every time I watch a DivX movie on the internet my system freezes permanently. So I have to restart. I can�t recognize any regularities: it happens in periods of 15, 20 or 30 minutes....
I use:
-F13 with latest updates
-Nvidia 8600M GT with nouvau driver
I'm new to Ubuntu but I installed Ubuntu 11.04 with no problems. I activated the recommended drivers for my laptop. My laptop is: Acer Aspire 7540G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 video card and AMD Athlon II X2 processor. So the problems comes very very often. I watch videos on fullscreen or I leave them playing in ...... While playin a video the laptop just freezes. Everything stops working. I think this problems comes up may be every 30-40 minutes of watching a movie. I'm not a fan of holding the shut down button for 10 seconds every 40 minutes so I'll be very grateful if someone helps. I've removed Syn to Vblank from the CompizConfig because otherwise Ubuntu runs really slow on my computer and the videos are playing very slow and with very bad quality. When i removed it everything began to run faster but now I've this problem with the freezing... Any ideas ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy system just freezes randomly. It happens about once a day, which is really often imho. It usually happens when I'm watching a video in fullscreen and it suddenly stops. I can't alt-tab or escape out of fullscreen, my mouse doesn't work and the keyboard is unresponsive. I'm forced to restart by pressing my computer's power button. This happens in both vlc and kmplayer and it also happened a few times when i was not watching a video. I was just on firefox, browsing the internet.

When I want to play an official DVD, Mplayer and VLC start and close down immediately..
When I want to play a movie from my HDD I get this (see attachment) with Mplayer and with VLC..Totem just doesn't want to play it..
but whats really weird is when I make a screenshot using VLC even though the colours are weird the screen shot comes out normal
i have for pc connect to my hdtv and sometimes it blinks alot.it like someone is changing the channel. it does it the most when i'm watch a video in movie player. i thought it was just movie player but it does it when vlc player too. oh and it does it too with the nvidia drive on way more.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to position subtitles in Totem in a bottom on the black border of the 16:9 movie when showing in the full screen of 4:3 monitor?Or not necessarely in fullscreen, but in a window where black borders are on the top and underneath the actual video frames.
Now always the subtitles covers part of the video on the bottom, which is a shame as there would be empty space underneath also.
The same question for VLC.
Subtitles, would be in the external file.
And I am not looking a solution which would need transencoding the video file.
btw, for GNOME Mplayer, the solution is to put "-vf expand=:-100::2" into Edit/Preferences/Mplayer/Extra_options_to_Mplayer
when I'm traying to watch 720p and 1080p movies, MKV format. The movie is breaking all time, do I need to install any codecs or extansions, or use another application.I tried VLC player, and it is same. Well i had same problem with Ubuntu 10.10 and could't fix it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with streaming divx videos in Firefox 3.6 on openSUSE 11.2. Every time I try to load a divx video Firefox ends up freezing, ultimately leading to dialog box giving me the option to terminate Firefox. No matter what plugin I try to use it's the same problem. I've tried mplayerplug-in, which shows a gray background with the Mplayer logo where the video should be but it keeps buffering, once I press play it freezes. I tried the vlc browser plugin which doesn't seem to even recognize anything and I tried gecko-mplayer, which didn't even show the logo and buffering. I tired removing Firefox and all the plugins and tried installing them again to no avail.

I have installed debian squeeze, and upgraded to latest kernel (by compiling the source). This is to get support of my new Intel DH67CL motherboard.have fantastic display 1920x1080, and debian detected all of the hardware.It plays sound, ..... videos etc. But whenever I try to open an avi file though movie player or vlc the desktop freezes. I could move the mouse pointer, but no reaction to clicks. I can change to terminal by Alt+Ctrl+F1, and then has to reboot. How to troubleshoot this

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe system runs just fine then all of a sudden it "freezes". For example an input box doesn't respond nor can I scroll down the page. But when the system comes out of the freeze 5-15 seconds later, it suddenly does all the input that was used during the freeze. The scroll and letters suddenly show up. I don't loose mouse control and I can do some other system functions but not all of them.

When it freezes, everything is frozen, even the second hand on the analogue clock. One more issue, and I'm not sure if it's related, my stupid screen goes black after 5 minutes of no typing or mouse movement. This never happended when I first installed it. The issue just started within the last 3 weeks. Kpackage Kit is hidden. I was using it to do my automatic updates. Now I just use yum. between the time I first installed Fedora 12 and now, something has happened to my build to cause these issues.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm getting very random full system freezes with F13. The keyboard stops responding completely. Sometimes the mouse (and the mouse only) still works. I those cases, I can log in via ssh, kill kdm, and everything goes back to normal until the next freeze. However, in most cases, I have to do a hard reboot. Sometimes the system goes on for days without a problem, and sometimes it freezes 10 times in a day (It's in one of those days that the bug-screen saved me from flying out the window). I also had this problem on F12. I'm not sure if its video-driver related as both nvidia and nouveau experience this behaviour. In fact, I'm not at all sure what the cause may be.
