CentOS 5 :: 5.3 Installing Xen Breaks Network Access?

Jul 8, 2009

i got an Compaq proliant ML530 server that i installed CentOS 5.3 on i tested the connectivity to the LAN and to the WAN and everything worked. Then i ran:

"yum install xen xen-kernel"

and after that i can't connect to the network if i ping my other servers there's no replay. i assume this have to do with Xen bridge. But since the tutorials dont mention any configuration needed, i assumed that it would work out of the box.

General :: No Network Access After Installing Suse 11.2?

I'm new to SUSE. I had some virus issues with Windows Vista and decided to change my OS.

I have the modem set up and still can't get the internet to come up. I get the mozilla blank webpage, but I am connected to the internet server. What can I do to get full internet access if everything seems to be working they way it should except for the blank webpage? I know I must be missing something but what?

Also, how do I open Yast to use it? I think I opened it by accident and got some things done

what does the error message mean and do I need internet access to install the apps?

Fedora Installation :: Installing F15 DVD - Repositories Require Network Access

Jul 17, 2011

I've tried to install FEdora 15 using the Fedora 15 DVD for i686 architecture. However, after the step where I chose the setup for GRUB boot options, I got this error: "Some of your repositories require network access but networking could not be setup" (or something similar). Then I only had the option to exit the installer, but after reboot there was no GRUB and I have no means even to boot back to Windows.

How to install Fedora without networking or is Fedora the only distro so messed up that this can't be done? I've tried the Live CD/USB version but that version has no C compiler to allow me to install networking drivers after install completes. Now I was told to try the full DVD, by the full DVD managed to mess up my computer completely.

Debian Hardware :: Installing Newer Kernel For AR9485 Driver Breaks Display

Apr 8, 2014

I'm trying to install Atheros AR9485 wireless card driver on debian, and I had no luck.

I followed this [URL] .... to install backports kernel version. The wireless card worked, however, intel display driver displayed the color in the wrong way.

Red pixels are green, and green are yellow. It was displayed like when someone try to connect a PAL system to a TV that supports only NTSC.

This is my lspci output:

Code: Select all00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT DRAM Controller (rev 09)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Device 0a0c (rev 09)
00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Lynx Point-LP USB xHCI HC (rev 04)
00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation Lynx Point-LP HECI #0 (rev 04)

[Code] ....

Is there is a way to compile only AR9485 module from the kernel?

Add the following

Code: Select alli915.i915_enable_fbc=0 to your GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= in /etc/default/grub so you would have something like that

Code: Select allGRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=" i915.i915_enable_fbc=0 nomodeset quiet splash"

CentOS 5 :: Moving From Centos 5.2 To 5.3 Breaks USB HUB Use?

Jul 4, 2009

I help develop an Asterisk channel driver that uses USB audio devices to link amateur radio stations via the Internet. All worked well under Centos 5.2 but I recently upgraded to Centos 5.3. I now get either "cannot submit datapipe for urb 0, error -28: not enough bandwidth" followed by a kernel panic or choppy audio depending on the use of either single or multi-TT hubs. For at least 4 devices, things do work under Centos 5.3 if I have a PC with 4 USB ports and do not use a hub. Of course I need to use a hub in most cases errors but even with a single device connected, data seems to be lost resulting in choppy audio. We need the hubs to work for larger systems and PC's with only 2 USB ports.Hardware:

USB 2.0 Audio Device Class 1.0, C-Media CM108
USB 2.0 HUB, 7 port with one TT, NEC UPD720113 or
HUB 2.0 HUB, 7 port with multiple TT's, Genesys Logic GL852.

OpenSUSE Network :: 10.3 To 11.1 Upgrade Breaks GID Resolution In Samba?

Feb 8, 2010

I've just upgraded my main file server from 10.3 to 11.1 by DVD (I did *not* have a chance to do a zypper up after, so it's the base 11.1 install), and in upgrading my Samba from 3.0.23b to 3.2.4, I seem to have broken winbind resolution of group names. wbinfo -g shows all the right group name entries, and getent group shows that they map to the proper GID numbers... it's just that ls isn't seeing them: I get domain usernames, but the group column is 5 digit numeric GIDs in my defined range. I infer that something broke PAM, but I'm not enough of a PAM jockey to know what. I don't have a pam.d/winbind, but I'm not clear that I'm supposed to. I see that the four pam.d/common-* files were touched, but their contents are the same as the older ones I have.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wired Network Breaks When Idle

It works fine every time I boot up, but eventually it dies, and I can't ping the machine, or ping anything from the machine. ifconfig shows that it still has an IP address. Running ifdown/ifup causes it to work again. I intend for this machine to be a server, so I can't afford to go restart it when I need network access. sudo lshw -class network gives me this:

CentOS 5 :: Seamonkey 2.1 / 2.2 Breaks Java Plugin Support?

Jul 11, 2011

I'm a long-time user of Seamonkey, from since it was called Mozilla. The recent 2.1 and 2.2 updates seem to have broken Java support on my Centos 5.5 box (32 bits) and I really can't figure this out. Seamonkey is installed in /usr/local. Starting from 2.1, the /usr/local/seamonkey/plugins directory is gone. As per the release notes, plugins are now managed on a per-user basis in $HOME/.mozilla/plugins So far, so good.

I used to have a link in /usr/local/seamonkey/plugins pointing to /usr/local/jre1.6.0_12/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so (I install Sun's JREs in /usr/local too... it shows my BSD background I guess). So I moved that link to $HOME/.mozilla/plugins but now about :plugins doesn't show any Java plugin detected. Worse, $HOME/.mozilla/seamonkey/<profile name>.default/pluginreg.dat shows that the plugin is rejected.

It contains:
[INVALID]
/usr/local/jre1.6.0_12/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so:$
1232187965000:$

I vaguely suspect that there might be a shared library issue with the newest Seamonkey binaries and Centos 5.5, but then every other plugin works OK, including Flash and all. So what's the issue with the Java plugin? There's no error when I start seamonkey from a terminal window. I must not be the only Seamonkey user on Centos 5.5.

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.3 Amd64 - Having Internet Access But Cannot Access Repos - IPV6?

This was followed by a message box containing

- UI syntax error

Firefox could not access the internet (cannot find server) until I disabled IPV6 (I used about:config), now it works fine. I think the repos problem is because of IPV6 - I usually have trouble with IPV6. I tried disabling IPV6 with the following (How To Disable ipv6 on SuSE Linux | Linux Poison)

Ubuntu :: Write Access On Raid5 Mount And Network Access

Apr 22, 2010

I'm running ubuntu 9.10, and created a softraid5 with no problems. Now i need it to automount with user read/write access, and i need to make some network share folders. My fstab has the following line for the raid:

Code:
/dev/md0 /media/raid auto rw,user,auto,exec 0 0
After i mounted it, i changed the permission with:

Code:
sudo chmod 777 /media/raid/
So now i can create folders and files on it.
Then i created some shares, one with guest access and other with no guest access.

Now the questions:

1) If i access the guest shared folder via WinXP, i create files and folders, but they appear locked on ubuntu, so i cant access them until i change the permissions. If i go to proprieties/Permissions, the owner is "nobody".

2) What password do i need to use on WinXP, and i try to access the non-guest shared folded? Do i need to create a user just for that?

OpenSUSE Network :: Two Network Cards With Different Settings For Internet Access

Feb 9, 2010

I have a desktop computer running OpenSUSE 11.2 with two network cards installed. I would like to use both cards for connecting to the internet using different networks. The setting would be the following: eth0 is the main (default) card, almost all programs should use this NIC for connecting to the internet. eth1 is used only by a few programs, which have setting for selecting which network interface to use. The two NIC's are connected to different networks, so the IP address of the NIC's, the related subnet masks and gateways are also different.

Saying short, I would like to have the two NIC's as they would be in two separate computers. I can set the IP address and subnet mask of the NIC's. The main problem is that I can only declare one gateway. How can i setup this? I do not use network manager, I configure network cards using yast, but if needed I can of course use ifconfig directly.

OpenSUSE Network :: Network / DNS - Can't Access Any Internet Resources Or Router

Jul 30, 2010

I'm having a strange problem with my network connection/DNS. I turn computer the on and it recognizes and connects to wireless or wired but I can't access any Internet resources or my router. If I ping the default gateway, I get no response and I get DNS errors from any network services that run at start up. If I stop and start the network daemon then it all works fine until the next time I turn on my laptop. It does this for both wireless and wired connection.

I've tried to edit the network interface information in YaST but it says that configuration is handled by knetworkmanager and I have no idea where that information is accessed. I should point out that it all worked fine until I tried to connect to open WAP at my school and couldn't so I connected to the wired network. Next morning I had this problem when connecting to my home network. My questions are 1. What could be the cause of this error and 2. where does one configure the network interfaces when using knetworkmanager

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Installing CentOS 5.4 X86_64 On Adaptec RAID 3405

Jan 13, 2010

My problem is that I'm trying to install CentOS 5.4 x86_64 DVD ISO on Supermicro X7SBI server with installed Adaptec RAID 3405 controller.

I created RAID 5 array and is working fine (adaptec status says Optimal) but I can't install CentOS to that array (1.5TB size).

Whenever I try to install with: linux dd

I'm asked for a driver, which I have downloaded from Adaptec site and extracted contents to USB drive (in installation found as /sba1) which has now a lot of IMG and some ISO files on it.

I try to load (I simplified names) RHEL5.img, CENTOS.img... with x64 names (one exact name: aacraid driverdisk-CentOS-x86_64.img) and I always get the error message: "No devices of the appropriate type were found on this driver disk"

This is going on for a week now and I can't find the right driver or something I'm doing wrong to get install done.
