It seems your FFMPEG (libavcodec) installation lacks the following encoder: MPEG Audio layer 1/2/3.
If you don't know how to fix this, ask for support from your distribution.
This is not an error inside VLC media player. Do not contact the VideoLAN project about this issue. After some searching around, I found a guide on setting up ffmpeg at [url] which I have followed. I am still getting the error.
Do I need to add any other codecs to make this work?

I have managed to download the relevant M Player, but when I click on the streaming audio link it pulls up the player, then nothing happens. It says "stopped" and when I click on the play icon nothing happens.
When I cut and paste the relevant link into M Player directly it looks as it it will work, it seems to buffer for about a second, then nothing happens again.
I have installed "Ubuntu Restricted Extras" and the "Medibuntu" repo is enabled. If this remains a codec issue (which it feels like) how do I find what codec I'm missing?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need my Ubuntu box to play an http audio stream on boot. It must heedlessly attempt to reconnect to the audio stream no matter how many network errors I may or may not have.
Currently using VLC on boot with the commands: -loop -http-reconnect
VLC works fine for the first little while, but after a day or two, it doesn't try to reconnect enough to meet my needs.
i just installed 10.10 on my girls laptop (Acer Aspire 5735z) hoping it would fix the old problem i had with playing real dvd's. it didnt. it keeps saying "Could not read from Resource". when i try with VLC is say "Could not read from file". but if i put in a burned movie, it plays fine. i checked and it has libdvdcss2, libdvdnav4, and libdvdread4 installed. i get the same problems with my laptop (toshiba portege m400 tablet) which runs fedora 13.

I have sounds when the computer start and shutdown and other sounds like incoming mail and stuff just not in amarok or any other media player at all nor on ..... and I've been googling it for the last few days and have found others with simular problems but none running Kubuntu 10.04 so I figured I'd give the solutions they got a try but I just can't get them to work on my computer. Might be my lack of linux skill so please go eazy on me and yes I have checked that the audio is not muted. Which codec pack to be installed and how to do it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anyone noticed that VLC tends to slowly have audio go out of sync during long video files, like a movie. It's hard to notice at first, but eventually you start to notice the audio moves out of sync with the video.
A quick work around to this problem is that I can always quickly hit pause (the audio tends to play for as long as it is out of sync while the video is paused) then quickly hit play.
I know VLC comes with a feature that allows you to adjust the audio for syncing errors, but I find that a bit redundant as the audio will continuously move out of sync as the movie progresses, and thus would require constant maintenance.
I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there were any solutions for it. This problem seems apparent on my iPod touch 4th gen as well and can be fixed with the same work around, however; the syncing issue does NOT exist on my windows vista PC (note: my ubuntu is on a laptop, not my PC)
Sorry for the walls of text: tl;dr? VLC has audio syncing oddities on my laptop running ubuntu but not on my PC running the dreaded vista. Can I fix it without getting massive migraines as my knowledge of linux is very limited?
Edit: If anyone has a recommendation for a better player that supports various media types, I'd be willing to try it. Open source / freeware.
It has 2 GB of built-in flash memory and slot for MicroSD. I have OpenSuSE 11.3 with GNOME and Windows XP SP3 installed on my Samsung NC10 netbook. In Windows, when I connect player via USB, it recognize player as disk and I can drag files to listen music. I used to that when I insert USB storage device or mp3 player in my netbook running OpenSuSE,automatically mounts device to /media/xxx. But when I connect player to computer, nothing happens. There are no new entries in /dev/ after insertion.

i have opensuse 11.3 (64-bit) installed. kde version. my sound card is a creative labs sound blaster x-fi xtreme audio, pcie interface. i am able to listen to cd music without any problems but i am unable to get streaming audio when i visit any internet radio site, videos, yahoo!tv, etc. etc. for instance, when i visit videos, the video part is ok but i cannot hear anything through the speakers. something similar happens when for instance i go to [url] and select any of the music channels. a new window pops up but the music never even starts to stream.
i know for a fact that both sound card and speakers work fine because i've tested them with windows xp. so there must be some setting in opensuse that i've missed. the weird part is that i can listen to music cds without any problems...

I was trying to listen to some audio files on the NPR site (link will follow) and find that I can't open the files with anything I have installed. The Linux version of the Realplayer isn't in the repo (and I don't really want to install it after some of the things I've read about it) but I gotta have my NPR and there's no way I'll EVER go back to a M$ OS. How can I listen to these files without downloading them and then uploading them to a media conversion site? I'm usually very good with google but this one has me stumped.

I write "was" because I could simply mount it using SSHFS from work, but now they have decided to become very restrictive with ports and for the life of me I can't get it working. I've already set-up GNUMP3D on it, but that also uses a port work won't allow.
So, in essence, I'm looking for suggestions on a Web-based application I could use to stream my music from home. Flash does not work on PPC, so anything Adobe-related is out of the question. Also, Java seems "iffy" at best... It's also worth note all of my music is in OGG format, so the program would have to be able to play said format.
