. It sounds like the Makefile is pointing to the wrong directory. I am using opensuse 11.4, have make and gcc installed. My kernel is linux-2.6.37.1-1.2 (I just re-installed the desktop kernel to make sure it was up to date). The driver I am trying to install is located here: AUR (en) - rtl8192ce.
Another forum suggests pointing somewhere in the /usr/src/linux-2.6.37.1-1.2 directory instead. Is this correct? Should I be pointing to a folder within this? I am not a programmer but any description about what I am actually putting in this directory and why would be awesome (so I can learn a bit more). Or just helping me solve the problem would be great too.

Need to install b43 driver to use monitor mode on my card - versions are compatible, I ran
Code:
sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
As told, but instructions end there. Pressed yes to download and extract firmware. Do I need to activate this driver somehow?
Info on wireless card:
Code:
tnt@Artemis:~$ lspci -vnn | grep 14e4
0c:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] (rev 01)

I've been snooping around on the forums for a couple of hours now looking for a straightforward guide to installing custom wireless drivers. I have a new Airlink101 AWLH6075 wireless card (and no ethernet connectivity.) The Linux drivers are the RT2860 Ralink drivers in a .tar, which I have on a different computer.
So -- I'm on Server (command-line only), 64-bit, no working internet. Btw, the wifi card works fine on my alternate boot of Windows. wlan0 (wlan1?) is not detected during installation.
So, I know I need to:
1. mount the usb drive I'm storing the file(s) on
2. put those files in my local Linux directory
3. somehow install them
4. (disable my old ethernet connection?)
5. enable my new wlan0 and set up dhcp and the WEP login.
[Code]...
I would greatly appreciate any help I can get with any of these things. I don't even know how to mount a USB stick in command-line... but obviously the internet connectivity (and thus driver installation) is the major issue here and I can find out most of the other stuff on my own.

I have a desktop and I just installed ubuntu 10.04 as a dual boot with windows 7. My desktop has a wireless ZEW1642S card. I don't have access to a wired internet connection, but I can use the wireless on my windows 7 fine. It seems like there is no driver for it to work on ubuntu, and since I don't have an internet connection while in ubuntu, it seems I can't update it of course because I need internet to update. My wireless network does NOT have a password if that even means anything for this. I have the exe installer for the driver for it but I don't know how I'm supposed to get the INF file or whatever.

I've just changed from Fedora 8 to Fedora 10 and I'm having trouble installing a special alternative keyboard driver.
I used to be able to put the driver in the xkb/symbols directory, make entries for it in xkb/rules/base.xml and base.lst, and install with the System menu. Now I find that the Gnome tool no longer seems to be using the base files, and my driver doesn't show up.
Does anyone know where Gnome gets its list of drivers from? Alternatively, can I install it by editing a configuration file?
