When I double click on the script nothing happens. If t try to run it through terminal, it runs ok. In the Previous Ubuntu version (10.04) when I double-clicked a script it popped up some choices. Run in terminal, display, etc. That does not happen now.

I downloaded and burned the Ubuntu 10.10 ISO today, and booted it on a PC I wanted to install Ubuntu on. The CD booted successfully, and the desktop came up, but when I double-clicked "Install Ubuntu 10.10", nothing happened. I clicked it a few more times, but still nothing. I then tried rebooting, and clicking the Install icon again. Still, nothing. Any ideas as to what is causing this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop's been locking up in Linux (Ubuntu, Backtrack, Puppy) periodically for a while now. When it locked up, it was always immune to the magic of SysRq, which I thought might indicate a hardware problem. It became so bad that I had to stop using the laptop.
Today, when I turned it on and tried to boot into Fedora 12, I got the following error (just once, it just locked up at various points during the splash screen after this once):

All the seemingly missing letters were really missing, not my typos.
As you can see, kernel version is 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 and my laptop is a Sony Vaio TZ 250N (Core 2 Duo ULV 1.2GHZ). Note that with the other remaining kernels from the updates, nothing ever happened other than the locking up. The core temperatures hover pretty high, about 55-60C peak but this is still below the critical temp. Memtest came up clean when the problem first started happening.

ubuntu 10.10 dual booting with xp. everything works fine but my bootup choices of ubuntu 10.10 or ubuntu recovery mode have now trebled i.e are repeated three times on boot list, with windows still as one choice at the bottom of the list. is this normal? is something wrong and do i need to do anything?

"Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer" and
"Live-Install"
I click on Live-install, and I get a boot loader box that has live-install in it and a OK click box i click ok and nothing happens.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. I would like to specify that the computer get's put to sleep, after being inactive for 4 hours. The choices on the drop down are 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours and never.Is there an easy way to modify or add additional choices to the list? This would allow me to easily switch between them, if necessary.If not, what would I need to modify behind the scenes, to set this value to 4 hours?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed Nautilus Actions Configuration Tool (NACT), because I was interested in adding some more entries in my right click context menu. I've downloaded and installed successfully several nautilus actions. However, I'd like to add a script in the right-clicked menu. I know that the easiest way is to put the script in the " ~/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts" directory, but I'd like to add it through NACT, because NACT can set script to appear only for certain type of file (for example only for folders). Also, through NACT I can add icon for the action, so that I can distinguish the action quickly.
The script is called "open file location" (download link: [URL]... The main problem is that I don't know which parameters to add, so that the command functions correctly. Can anybody make it function? I use Ubuntu 10.04 and NACT 2.30.2
I have a machine with 2 hard drives, one with Vista installed and the other empty, ready to host an Ubuntu installation. I want my system to dual boot. When I boot via the Ubuntu 10.10 CD I am presented with two choices : install Linux to SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) using the entire disk, or to SCSI2 (0,0,0) (sdb) with 50% of the disk designated as Files and the other 50% designated as Ubuntu. Which one do I choose?

I can not get Guidance to remember my choices past the first suspend. I open Guidance from the battery icon on my screen and select "Suspend" from the "lid closed" option list. I click OK (or apply then OK) and my choice is remember right until I close the lid and restart. If I don't go through the process again random events occur when I resume the second time. I am a member of the power group, this was working perfectly on 4.4.2 and previous. Is there a text file I can edit to fix this properly instead of all the clicky-clicky I'm not listening nonsense?

I'm able to open up kmymoney and create a new file, click on the new accounts, enter data, etc. When I try to open an existing file, it opens fine, however as soon as I click on any of the accounts it freezes. I ran the consistency checker and it resolved 10 errors, but still will not open.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSince I installed Maverick, I've had trouble with Chrome and Firefox tabs. When I click a link, sometimes (50-60% of the time) the link opens in a new tab. When I click on tabs, again 50-60% of the time, they close. It's been happening since I installed Maverick, and there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to when I get a new tab or a tab closes. I have a Compaq Presario V6000 running 64bit Maverick with an Nvidia card.

The CDRom drive now does not attempt to read or mount anything inserted into it. It shows up in Nautilus under 'Computer', but does not appear to be mounted properly otherwise.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNew to Debian I installed ABCDE for ripping my CDs. My question is stupid but I could not sort this situation even going through the web or documentation. It works fine now BUT... when ABCDE retrieve multiple playlists (#1, #2, #3, etc.) it show them then ends with (END) blinking at the bottom of the terminal. If I make a RETURN I get nothing. If I type EXIT it shows "No next tag (press RETURN)" but RETURN has no effect !
When there is only ONE playlist (or no playlist available to retrieve) it works really fine.ce.
I was wondering if it were possible to have a dual boot system (XP and Debian) where when you press, say F7, you will boot into windows or if your press F6 you will boot into Linux. I have a monitor that doesn't support the initial start-up graphics

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been running Ubuntu desktop on my Acer Aspire One AOA150-1635 for over a year now in one form or another. I originally dual booted XP and Ubuntu Netbook Remix but decided against the remix when I did a clean install (over a year ago). All the issues I had then were the same issues others were having and have been fixed for a long time. I just recently upgraded to 10.10. I am unsure if this problem was present prior to the upgrade and I just hadn't run across it yet. I am also getting ready to upgrade my desktop and am afraid I will have the same issues.
It seems that certain windows don't fit on this desktop. For instance when I open Compiz config settings manager the bottom of the window is below the screen. When I try to click an option the window jumps and the same thing happens to the top. I can also click anywhere on the window to make this happen. I have included a couple pictures (taken with my camera please forgive the quality) to show you exactly what it is doing. It is getting rather annoying when I try to open one thing and the other right above or below it opens instead. I have to place my pointer in the spot where the item I am selecting will be after it jumps in order to open what I mean to open. When I right click it gives me options as if I was right clicking on the desktop background. The other issue which seems to be related is not being able to get to certain parts of longer windows such as Gnome color chooser. It seems to run off screen as well.
I recently downloaded Firefox 5.0 Aurora (alpha). I just extracted the tarball in my home directory and the program itself seems to work okay. However, when I add the shortcut to the launcher it does nothing more than blink when clicked. The only way I've found to get the Firefox to open without running from terminal was to add a symbolic link to the desktop, which is fine I suppose. I was just curious if there is a way to edit the launcher icon itself to make it work, or a more sophisticated install procedure that I need to use.
