Hardware :: Compiling Driver For Belkin USB Router?
Oct 2, 2010
I have a old laptop Dell C600 PIII 800mhz 256mb RAM 20Gb HDD and a floppy drive. It has 1 USB port and no wifi card.
I bought the Belkin F6D4050 v1 usb wireless adapter so that I could use it on the above laptop and connect to my wireless network at home. The Belkin USB wireless adapter has a Ralink xchipset
There was no specific Linux driver available but a workaround for an old driver worked. Some changes to the code and compiling gets the wireless adapter to work.
I have installed Arch on the laptop. I compiled it and its working fine
Questions 1.Arch linux releases new image only once or twice a year I have downloaded the latest available arch image and built froms scratch. When I update Arch (as it is a rolling release) the kernel also gets updated and the compiled driver fails to work. I have to recompile again for the new kernel. Is there a way I can compile this driver in the existing Arch or any other distro kernel and use as long as I can without updating so I do not have to recompile again

Because of the configuration of my house, I need two routers.I have a DLink ADSL router as my main router and the Belkin N1 as my repeater.I have set up the IP address in the Belkin to be 10.1.1.10 - my DLink is 10.1.1.1. I have disable the dhcp in the Belkin and set the DNS as ISP provided. [URL]..I have set the channel to 11 and in the Ubuntu Network Manger I have set the IPV4 to Link Local Only. I can see the Belkin and connect with my PC.but it will not take me through to the internet.

I have a new belkin N1 router which I tested in somebody else's flat. It worked fine. When I got home I reset it by pushing a paperclip in the hole for 10+ seconds to erase this flat's internet connection settings (username and password and stuff). After this I plugged it the computer and tried to connect to it (wired connection) using 192.168.2.1 (this is correct for that router, it is not 192.168.0.1). But the browser says it is offline and cannot connect. The lights of the router cycle, the "modem router" light blinks continuously and the others briefly come on and go off again, every few seconds. I tried resetting it again, several times, leaving it off for a few hours, leaving it on for a few hours, etc.

I have ran all of the troubleshooting tips in ubuntu its self and everthing seems in order. is there any settings i need to change on my router or in ubuntu's edit connections programe? I managed to connect to the router once to upgrade from 10.10 to the 11.04 but even before upgrading to 11.04 i had problems connecting to the router.

I joined this forum so I can say my experience with the crappy belkin N150 router. It appears you need to run the setup cd under windows to make the router 'see' the modem. Under linux as someone pointed out you can easily enter the router setup from a browser ( enter 192.168.2.1 ) and connect to the router only (wired or wireless connection) but not the internet. Does anyone have any idea what the windows setup is doing to connect the router to the modem and how to do it under linux in the browser?

I have a Belkin wireless router model F5D7234-4 version 5. I switched to DHCP long enough to access the router via Firefox browser and look at all the settings. I turned off all encryption and other security related functions in order to just get it going. The IP of the router is 192.168.2.1 which is the default for this router. It is set to channel 6. I can not ping the router from either of two machines using regular ethernet or wireless. I have very limited experience with routers and am in need of help so I can use this for wireless connection to my living room box to my laptop in the bedroom about 50 feet away.
I tried changing the gateway from the living room box IP number to the router IP number with no success. I don't have anything connected to the internet port on the router. The living room box and the laptop are connected to the ethernet ports on the router. Ethernet works fine. Wireless does not. I compiled and installed the drivers for my wireless card on the laptop, a Realtek 8176 which uses the kernel modules rtl8192ce, rtlwifi and mac80211. ifup wlan0 brings up the wlan interface with these modules loaded. Right now I just want to be able to ping the router using regular ethernet. That would tickle me pink at this point. I downloaded the manual but I just can't seem to make headway.

Ubuntu 9.04.
Belkin Wireless G router.
Has been working fine. Today it is not. I have done nothing to it. It just keeps saying "Looking up *********" and "Cannot connect to server".
I hard wired the pc to the modem and it works fine. Hard wired the pc to the router it works fine. Running wireless, both of my computers are not connecting.
If I remember, one of the lights on the router should be lit solid, just as it is on the modem. However, all lights are blinking. The only solid light is "power".

How can I get my wireless Belkin F5D8233-4 router working. I put the install disk in and it shows on the desktop but unable to execute - keep getting an error message. Getting frustrated...

I recently purchased a TPlink 5 port switch, which for some reason didnt work with windows, only my ubuntu computer, I found a cheap wireless belkin router which also has 4 wired ports. It now works well except that it is slow searching for new servers eg, going to facebook creates a long wait and can even time out but once on the website everything works fast, The connection is 2.89 Mbps which is good for this area and ping is 45ms. What could I do to fix this problem. This affect my ubuntu computer and the windows xp pc as well

I inherited this USB wireless N. I am running ubuntu and OS is not running the USB wireless. I ran lsusb and it does list but doesn't run it. I have been searching the internet for the driver and firmware to no avail. Just putting this out there to see if anyone has some insight or can point me in the right direction to find the driver and firmware for the Belkin F5D8053 v6.
The general consesus of people is that it is not the same chipset as the previous versions. Where they have downloaded drivers of other USB wireless with the same chipset and worked for them.

I'm looking at buying one of the above cards, and was wondering if anyone knew if they worked in master mode (e.g. as an access point). According to the Aircrack-ng site, they support packet injection and monitor mode. Is master mode support solely up to the driver used with the card, or does the card have to physically support it?

I have Jessie, gcc -v shows gcc version 4.9.2 (Debian 4.9.2-10). I downloaded the proper driver for my Dlink DWA-171 wireless-n adapter from here: [URL] ....
However, when I try to build the module this is what I get:
make ARCH=i386 CROSS_COMPILE= -C /lib/modules/3.16.0-4-686-pae/build M=/home/chris/Documents/USB WiFi Driver/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux modules
make[1]: Entering directory '/usr/src/linux-headers-3.16.0-4-686-pae'
Makefile:10: *** mixed implicit and normal rules: deprecated syntax
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-3.16.0-4-686-pae'
[Code] ....
I soft linked gcc to gcc ver 4.8 and then I get the same error except it says:
make ARCH=i386 CROSS_COMPILE= -C /lib/modules/3.16.0-4-686-pae/build M=/home/chris/Documents/USB WiFi Driver/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux modules
make[1]: Entering directory '/usr/src/linux-headers-3.16.0-4-686-pae'
Makefile:10: *** mixed implicit and normal rules: deprecated syntax
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-3.16.0-4-686-pae'
[Code] ....
I successfully built this module on Kubuntu 14.1 with kernel version 3.16 but for whatever reason it won't build on Debian.

I am currently having an issue installing the FGLRX driver in slackware 13.1. I use a customer kernel due to buggy acpi on my toshiba laptop. The steps i took to compile my kernel are as followed. hu

patch /usr/src/linux directory
copy kernel config from /boot directory
make menguconfig and load config
the make all
make modules install
i have also tried make install as well
then i mopy system.map the kernel file and config file into /boot directory
edit lilo
reboot ... everything works fine acpi works properly like before.. now the problem comes.. I try to install the fglrx drivers and i get the error message
Code:
Error:
kernel includes at /lib/modules/2.6.33.4-smp/build/include do not match current kernel.
they are versioned as ""
instead of "2.6.33.4-smp".
you might need to adjust your symlinks:
- /usr/include
- /usr/src/linux

10.10) now, and only use windows as my DVR (what im currently trying to change). To that end, i have a Hauppauge 2250 video capture card, and Steven at KernalLabs has an alpha release that has been said to work very well with mythTV.
Anyways, i followed one of the posts and successfully compiled the driver using "sudo make menuconfig." I attempted to install with the "make install" command, and the first half of the driver seemed to install and the second half (firmware related) received errors.
