Ubuntu Installation :: Files From Hdd Missing \ Files That Were Located On C(vista) Cant Access Any Of The E Ones?

Mar 7, 2011

I changed to wubi last night, i decided to go that way cause i was informed it was a safe way to try giving it a try for linux and ubuntu without any special effort needed to be payed and easily deleted if i am not pleased.Thankfully i am pretty satisfied with the results, i pretty much dealt with most of the issues i have faced so far successfully and i am running it ok beside one important thing.See i am using my laptop, which has a hdd of 250GB.On my Vista there are 2 different hdd C+E by default, they separated my hdd.So while i have windows on C and E is pretty much used for my additional data(see movies, music etc) when i installed wubi i installed it on E, thought it would be better and it had more space.

Now though, while i can access threw ubuntu all my files that were located on C(vista) i cant access any of the E ones, and search file dont helps either. The "vista hdd" as ubuntu describes it, its a 250 gb disk on computer, which means it should contain both of the vista disks. But sadly thats not the case.i cant seem to be able to find them anywhere.

Debian Configuration :: Laptop Files Located In /var - Can Change This

Jun 7, 2011

On my Laptop, I installed Debian under the file "/" and the partition on which I have all my files under "/var". While this isn't really a big issue, when I originally installed Debian, I had the intention of having all of my files on a partition that I would auto-mount later so that when I upgrade my system by reinstalling it, I would only have to change the system partition and let everything else stay the same.. I can live without changing my /var if I can only do so by a re-install...

OpenSUSE :: Delete Files On Data Partition Slow Because Trash Is Located On Home Partition?

Aug 18, 2011

KDE 4.6 - opensuse 11.4.

I have a separate ext4 partition which contains all my data (music, movies, etc). When I delete files from this partition it is very slow because it copies files from my data partition to the Trash folder in my home partition. How can I avoid this? Can't the trash be configured so that it uses a trash folder in each partition instead of copying files to another partition (which is slow).

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Not Play Flash Files?

Mar 7, 2011

I just recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my computer it's a Pentium 4, 2,26 GHz, 1 GB RAM, and 2 40 GB HDD... I ran update manager and installed all the updates. I installed all the Ubuntu restricted extras and I can play all the formats but .flv; there's sound but the all I can see are lines and static.I ran the tests and see if my video card was properly working and all seemed OK. Also every time I play a ..... video or from another site that uses flash the computer totally crashes. I installed Chromium and see if the problem had to do with Firefox but chromium also totally crashes. after rebooting I tried playing another Internet video, but all I could get was a blank screen with sound.

Another issue I had was that right after the installation I could not set the screen resolution higher than 800x600, I don't know if the problem with the flash and the screen resolution are related =X

I also have had some issues with file permissions on the hard drive. I was planning on reinstalling after a backup but now I don't know if that would be logical because the files might all be locked. I wanted to reinstall because I have issues with USB and these file issues.

Ubuntu :: Compact Flash Limited To 1024 Files In Nautilus?

Sep 26, 2010

I just got an 8 gig compact flash card for my SLR camera. When I open the card (using a card reader) in Nautilus (Ubuntu 10.04) it will only list about 1024 files and not the rest. It does not provide any warnings so one could easily think all files have been copied when in fact they haven't. This could be a real issue if the user does not notice. Using another app called rapid photo downloader in Ubuntu does not seem to list/preview all the files either. I dual boot to win xp 32 bit and I can see all the photos and can copy them to the harddrive without any issues so I don't think it is hardware related. How to get Nautilus to allow the copy of all files?

Have got a film broken up into 10 minute chunks a la ...... Tried cat file1.flv file2.flv > file1&2.flv but mplayer stopped, saying 'end of file', half way through playing file1&2.flv.

Is there some way to join them together into one, so the film may be played all the way through.

Just occurred to me you could use an * for the counting numeral in the filename e.g. mplayer file*.flv for file1.flv, file2.flv, etc..
