lately while converting video to dvd with ffmpeg or devede, watching multiple videos online, or restarting dbus from command, my laptop freezes and cannot recover. i simple have to do a hard shutdown and restart the laptop. sometimes when it freezes, the and hdd led will steadily blink once per second.

My system slows much down so that i cannot use it at all when am watching any online videos or movies am using firefox 3.6.13 .
My spec is:
intel celeron 2.53 Ghz
512 Mb ram
ubuntu 10.04 on 40 GB seagate ide harddisk
Windows Xp on 80 GB western digital ide harddisk in dual boot.
And also my browser cannot open login page of yahoo site and some time it waits saying waiting for s7.addthis.com, or waiting for ad.yieldmanager.com like some thing when i am trying to open some sites
I was watching videos with audio literally minutes ago, and all of the sudden my laptop has absolutely no sound. I have no idea what could have caused it. I just ran a quick update and restarted, didn't fix it. I also went under Preferences > Sound > Hardware and did a speaker test, no sound. What could have possibly happened? Is this a common issue? Is my integrated audio burnt out or something? (No, I don't have mute on.)

I first noticed this in Fedora 14, and now I notice the same behaviour in Linux Mint.Does anyone know what might be causing this? I have installed the latest version of flash player and watching videos on ..... and other live streaming pages should work, but when i select a video it keeps loading with out playing the video or showing any progress in the loading bar. and i dont have any problems with my internet connection
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy system just freezes randomly. It happens about once a day, which is really often imho. It usually happens when I'm watching a video in fullscreen and it suddenly stops. I can't alt-tab or escape out of fullscreen, my mouse doesn't work and the keyboard is unresponsive. I'm forced to restart by pressing my computer's power button. This happens in both vlc and kmplayer and it also happened a few times when i was not watching a video. I was just on firefox, browsing the internet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Ubuntu but I installed Ubuntu 11.04 with no problems. I activated the recommended drivers for my laptop. My laptop is: Acer Aspire 7540G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 video card and AMD Athlon II X2 processor. So the problems comes very very often. I watch videos on fullscreen or I leave them playing in ...... While playin a video the laptop just freezes. Everything stops working. I think this problems comes up may be every 30-40 minutes of watching a movie. I'm not a fan of holding the shut down button for 10 seconds every 40 minutes so I'll be very grateful if someone helps. I've removed Syn to Vblank from the CompizConfig because otherwise Ubuntu runs really slow on my computer and the videos are playing very slow and with very bad quality. When i removed it everything began to run faster but now I've this problem with the freezing... Any ideas ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just finished a fresh install of Lucid netbook remix on my new Sony Vaio netbook. Everything seemed to go fine until a restart was required after installation was complete, when the monitor went black and the netbook just hung. The only way I could restart was to manually power off and on again. The installation seems to have completed fine and everything works after boot up. However, the netbook continues to freeze if I select restart from the power options. I know its not critical, but it is annoying. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

I found a thread from a few years ago but am looking to see if that's still up to date.I don't have an iPod so it would be just to listen to on my laptop and to put files on my Motorola Droid. Last but not least, I was wondering if there were any workarounds for watching Netflix videos or shows on sites like ABC/NBC/Fox etc. I'm really trying to stick with Ubuntu but this is one of the really annoying things along with the growing list of applications i can't run I'm trying to get used to Ubuntu as a way to get out of buying a copy of Windows so I'm not really interested in solutions that involve dual booting because if I'm going to have to buy a copy of 7, I'm just going to format the laptop.
I have a Dell Mini 10v running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 (with latest flash), and everything is fine with it, except for online videos. Whenever I try to watch one, CPU usage gets around 100% and the videos start lagging.

View 2 Replies View Relatedrunning kubuntu 9.10 karmic koala, and my sound settings -at first glance- seem to be in order... a strange thing is occurring, is my machine haunted? my sound works when:
a. the machine boots up
b. files are played in dragon player
c. the machine shuts down
my sound does not work when:
1. i try to play streaming flash videos online (e.g. videos videos show the image but no sound will play)
2. the same goes for vlc media player: images yes, sound no.
3. i use skype *edit: additional problem*
i made no changes, that i know of, to my machine before this started happening. one day everything was working fine and i turned off my machine to go to sleep. the next day, i turn on my machine, and surprise, the sound doesn't work in some instances.
Everything was working fine when my laptop got shut down after a battery failure. Now, on restarting, the computer hangs at the login screen. If I close the lid and reopen it, the keyboard seems to work and I can enter password and login, but the touchpad doesn't work at all and all the functions that were to be performed while holding the function key seems to happen automatically (For eg. when I press 0, another key gets typed). Perhaps the drivers are't getting loaded properly, I don't know. The same story is there no matter how many times I restart. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and the laptop is Dell Vostro 1525

I am using ubuntu 10.10 on Dell Inspiron 1525 dual boot with vista. My concern is streaming online videos through websites such as BBC iplayer, sky news, ....., NDTV news channel, etc. Videos are streaming perfectly fine as long as they are not running on full screen but if I try to run them on full screen video freezes (after a few minutes, say 5). Interestingly, sound does not stop. I can still hear the latest news updates but the video does not correspond. Same videos are running fine whether full screen or not in vista.

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday Ubuntu One stopped syncing properly: all files and folders were listed on the web site grayed out and tagged with "uploading", while there was "0 bytes Used". I could still upload files manually to the website fairly quickly, so it probably wasn't purely server overload. Anyway, a number of things happened after that:uninstalled the Ubuntu One client packages and reinstalled them in Account settings on the website, I removed my computer, hoping to make a fresh start the Ubuntu online account login system for some reason forced me to change my password (presumably it wasn't strong enough)
After all that, I can still login to the website (with the new password), but the computer can't login. When I type u1sdtool -s in terminal, the result is

When I open Ubuntu One Preferences from the Me menu, it completely freezes at the Account tab; I can't click anything or even close it (have to kill it in terminal).
I suppose the login failure has to do with the old password whcih was saved in the keyring. The removed computer from the account probably complicates the issue.
When I am playig videos with mplayer (I am using smplayer frontend), sometimes video freezes and i had to push space button twice before it starts to play again. I am using Fedora 11 x86_64. How it can be fixed?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with streaming divx videos in Firefox 3.6 on openSUSE 11.2. Every time I try to load a divx video Firefox ends up freezing, ultimately leading to dialog box giving me the option to terminate Firefox. No matter what plugin I try to use it's the same problem. I've tried mplayerplug-in, which shows a gray background with the Mplayer logo where the video should be but it keeps buffering, once I press play it freezes. I tried the vlc browser plugin which doesn't seem to even recognize anything and I tried gecko-mplayer, which didn't even show the logo and buffering. I tired removing Firefox and all the plugins and tried installing them again to no avail.

I have searched and all i can find is how to normalize the volume with in the video. I have tried this and it works great on movies where the action is louder that the talking. My problem is on video is a lot louder than another so im constantly changing the volume when a new video starts.
