View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just installed 11.3 on my mother's laptop. I downloaded and installed Swiftfox, but there's no evidence of it in the menu. I can double-click the Swiftfox.desktop icon in /usr/share/applications, and Swiftfox runs properly. However, it's not listed in the KDE menu.Is there a way to manually update the menu?I didn't have this problem with the previous version of openSuse on this computer. But I did a fresh install, rather than update to 11.3.

The only problem is that the TV is not showing the outer edges of my desktop. So, I can't see the "Applications" menu, for example, or the button to click to Logout. I've messed with every setting available on the TV and nothing has helped. Can anyone provide any advice? I've started messing around with xrandHere is the output of 'xrandr':

A little while ago I installed lubuntu 10.04 on a partition on my (somewhat) old sony vaio desktop. It's great, I do love it - only problem is that the DVD drive is not recognised - at least it doesn't show up in the file manager, and isn't listed when I do "ls -l /media".

I'm encountering an unusual problem with GRUB 2. Whenever I start up my system, my BIOS'es load and do their thing, and then hand the show over to GRUB, which is supposed to not appear or do anything because my GRUB countdown is set to 0, but instead I get two errors like this that appear for about 5 or 10 seconds (greatly delaying startup) and then Xubuntu, the first entry on my Grub menu, loads: (I set GRUB to automatically boot my first entry):
Code:
error: no suitable mode found

I deleted all APs in my Wireless Section of network manager. After that, the whole network manager icon disappeared. I added the icon back on the panel, but I don't think its the right one. It doesn't do the two green cicles thing when I connect my ethernet wire in. It also doesn't show any wireless AP when I left click on the icon. It doesn't even have an X mark on the bottom left of the icon when no network is detected
View 1 Replies View Relatedim just getting the hang of ubuntu 9.10, and then all of a sudden 10.04 comes over and screws everything up with the upgrade. i did the upgrade, and now the network manager wont show up in notification areas. any clue as to why? help is greatly appreciated. also, my machine does register that the drivers for wireless card is installed, and when i run lshw -c net command with sudo priveleges, it says it can detect networks, so im confused as hell.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've had this problem for a while and have eagerly awaited a fix, but have not received one. But the problem is when I'm either charging or on battery and I would click on the power manager the menu that pops up shows me the percentage of life remaining but does not give me any indication of how long I have until my battery is dead/fully charged. If I were to open up the Power Statistics window there is no information time to full or time to empty. Both are just empty.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just started out learning to program and I'm making a "Radio Scheduler" for my brother as a mini project. I wanted to make an "install" script, which would add an item to Ubuntu's Main Menu. I believe all that is necessary is to create a .desktop file and place it it /usr/share/applications/? This seemed to work fine when I tried it out on 10.10, but I've now tried it on two 10.04 systems (one virtual) and despite it being in the applications folder (so it moved in okay), it isn't showing up at all in the menu. code...
I'm not entirely sure about some of that (categories for instance), as I just used another file as a reference. But it seemed to work fine on my 10.10 system, so I don't understand why it won't show up on the others? Should be in Sound & Video if I'm correct... I'm still pretty new to Linux, so sorry if I've got anything completely wrong.
I've got wine installed and I've been using it for a while, but I just installed adobe flash but it doesn't show up in my wine menu. I know where I can find it in My Programs I just don't know where that is. Where is the virtual C: drive in wine located?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have two wifi routers. If I stand next to the main one with my laptop I can connect and access the internet no problem. The other router is in my office, and the bridging is messed up, so while I see the essid and bssid using 'iwlist scanning' and nm-tool, I can't connect to it.
Now, my main router's signal still reaches to my office, just not as strong as the borked router in my office. I need to be able to choose which wifi network to connect to without wasting time walking between rooms. I added entries for both in network-manager, but it doesn't show them in the list when I left click the tray icon! How the do I connect to the network I want?
System>Prefrences right? It's not there? Everywhere I look It says it should be there,.. well it's not... How can I add it manually? or where is the folder? I would like to edit my themes.. I have a theme manager, but it doesn't load any themes I download..

I have some problem making shortcuts for 2 games to my Application/games menu. The menu you can edit by writing "alacarte" in the terminal. So this is how I do, I have 1 game, its a Linux client of the game Tibia, ive unpacked it and its in a folder inside my home folder. If I double click on either Tibia or StartTibia.sh the game starts without any trouble, but if I open alacarte and browse to that location and choose either Tibia or StartTibia.sh and then click on the new item in the Game menu nothing opens. Here is the location I browse to:
/home/som99/Spel/Tibia/StartTibia.sh
The next problem is with a windows game installed with wine, if I drag the existing shortcut file to the panelbar I get the icon there and can just click it and start it without any trouble, but I want it to be inside the applications/games menu. So I go to the alacarte editor and browse to the main directory of the file inside /home/som99/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/gamename/game.exe and press ok but when I try to start it it asks for its main files located at Z:homesom99 the funny thing is that it starts if I move all files inside the games main folder to home without putting them in any folder :/
So I tried to write the following as is written in the working shortcut in wine:
wine "C:Program FilesTibiagame.exe" and I get the same error as it somehow think that the locations is homesom99 :S
Also adding in properties of the new shortcut item the following:
"/home/som99/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/game" wine game.exe
I get this error while trying to start it:
Failed to execute child process "/home/som99/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/game" (Permission denied)
I have put permission on the folders but same result.
As I am going to make alot of shortcuts to many programs both trough wine and games I've unpacked I would like to know how to do this.
I might add that if I open the terminal and write:
cd /home/som99/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/game
to get to the folder then writes:
wine game.exe
Then the game starts without any trouble.
I don't want games on my computer (running 9.10). Removed them successfully, but update manager keeps presenting them as suggested updates in update manager. Requires me to go through and uncheck all the games each time I do an update. Is there some way I can stop update manager from re-presenting removed programs or block future game updates?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAnyway since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 when I right-click on something and there is another menu in that menu, it doesn't show up for the first time!
for example if I want to create a an "Empty File", I'll right-click on desktop and when I want to go to "Create Document" menu, it doesn't show up! so I must click somewhere else and try again so for the second time it works!!
In Windows Explorer, if a file is focused, press Menu Key on keyboard, context menu will show on top of the file. But in Nautilus, the same action shows context menu where the mouse cursor is. That's a bit annoying. Is there anyway to make it work like Windows?

The games still do not show only the ones selected.See attached Games1.pngI have tried to submit a BUG Report but obviously I don't understand how that system works, as it just closes the window.
View 6 Replies View RelatedNetbeans menu doesn't go on global menu. It stays in application. Well, OK, I can live with thatAfter dragging anyting inside Netbeans (windows, menus, ETC), Unity Launcher stops dodging windows and autohiding. It just sits on the screen. It starts to behave normally only after I restart Netbeans. Now- that's pretty annoying.EDIT: Even worse: If I exit Netbeans during debugging session, I must exit Firefox as well before launcher starts behaving normally again. Now, that's entirely unacceptable. Good enough reason to remain on "Ubuntu Classic" (what's left of Gnome that is), and eventually switch do different distro or even... ungh... WAMP.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi wiped my entire hard drive that had xp as its only OS. I freshly installed a Windows 7 ultimate and everything went perfectly. I then decided to install 10.4. I split the partitions correctly (i had experience doing this already with my laptop, which has xp/10.4). Ubuntu 10.4 install went flawlessly, except for one thing. Now when i boot up the pc, it goes straight into 10.4. I have tried holding shift during the start up to force the boot menu, and it just shows the Ubuntu 10.4 OS as choices. Any clue what i could do to make Win7 appear in the boot menu?
