Networking :: Directly Forward Everything Coming Into An IP Address Or Should Try VPN
Apr 26, 2010
My task is, to set up a(nother) server for our server room. Access is difficult, closed doors, remote location, etc. Therefore my idea was, to install, configure, etc. everything in my office. Since the server will have to work in the DMZ, I can't do much in my office; I have no DMZ-address here. Therefore I was thinking of 'forwarding' the future IP-address in the DMZ, let's say 10.10.10.1/24, from a stub machine placed in the server room into my office. I wonder how to do this most favourable.
So I think port-forwarding around 10 ports with ten ssh sessions would be neither clever, nor elegant. I wonder if it is possible to directly forward everything coming into an IP address directly instead? Or should I try VPN?

My ISP can give me up to 5 ip addresses. Is it possible to "forward" one of them to a machine to get rid of nat? I was thinking of "forwarding" one public ip to my machine and let the rest of the network share one ip using nat.

I have three machines on three networks192.x.x.x10.x.x.x172.x.x.xThe routers are set to forward communication between 192. network and 10. network, and between the 10. network and the 172. network. However, there's not routing between 192. and 172.I want to fix that by using a machine on the 10. network to forward communication between the other two networks. The machine has one etherent connection eth0 whose address is 10.1.1.11I set up an aliased ip address eth0:0 to be 10.1.1.12 using Quote:ifconfig eth0:0 10.1.1.12Then I tried to set forwarding rules the 10. machine such that 10.1.1.12 address will provide access to the machine 172.1.1.55 as followsQuote:# iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d 10.1.1.12 -j DNAT --to-destination 172.1.1.55The default policies for all chains is ACCEPT.I then try to access 10.1.1.12 from 192.1.1.20 expecting it to actually access 172.1.1.55 ; it does not work

I'm using a Debian servers, as router/firwall.. I've two ethernet interfaces into the server, one for wan and one for lan. The i use SNAT so my LAN clients can access the internet throgh the debian router. That is working... Now i want to be able to access servers on the LAN site from the WAN site, and i wanna use port address translation (PAT). I have a FTP server running on a lan server, so i'm trying to portward port 21.
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -i eth1 -d (WANIP) --dport 21 -j DNAT --to 192.168.1.2:21
When people try to access my FTP from the WAN site, they are redirected to the local FTP server, and they are promted for crendentials, but when the credentials are typed, and the local ftp server should answer the wan request, the connections dies.
The wan clients are being promted for credentials, so they are redirected to the local lan server, but after that the connections dies, so i think there is some kind of nat problem, when the local lan server is trying to respond to the wan request..
Here i my iptables script:
#flush table
iptables -F
#input regler
[code]....

I have a local proxy server running on my computer, but I want to add a twist to it. I have multiple connections going through the proxy, but what I'd like to is that all outgoing connections Mac Address' will be different from the one the connecting systems. Mask or even alter them, if possible.
Yes, I know the idea itself sounds weird, but I'm attempting a few ideas for a project I'm working and I ran in to this problem. Please note that it's impossible for me to change the MAC Address' on the systems connecting through the proxy (they're gaming consoles, to be specific.)
I'm currently running the latest version of Ubuntu.

I wish to intercept/forward emails that is sent to one user on multi user mail server.I only want email from one specific address or group,to be redirected and it will be redirected to another user on same server. The email should not arrive in original users inbox.".forward" file can not give me such solution, because ".forward" file will forward all mails to another specific mail id,which i don't want. I want only specific users mails onto another local user.Is this possible in sendmail?Anybody have clear idea of "virtusetable" & "aliases" file?

Currently my OS is Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope Desktop OS and my web server is Apache2. I have a public address 60.x.y.z and my pc local address is 10.x.y.z. I have a web app in my Apache2 which currently run in localhost(10.x.y.z).
I would like to enable the web app so that it could be browse from outside. I know there maybe some port forwarding process and some commands involved in order to do that. But I have no idea on the steps to do that.

Version 10.04 LTS. Installed desktop version and network worked but I needed a static IP address and the install configures for a DHCP configured address. I tried changing to static address using the System->Preferences->Network Connections application but was unable to get the system to come up with the network up.
So I manually modified the /etc/network/interfaces and the /etc/resolv.conf files. I restart the system but when I do an ifconfig, I don't see a configured IP address on eth0 (only the loopback address). If I run /sbin/ifup eth0 everything then works fine and ifconfig shows the correct address bound to eth0.
My files are as follows:

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and I'm having problems trying to assign it a static IP address. No matter what I put in the Preferences->Networking area (identifying the interface as Manual)... it still will query DHCP for an address if I run the dhclient command. I'm using to using ubuntu server where I just set the IP in the interfaces config file.

I am running my own Postfix mail server. Some time ago I noticed that most email was rejected because of the server's dynamic IP address. So I got a fixed IP address. However then I noticed that some mails got rejected due to failing the reverse DNS check. So my ISP told me to get a range of IP addresses and they could then create a PTR record for one of those addresses. That is now running but it turns out that the IP address used for the PTR record is a ... dynamic IP address. So Spamhaus PBL rejects my emails again.

I built a HTPC using Zotac ION ITX A 330 (has an onboard Atheros AR9285 according to lspci) and the plan was to connect this to my Netgear WNR2000 using WiFi. The OS is Ubuntu 10.04. I can connect to the router fine. Signal strength stable between 65-72% so this shouldn't be an issue (other hardware including two laptops running Vista (DELL XPS) and OSX (MBP) connect just fine at the same location). I stay connected for everything between five to 60 minutes then i lose the connection. According to the syslog i get deauthenticated due to reason 2. I've tried the backport modules.I've also tried wicd instead of the standard gnome Network manager. No difference.

I have a few external IP's assigned to me by my ISP. I have IPcop as my router/firewall. I am wondering how to bind 1 of my external ip's to my internal ip address. So I do not have to port forward, etc. For Example, 77.77.77.77 to 192.168.1.123 and on the server it see's the external IP address.

Just rebuilt my file/print server using an ECS 945GCD-M Atom motherboard. Running it under 9.10 (2.6.31-20) using the same cable and port on my Netgear switch that my old server connected to at 1GB/s without issue (old server's NIC was Intel-based).
Found the driver is an AR813x, & downloaded & installed the latest driver from here (1.0.1.9). sudo lshw -C network now shows that it's using the new driver, but still sitting at 100MB/s:
Code:
*-network
description: Ethernet interface
product: Attansic Technology Corp.
[Code].....
I can't seem to get it to come up at the full 1GB/s. I also tried ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000 without success. why networking restart ignores eth0?

I have this in my /etc/networking/interfaces file:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet dhcp
pre-up iptables-restore < /etc/iptables.rules
post-down iptables-restore < /etc/iptables.rules
but eth0 doesn't automatically come up. I have to do a "ifconfig eth0 up" and then do a dhclient eth0 in order to get an IP after each reboot.

I installed Fedora 12 on an Eee PC 1001HA. This laptop has a Ralink RT3070 wireless chipset, for which the driver is not yet in the kernel (still in staging I believe). However I downloaded the driver, compiled it, and installed it. AFAICT, it works fine.
One small obstacle remains: I am uable to get the network interface to come up automatically; I have to run # ifconfig ra0 up. Because of this NetworkManager never sees the wireless interface, making connecting to WAPs a chore.
I created a ifconf-ra0 file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts, and it includes the line ONBOOT=yes, but this doesn't do the trick.

I'm trying to implement a routing short-cut solution, whose requirement is as following: server1(Linux) sends ip packets(destined to server3) to server2(Linux) via an ip tunnel between them, server2 forwards the ip tunnel's output (the inner ip packets) to server3. Each server has only one NIC and a public ip associated with it. All servers can communicate with each other. I'm sure the ip tunnel between server1 and server2 was configured correctly and worked well. server2's ip_forward was enabled too. On server2, I can capture the traffic on the ip tunnel interface, and they are originated from server1 and destined to server3. The problem is server2 does not forward the ip tunnel's output at all. On server2, I just run "echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward". Is there anything I missed for enabling ip_forward? Or originally, ip forward can't work on servers with only one NIC, can it?

So here is my issue in a nutshell. I need to take FTP requests that hit Server_A and forward them to Server_B. Server_B is not natted...Server_B is another public server in a completely different location in the world. One thing to note is that I only have one NIC hence why you will see both in and out being eth0. This is what I have in my iptables on SERVER_A:iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp -i eth0 --sport 21 -o eth0 -d SERVER_B --dport 21 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPTiptables -A FORWARD -p tcp -i eth0 --sport 20 -o eth0 -d SERVER_B --dport 20 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPTI've also tried both of the above without the --sport option. When I FTP to SERVER_A (where the above iptables rule are) it connects to SERVER_A instead of forwarding them to SERVER_B.

I've had my PC connected to my router since I installed Ubuntu. My router has the address and name password for my ISP. I'd like to plug my PC directly into my ISP line, but the network manager won't find the connection, and I don't know how to tell my PC my ISP's address and the name and password to logon with. I set up my router, and I know how to make the connection in XP, but I don't know how to in Linux. I have very limited Terminal experience.
